Roommates
Okay, so you know what school you’re going to. Congrats! That’s a huge deal. Now, sometime soon, the school will give you your roommate’s contact info. Go ahead and reach out to them! The sooner you can connect the better your relationship will be.
Starting out: It’s important that you come off as excited to room with them, even if you aren't. This will help you to build a good starting place that will help you guys communicate well before you even get to school. Here’s a template for your first message:
“Hi! Is this ________ (their name)?”
[Hopefully they say yes]
“Great, my name is _________ (your name) and I think we’re rooming together at _____________ (school name) next year!
Once you’ve got that out of the way, you may want to learn more things about them. You can ask where they’re from, what they like to do, what their major is, if they’re excited for school, if they play any sports, etc. You can also ask for any social media they have, which is a great way to get a snapshot of their life.
As time goes on, there are some other things you might want to ask them. Talking about themes of room and who’s buying what is really important. My first year, my roommate brought the microwave and I brought the fridge, so we didn’t have to spend a ton of money and have doubles. Let the conversation go wherever is comfortable, and have fun getting to know your new roommate!!

Introduction
Hey there everyone! It’s about that time that college acceptances are out and you’ve started getting nervous about what’s to come. That’s okay! That’s normal! The College Playbook is here to help.
This blog is run by me! A single person doing my very best to share my experiences with you. Before we begin, you should know: I am American! Everything on this blog refers to America because that’s what I have experience with and I don’t want to overstep or spread misinformation. The trends, dynamics, etc. all refer to American schools. Everyone is welcome, of course, but I wanted to give a heads up.
Additionally, this blog focuses on the social aspects of college. I’ve seen so many pages on here that are geared towards studying and academics and I didn’t want to take away from that, so I’ve decided to stick to the social stuff. That means that we’ll cover things like roommates, making friends, joining clubs, going to parties, romantic relationships, getting a job, and communicating with faculty. Feel free to AMA or send me posts you want others to see!
I am so excited to start this blog and share all that I’ve learned with you! College will be so much fun, so get ready and enjoy the ride!
DISCLAIMER: This blog doesn’t have any religious or political affiliations and will not push one viewpoint on others. It will deal with drinking, sex, and drugs in order to give an accurate portrayal of the college environment. If you don’t agree, it doesn’t matter! Just skip that post please :)
