“The art of getting by”

Summary: The art of getting by was directed and written by Gavin Wiesen, starring Freddie Highmore (George Zinavoy), Emma Roberts (Sally Howe), Michael Angarano (Dustin Heath).At the beginning of the movie George once said this: “I read this quote once when i was a kid, 'We live alone, we die alone. Everything else is just an illusion.' It used to keep me up at night. We all die alone. So, why I am supposed to spend my life working, sweating, struggling... For an illusion? Because no amount of friends, no girl, no assignments about conjugating the pluperfect or determining the square root of the hypotenuse is gonna help me avoid my fate. I have better things to do with my time" George is a loner in his school he likes to draw and to skipping his classes. We all know the view of george into the word based on his saying at the beginning of the movie, due to not attending his classes, ot making his homework or not listening to his teachers, he was put into an academic probation. One day while george was in his school roof he sees sally smoking, when a teacher appears on the rooftop george pulls up a stick of cigarette and took the fall for sally. The two became friends as the days went by, george meets a young artist (a guest from his class) and george finds out that dustin was inspiring. George brings Sally with him to visit Dustin studio in Brooklyn and it becomes apparent that Dustin finds Sally attractive. Sally invites George to a New Year's Eve party. At the party, sally loses George d and George gets drunk, goes outside, throws up, and falls asleep in an alley. Sally finds him there and takes him to her place. They grow close and George gets more involved in school. One time George follows his stepfather whereabouts and finds out that his stepfather has lost his job. To cut the story short George fell in love with sally, but sally can’t return his love because she is in love with Dustin, and she wants George and her to remain friends, George where never vocal to his feelings towards sally that’s the reason why he lose sally. One day George get into a fight with his stepfather and he suddenly pushed his stepfather and resulted that his stepfather went into the hospital. He walked out from their house to tell sally that he loves her but he found out that Dustin and sally are now a couple. Nothing was working with George he has conflict with his stepfather, he avoids sally, and he may not able to graduate. When suddenly George talks to his mother and he is determined to graduate so he cope up all the homework’s, quizzes that he missed. At the graduation day the principal called george name and announced that he has graduated

1. What life lessons can be learned from the movie?

I would be lying to myself if I told you I didn’t relate from this movie. As a student I also experience the feeling of George on not having a direction in my life because I do believe in “YOLO” you only live once. My strand ABM was my fathers choice for me because I am still undecided last year about my course but now as a grade 12 student I like what I am doing maybe because this is where I am suppose to be. Life has a purpose, what ever was happening I always remember this verse from the bible For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. God always have better plans for us.

2. What part of the story told by the movie was the most powerful? Why? It is when george realizes that he wants to graduate to get his diploma for him to be able to help his mother in making a living. In this part it looks like george has now a direction in his life, because life has a purpose and eventually george finds out his life purpose.

3. Who is your favourite character in the movie? Why? George was my favourite character in the art of getting by simply because he reminded me of myself when the time that I don’t have a course that I would take when I am in college. I am sure that there is some people who has loss their direction in their lives when realizing what is happening in the reality, we just have to understand the purpose of our existence in this world, just like george did in the story.

4. Did anything that happened in the movie remind you of something that has occurred in your own life or that you have seen occur to others? As stated to my answer in why george is my favourite character in the movie it also answers this question. George was my favourite character in the art of getting by simply because he reminded me of myself when the time that I don’t have a course that I would take when I am in college. I am sure that there is some people who has loss their direction in their lives when realizing what is happening in the reality, we just have to understand the purpose of our existence in this world, just like george did in the story.

5. If you had a chance to ask a character in this movie a question, what would it be? My question would be for sally, did they move out to texas with her mother and leaves george?

