Better Ana tips
OK so I saw a post on my dash about "Ana tips", but I had some issues with it. Firstly it started off with "if you're truly Ana this will be easy because you're strong!!"
... Like, what? Firstly, an eating disorder is a mental illness. Those come on a spectrum. Stop making people feel like they're "not Ana enough" or not "strong enough", asshole.
Anyway... The tips
AVOID gum. The sweeteners in gum (just like the sweeteners in soda) actually make you feel more hungry, which can lead to binging. I do still drink soda because it still fills your stomach, but gum doesn't. If you go for gum, choose a mint flavour, not something fruity. This can make you feel like you've just brushed your teeth and make you less likely to want food.
Don't permanently cut out foods that you love just because they're "bad". This is such a bad idea I don't even know where to start. It's so much better to just have it from time to time in moderation, or you'll end up miserable and so likely to binge. Love pizza? 1/3 of digiorno thin and crispy garden vegetable pizza without the crust is 180 calories. Love donuts? Half a glazed donut from krispy kreme is 95 calories. Sugar free jello is just 10 calories. Don't cut out foods you love, eat them in moderation and look for low calorie alternatives. I promise this will make your life so much easier, more enjoyable, and easier to maintain without binging.
Weight loss is all about calories in and calories out, or CICO. That's really 99% of weight loss. It doesn't really matter how you space out your meals or the times that you eat - if you're more likely to binge if you fast and only eat between 3 and 6pm - DON'T. It doesn't actually help you to lose weight. Do what works for you and what helps you avoid binging. I ALWAYS eat dinner at 10pm because I can't sleep on an empty stomach, and bad sleep makes you more likely to binge to fuel your exhausted body. If you feel better eating 1 big meal a day instead of lots of small meals, then do that! It depends on the person and as long as you stick to your calorie limits it won't make you gain weight. There is nothing scientifically that suggests having small meals, or one big meal, actually affects your weight loss. So do what works for you.
If you're worried you're going to binge, brush your teeth. Your body has been conditioned to this as a signal that meal time is over.
If you purge, rinse your mouth or use mouthwash, don't brush your teeth. Excessive teeth brushing is really bad for you, and brushing after a purge rubs stomach acid into your teeth, wearing them down.
While rules are good, excessive rules can make it really hard to stick to your diet. Remember that every day is a new day, breaking the rules on one day will not affect your diet. Each day is a fresh start. Forgive yourself. I promise it will be OK.
Don't drink apple cider vinegar. Foods that boost your metabolism are mostly a myth (or need to be consumed in large amounts - e.g you need 5-8 cups of green tea a day to make a noticeable difference to your metabolism) - and apple cider vinegar is DANGEROUS in large quantities. It can damage your teeth, cause digestive issues, and harm your potassium levels which can lead to death. A better alternative is green tea or grapefruit, but even then the effects are minimal so consume them if you like them.
I know I've already mentioned it but this is so common - It's fine to eat before bed if you're sticking to your calorie limit. You won't "store" it more just because you're asleep. This is a myth. As long as you're consuming less than you're burning, it doesn't matter when you eat. We burn on average 63 calories per hour sleeping, so guess what? You'll burn a 500 calorie meal off while you're asleep.
Too much water is bad for you. Don't drink more than 3 litres of water per day. Drink when you're thirsty and to help when you're hungry, but don't force yourself to drink if you're already full of water. You can literally die from drinking too much water.
Not eating enough carbohydrates (as in, sugars, slow like in bread or fast acting like in fruit) can lead to hypoglycaemia. It's really dangerous. You can pass out, and if it gets bad enough your brain won't have enough sugar to operate and your organs can shut down, or your brain can literally forget how to breathe. This can be fatal. Always carry around an emergency sweet thing. You can get things like lucozade supplements or candy or a box of orange juice or something. You don't have to be underweight for this to happen, it just happens if you don't eat enough sugar. Please be especially careful if you're fasting.
RESEARCH: There are so many harmful "tips" out there that are actually just total myths and will just make this harder. If you see Ana tips that you want to incorporate, fact check them first. Especially if they're to do with "super foods" or metabolism or other supposed effects of foods. There is no such thing as negative calorie foods. They don't exist. You don't burn off more than they contain by chewing. Please fact check things first because too many people in this community spread these myths without checking either due to ignorance, lack of research, or simply to get more notes.

Buy physical media. Buy CDs. Buy records. Buy tapes. Buy books. Buy physical artwork or prints. Take photos of yourself and get them developed at a photo processing booth. Write your thoughts down in a journal. Why? Because as this world get more digital, what's physical will slowly but surely disappear. There will be less things you can touch and feel, and more things that you can see and not touch. You can post all the digital pics you want on social media...nothing is assured and those pics and those platforms could be gone in an instant. An album on streaming platforms will never be the same as the original album in your hand with the liner notes, as versions of that album can get removed, and/or replaced with re-recorded material (since the artist doesn't own their masters). Books go out of print. And staring at a jpeg (no matter how much you paid for it *cough cough* NFTs) of an artwork will never be the same as owning the actual artwork or a print of it.
Preserve these things. If not for yourself, then for future generations.
