Diversity at The Workplace
This blog will discuss the importance of diverse representation in the workplace around the world. Today, in the 21st Century every company worldwide strives to advertise themselves with positive and inclusive messages. Even though, that may be the end goal for each company, not every single business does it effectively without contradicting their corporate values. In Flannery G. Steven’s, Victoria C. Plaut’s and Jeffrey Sanchez-Burkks’s article, they discuss the benefits of diverse representation at the workplace by “increasing overall creativity, productivity and quality”.
Furthermore, an improvement in those three areas can significantly impact the workplace by implementing necessary changes to the company to be able to adhere to various cultural diversities. This statement is also supported in the articles “Diversity and Inclusion in the Workforce” and “How Leaders Can Encourage Representation in the Workplace” in which they state “Diversity in business not only promotes equality among people of all ethnicities, social backgrounds, ages and abilities, but also brings a number of tangible benefits to an organization.” A company’s team is a clear representation of a business’s core values and business ethics. A great team with unique minds will bring positive change to the corporate vision and become all- encompassing towards every culture.
Inclusivity has a strong impact on the diversity at the workplace because in addition to representing the company with many ethnicities, their employee’s excellent performance will depend how welcomed and included they feel being part of the team. In the article “3 requirements for a Diverse and Inclusive Culture” by Ella Washington and Camille Patrick, they state that “A lot of companies consider lifestyles, personality characteristics, perspectives, opinions, family composition, education level or tenure elements of diversity, too.” This supports the argument that a diverse representation in a business is essential but it is also important to consider other aspects of an employee such as their personality, skills and work ethic.