“Short term 12″

Summary:

Grace Howard (Brie Larson) is a supervisor of Short Term 12, a group home for troubled teenagers. She lives in with her long-term boyfriend and co worker, Mason (John Gallagher, Jr.), but graces is having the difficulty to open up to mason about her experiences or somewhat what grace is thinking. When Grace finds out that she is pregnant, she immediately schedules an appointment for an abortion because she is not yet ready to become a mother and she told Mason about her pregnancy, she didn’t tell mason about her plan on getting an abortion. Grace and mason focused their attention to Marcus because Marcus will turn 18 and they think that Marcus was not yet ready to leave the facility of the short term 12. Jayden Cole (Kaitlyn Dever), a new comer to short term 12, jayden has a history of hurting herself. Jayden distances herself from the other teenagers as she says that she does not intend to stay at the facility for long, and when her father forgots to pick her up on the day of her birthday, she burst out. After her outburst, she sits in the "cool-down room" with Grace, grace shows Jayden her own scars near on her heel from cutting herself. That night, Jayden decided to leaves the facility in the middle of her birthday celebrations and grace followed her and she wasn’t able make jayden return to the facility, Grace follows Jayden to her father's house. After finding the house empty, they return to Short Term 12. When Jayden reads Grace a cryptic story she has written, Grace begins to suspect that Jayden was abused by her father. At a party hosted by Mason's foster parents, Mason proposes to Grace while they are dancing and grace immediately accept it. The following morning, Grace is upset a news that her father is being released from prison, and she refuses to be consoled by Mason. She arrives at Short Term 12 to discover that Jayden has been picked up by her father overnight. She is angry at the decision to send Jayden back to her father, but her boss maintains that Jayden denied that she was abused by him. Later that day, Grace finds that Marcus has attempted to commit suicide after the death of his fish. While waiting at the hospital as Marcus is being treated, Grace breaks down and Mason becomes upset to grace for refusing to talk to him about how she feels; instead, she tells mason that she doesn’t want to marry him anymore and she is planning to have anabortion. Upset, she goes to Jayden's father's house and enter through the door where they both enter with jayden, grace pick up a bat and she intends to injure the father of jayden while he is sleeping, but she was interrupted by Jayden saying what is she doing, so jayden suggests that they smash his car instead. Grace opens up to Jayden about being sexually abused by her own father, and after Jayden shows Grace bruises from where her father hit her they return together to Short Term 12, where Jayden reports her father for physical abuse. Grace goes home to apologize to Mason, who tells her that Marcus will recover. Months have passed, Grace starts seeing a therapist and she is shown viewing a sonogram of their baby with Mason. Mason tells the rest of the staff about running into Marcus, who is doing well and has a girlfriend. While they are talking Sammy (Alex Calloway) started running with an American flag and they was able to catch him.

1. What life lessons can be learned from the movie?

This movie short term 12 has really taught me on how people care for other people, helping others to cope up from their sickness and how passionate grace is in her job. In this generation there are still people who are willing to help our fellows even if it is out of the way of their work, helping is what we can do the best we can always help in small ways. In the movie grace helped Marcus and jayden for them to overcome their issues in life, there are still people who are willing to listen about your rants in your life and will always there to give us some advices that we need. There are still people that will always care for us no matter what happen, our parents is the best example of the people who would always care for us. Lastly is how passionate and dedicated a person can be in doing their job. Let us face the reality there are people who are not passionate in their job maybe because it wasn’t their cup of tea but there are still some people who learn to love their job even though it wasn’t their first choice because they learn to adapt. Being passionate in your work makes the work easier to look because we love what we are doing if we are passionate, there would be no reason for us not to finish our job because we love what we are doing and we are passionate and dedicated

2. What part of the story told by the movie was the most powerful? Why?

It is when grace realizes that she should open up to mason regarding her past, because mason has been with her with many years and waiting her to open up. It is hard to find a person who are willing to wait for you for a long time in this world, and grace was lucky that mason has not given up on her and still wait her to open up to him.

3. Who is your favorite character in the movie? Why?

Mason was my favorite character in short term 12, for this simple reason, people come and go to our lives, but mason decided to wait for grace to open up to him, it was rare to find a person who will not give up to you or who will wait for you, even though it takes a long time.

4. Did anything that happened in the movie remind you of something that has occurred in your own life or that you have seen occur to others?

There is no particular scenario in the movie that reminds me of something that has occurred in my life or neither I have seen happen to others life.

5. If you had a chance to ask a character in this movie a question, what would it be?

My question would be for mason, how did he wait grace to open up to him, does he consider on giving up?

“Whiplash”

Summary:

This movie is about a first year jazz student of Shaffer Conservatory in New York name Andrew Neiman (Miles Teller), Andrew began playing drums at a young age and he aspires to become like a famous drummer like Buddy Rich. While Andrew was practicing at a room Terence Fletcher (J.K. Simmons) discovers Andrew and invite him into his studio band as the alternate drummer for the core drummer which is Carl Tanner. Terrence Fletcher is strict towards his student he insulted them or slap them whenever they got the wrong tempo. When the band rehearses a piece whiplash Andrew struggles from keeping the tempo, fletcher threw a chair towards Andrew luckily Andrew was able to duck down and Terence came toward Andrew and he continuously slap Andrew until he got the right tempo, he even question Andrew if he was dragging or rushing. During jazz competition Carl give his music sheet to Andrew to hold, while Andrew was buying drink from a vendo machine his place the music sheet in a bench and when carl ask Andrew where is the music sheet he points at the bench. Since carl cannot play without the music sheet Andrew tells fletcher that he could perform “whiplash” without the music sheet. After the successful performance, Terence fletcher promoted Andrew to core drummer. Until Terence take on Ryan Connolly the core drummer of the previous class of Andrew. Andrew believes that ryan is less adept drummer and Andrew was very angry when Terence promotes ryan to be the core drummer. It seems like Andrew go back to square one he is again an alternate drummer. Andrew was determined to impress Terence for him to be able to become the core drummer again. Andrew practices until his hands bleed and he will put some band aid to it or he would soak his hands into an bucket of an ice, he even breaks up with his new girlfriend Nicole because he believe that Nicole would be a hindrance for him to obtain as a core drummer in Terence class. He even endures a difficult try out session at 2 a.m. with ryan and carl, in which Terence is very strict in them he screams to them, they were all soak with their own perspiration. Until Andrew was able to earn his spot again as a core drummer his hands even bleed when playing the drums during the try out session. On the way to another competition, there is a problem in the bus Andrew was riding , he rents a car but arrives late because he realized that he had left his drumsticks at the rental office of the car. While driving on his way he got into an accident but he still runs back to the theatre and he arrives on the stage bloody and injured. When he struggles to play one of the piece due to his injuries Terence approach him and tells Andrew that he was done. Andrew attacks Terence in front of the audience and he is dismissed from the school.Jim Neiman (Paul Reiser), Andrew’s father, his father request him to meet the lawyer representing the parents of Sean Casey. Sean Casey is a former student of Terence who committed suicide for having suffered from anxiety and depression during and after his time as Terence student. The parents of Sean Casey want to prevent Terence from teaching again. Andrew agrees to testify against Terence and Terence is fired. Andrew has stopped drumming and he is working in a restaurant while he is applying to different colleges. While walking he saw a board in which there is a name of Terence performing. After the performance they talk and Terence invites Andrew to drink with him. He explained to Andrew why he is like that it is because he pushed his student beyond the expected so his students can achieve success. Andrew accepts the invitation of Terence to replace the current drummer in the new band of Terence at the upcoming JVC jazz festival, he even invited Nicole to watch his performance in hoping that they could start all over again but to his dismay Nicole was in a new relationship. At the stage before the performance start, Terence tells Andrew that he knows that Andrew testified against him and Terence leads the band in a new piece which Andrew does not know, he struggles to get the right tempo and that serves as the revenge of Terence to Andrew. After the piece Andrew leave the stage humiliated and he see his father at the backstage, however instead of going home, he returns to the stage and started playing caravan and he does not follow Terence instead he cues the band. As the piece end and the lights go down, Andrew continues to play his drums or his own solo. Terence was taken aback because of the performance of Andrew but suddenly he begins to guide Andrew. As the solo of Andrew finish they both share smiles as Terence cues the band for the finale.

1. What life lesson can be learned from the story?

There are 3 life lesson that I have learned from the movie and this are parents are parents are irreplaceable, following your dream no matter what happen and the most important life lesson is never give up in something you really want. Parents are irreplaceable, no matter what their child is doing, pursuing they are always behind our back supporting us for the dreams and goals that we wish to achieve for the better life. They serve us our inspiration in times of we are having a rough start or bad circumstances that happen along the way. Without our parents we would not be here and we should be thankful for they brought us here in this world. No material things can ever replace our parents in our life because their value is much more than the material things that can give us. Following our dreams no matter what happen, along the way when we are reaching for our dreams we do encounter some difficulties in our path, it can be either some distractions or some struggles. We must always remember the reason why we started reaching for our dreams because if we do not have some particular reasons for dreaming, that dream would be useless because we will not be passionate for reaching that certain dream. Anyone has a right to have a dream because we are entitle to it. Dreaming is one way of achieving your goals in life. Lastly never give up I always remember this sayings: never give up, today is hard, tomorrow will be worse, but the day after tomorrow will be sunshine and never give up on something you really want, it’s difficult to wait but it is more difficult to regret. I had experience in giving up what I want and I do regret it and that was a lesson learned from me. If you get tired learn to rest and not to quit.

2. What part of the story told by the movie was the most powerful? Why?

The most striking part in the movie was on the last performance of Andrew when he manage to do the hardest beats without stopping. At first he was shocked because of what Terence told him that he knows that Andrew was on the people who testifies about the strictness of Terrence during their rehearsal that become the reason why Terence can’t teach anymore. He was humiliated at first because he doesn’t know the first song that they are playing and that made him walk out from the stage and Andrew wants to show Terrence and the whole world that he could be like Buddy Rich. That he can do it because it is his dream that depend on the performance.

3. Who is your favorite character in the movie? Why?

Andrew was my favorite character, he is hardworking and does not easily give up on his dream, even though there are circumstances that pushed him, you could know the reason why Andrew was my favorite character through reading my answers to the previous questions.

4. Did anything that happened in the movie remind you of something that has occurred in your own life or that you have seen occur to others?

My parents motivate me in my studies, not in the kind of you can do it instead they are comparing me to my cousins and that push me too study well to the best way that I can. I know that my parents were motivating me to the other way around. All I want is to prove something to my parents that I could somehow meet their expectations that they have for me because they believe in me that I could make it.

5. If you had a chance to ask a character in this movie a question, what would it be?

My question would be for Terence: why do he motivate his student in the way with physical and emotional hurting?

“My all time favorite application

My all-time favorite application in my phone… WATTPAD. Wattpad is a free online storytelling community where users post written works such as articles, stories, fan fiction, and poems, either through the website or the mobile application. Before I have my touch screen cell phone, I usually buy books from bookstore and the books cost 195-200+, I do have tons of books in my home. I could just easily download a story through the help of wifi, I have saved my money instead in buying novels , I just download it with this app, this application would never be deleted in my phone never. This is where I do read stories written by my fellow Filipinos or other nationality that has an interesting stories. This app updates me whenever there is a new update towards the ongoing story that I am reading and the best part would be I could read the stories even though I was offline or when I am not home, it does not require internet as long as we have downloaded it. This is one of my pass time whenever I am bored I eventually read. This app allows me to follow the authors and I could comment regarding in the story in voicing out my feelings regarding to the chapter that I had read. I could also write a story using this application, I do try writing a story at first it was fun until I ran out of ideas and I forgot the password in my account, but for now I like to read stories that has an interesting twist and for me to gather ideas if ever I am writing a story in the future.

“A start of something new”

Hi everyone! I’m Coleen Z. Diaz and I just recently created my tumblr account a week ago. This is a requirement in one of my subject Empowerment Technologies, though this is my first time posting a blog because I do not post much on social media, I just like to browse my newsfeed on my other social media account, I do have Facebook, yahoo. My social media is used for communicating or it is a must for a teenager nowadays, in Facebook you could see what is trending etc. Anywhere I am not here to promote Facebook I am here to explore and discover my tumblr account. Currently I am 17 years old going 18 this 11/02/2017, yes you have read it right my birthday falls in ALL SOULS DAY, for the past 17 years I never celebrated my birthday with my classmates on the day of my birthday it was always move when I am still in grade school, When I am in high school still the same I do celebrate with my family during November 2, I have a brother whose 1 year older than me he is currently studying at UNIVERSITY OF SANTO TOMAS in manila, while I’m currently studying my Senior High School grade 12 at St. Paul University Philippines. I am very shy girl but when you do know me better or when I open up to you, you will be able to discover my crazy side. I am just a simple, helpful, kind girl but I can the craziest girl if I am with my friends. I do not have alove life because I do believe that oppa is enough reason for me to keep inspired and do well in my studies. I do not look for love I let love look for me, but it seems like love can’t find me, just kidding. I do believe in perfect plan of God and in the perfect time. I do not have some talent at this moment I can’t draw well, I can’t paint, I can’t sing, I can recall during 1 week before our foundation week on my old school, there is this called glee club because my friend join I also join there is no audition held then but they let us sing a song for them to discover the tone of our voices, I really had a hard time in doing vocalization, it was successful the play is MAMAMIA. Whenever I sing everyone is telling me that I was running out of breath whenever I sing which is not, I can’t dance also but I do try dancing like dancing sway during also in our foundation week in my old school mdc, I can dance but not gracefully, I can dance but still there is stiffness in my body. Moving on I do not have my favourite subject because I excel in all, JUST KIDDING, my favourite colour is black and sky blue, my zodiac sign is Scorpio. I love reading in wattpad like: I love you since 1892, detective files and his into her this are my top 3 favorite story because literally cried in those stories. I would like to recommend this stories I love you since 1892 by undeniablygorgeous, detective files by shinichilaaabs ang He’s ino her by maxinejiji. Wattpad makes me go out from reality and go in to their world. I love wattpad to the point when there are published books of wattpad I eventually buy even though if I have read it in wattpad I do have 175+ books of wattpads. I love watching Korean dramas when i do have my free time I do not have my top 3 choice because all of the Korean dramas that I had watch captivated my heart so no particular favourites for me in terms of Korean dramas, moving on from what I do for my past time. I am also into sport, though I didn’t look sporty when I am in school I am not into ball games like volleyball, I am into boxing, kick boxing, karate and archery. I started my boxing when I am still in grade 10 until now and I migrated to kick boxing at the same time I do learn karate because whenever I train there would be a particular time set for boxing, kick boxing and karate, normally my training would be 4-5 hours, last summer I do train every day except for weekends now that school has started I do find time for me to be able to attend my training, Archery was new sport for me because I recently tried it and I am planning to continue it every twice a month, this is not yet my complete introduction but it’s getting longer so I’m gonna cut it now and answer some of the questions of my teacher.

Where do I see myself 10 years from now? Was my learning in SPUP vital to where I’m leading to?

10 years from now I would be 27 years old, I could see myself as a successful woman in term of my field I want to become a CPA lawyer, I also see myself settling down with my future family. My learning in SPUP I vital where I’m leading to because they have mold me onbecoming who I am today and they do offer a quality education that all students must have.

Was ABM was the best choice after all?

At this moment I could say ABM was the best choice for me because ever since when ii am a child I wanted to become a tycoon, as time goes by I wanted to become a CPA lawyer someday. Since ABM is offering the course related to where I am leading to in the future then I must say ABM was the best choice after all.

What course will you take up in college?

My first choice is BS accountancy, this would be the first step for me in becoming a CPA lawyer. The Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BS) prepares students for entry into a variety of fields in accountancy, including corporate accounting, accounting information systems, and governmental accounting. After I finished earning my degree in accountancy I would pursue my pre law.

What topic would you like to learn more about this subject?

I would like to learn more about editing pictures and videos. This is the first time that I have edited picture using picture because I do edit some pictures through phone add filters in it. Since nowadays some of the performance task are making movies, videos etc. I would like to take this opportunity to learn more about editing because I am so interested in it?
