US President Donald Trump's new travel ban went into effect on Monday, to far less mobilisation and criticism than the first time around, in 2017.  With a bigger mandate this time, and relatively high approval ratings for his immigration policy, Trump's new travel ban has not just expanded, it's also on far more solid legal footing, immigration lawyers told Middle East Eye.

I think it indicates a very specific sort of chauvinism to engage in open acts of aggression against another nation and immediately follow that with "We got what we wanted and now there can be peace". You'd need to think that your country is so mighty that your victim wouldn't even think of going to war with it, that they'd accept any peace offer no matter how disadvantageous or humiliating. The idea that you can de-escalate a situation through limited violence only makes sense if you think that you're capable of a lot worse and that the target both knows and fears this.
Either that or one thinks of their initial violence as clearly justified, and so makes an offer of de-escalation less because it's likely to be accepted and more so one can take the moral high ground when their victim rightfully retaliates. Either way, the fact Trump and his clique saw it as a good idea to directly attack Iran then immediately announce they wanted peace indicates a pretty distorted view of the US Empire's current degree of material and moral superiority in global geopolitics. It's the sort of action one takes when they are or want to assert themselves as undisputed hegemon; it's a bad idea to act like that when ones hegemony can be successfully disputed. I wonder how much longer until the USA's political leadership collectively realises that they're no longer living in the end of history

The Malaysian aeroplane, MH17 was a passenger flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur that was shot down over eastern Ukraine on 17 July 2014, killing all 298 people on board. The event mobilised Western support for anti-Russian sanctions as Moscow was blamed for having supplied a BUK missile system to the rebels in Donbas. The rebels in Donbas probably downed the aeroplane, although the investigation and framing revealed that the event became a central feature of the West’s propaganda in the Ukraine crisis.
The Malaysian Prime Minister complained about the politically motivated Dutch-led investigation: “We are very unhappy, because from the very beginning it was a political issue on how to accuse Russia of the wrongdoing… Even before they examine, they already said Russia” (Reuters, 2019). The Malaysian Prime Minister chastised the findings of Russian guilt to be “ridiculous” as “there is no proof. Only hearsay” (Pleasance, 2019). The US and EU imposed sanctions against Russia within two weeks of the accident, which creates pressure that the investigation substantiated the predetermined verdict.
Irrespective of the dispute about the evidence, the entire framing of culpability was simplified and narrowed down to identifying the origin of the missile that hit the flight. The question of intention is imperative as nobody suggests that a civilian aircraft was deliberately targeted. The Donbas rebels were defending against attacks by military aircraft from the new authorities in Kiev. Should blame also be assigned to the government that launched an “anti-terrorist operation” against its own population that contested the legitimacy of the unconstitutional coup, and its Western backers who supported the coup and the “anti-terrorist operation”? Should also the airline share some of the blame for flying over a warzone after the International Civil Aviation Organisation advised airlines to avoid the region? The framing of culpability was instead narrowed down to identifying who pulled the trigger and who could have supplied the missile system.
The Cold War provided evidence for comparing the language in media coverage of airline disasters. The media overwhelmingly used the term “murder” to describe the accidental Soviet downing of a South Korean plane in 1983, while in contrast, the US downing of an Iranian plane in 1988 used terms such as “technical glitch” (Entman, 2004). Following the MH17 incident, the media referred to the rebels as “pro-Russian separatists” and “Russian-backed rebels” to imply Russian guilt. Newspapers like the Sun merely printed “Putin’s missile” on their front cover. The framing of MH17 was exploited with atrocity propaganda by the US and its allies to portray Russia as ruthless and barbarous (Boyd-Barrett, 2018).

“why did my boobs stop feeling sore? :(“ because my mom just injected me with air last time. she’s a nurse. how. at least i figured out how to do it myself but omfg that’s a week no E for literally no reason except my mom said she’d help and did the opposite and idk if it was on purpose or because of incompetence. i tried telling her it looked like just air in there, that the actual liquid is slightly yellowish. but i used a bigger needle to pull out the E and it actually looked right this time like there was actual liquid in there 🙃

I don’t understand why so many people have stopped supporting Palestine...
Right now, we are sleeping in the streets just to reach American aid. Our lives are in serious danger, surrounded by tanks, all for a bag of flour or some lentils to feed our families.
Gaza has turned into a dark and desperate place because of hunger and the lack of basic necessities. The situation we are living through is beyond difficult.

The motivations driving Libya to its crucial decision on the nuclear program involved a complex evolution of a cost-benefit analysis incorporating foreign, security, and domestic factors, culminating in a growing sense within the leadership that nuclear weapons were not useful in promoting the country's military and political objectives. And, in particular, the nuclear program was seen as a major contributor to Libya's on-going international isolation. The country's former Foreign Minister, Abd al-Rahman Shalgam, for his part, claims that he had advised Qaddafi in 2000 that the nuclear program would cause Libya problems. However, according to Shalgam, the catalyst for Qaddafi's ultimate decision to relinquish his country's nuclear program was a reported message in 2001 from President George W. Bush in response to Libyan feelers for improved relations - communicated through Algeria's President Abdelaziz Bouteflika - that “either you get rid of your weapons of mass destruction or he will personally destroy them and destroy everything with no discussion.” Initially, many touted the Libyan experience as a model for halting nuclear programs in other countries, in particular North Korea and Iran. For example, in a 2004 interview, Paula DeSutter, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Verification and Compliance noted hopefully that “we want to have lessons learned from this because we want Libya to be a model for other countries.” Likewise, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell suggested that Syria follow Libya's example with its own weapons of mass destruction (WMD) program. At a Congressional hearing on North Korea's nuclear program. Congressman Tom Lantos (D-CA) was optimistic that “with creative diplomacy by all parties and the strategic decision by Pyongyang to follow the Libyan model, which I am convinced is the only viable formula, I am confident that the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula is an achievable goal.” United Kingdom's Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, also hoped for the application of the diplomatic route used in Libya to the case with Iran. Qaddafi, in fact, claimed that the United States and the Europeans had asked him on more than one occasion to talk to Iran and North Korea in order to convince them not to pursue nuclear weapons.

Don't ignore my story
"My family lived a simple, stable life, filled with hope and hard work. Father Youssef worked every day to provide for his family, his wife, and his three children. They owned a small house that provided them with security and warmth, and the children went to school, carrying their dreams of a better future.
But, in a tragic moment, war came and destroyed everything. Youssef and his family lost their entire home, leaving only ruins that held their painful memories. Youssef's source of livelihood was gone, and his children were deprived of education, their most basic right. Now, the family lives in poverty, facing a severe shortage of basic necessities such as food, shelter, and medicine.
Despite these difficult circumstances, Youssef has not lost hope. He believes that goodness still exists in people's hearts, and that your support can make a huge difference in their lives. My family desperately needs your help to secure treatment for the children, provide safe shelter, and send them back to school.
Every donation, no matter how small, will serve as a ray of hope. Lighting the path for the Youssef family to a better future.
Thank you to everyone who is helping support this family as they struggle to rebuild their lives.

We are starving in Gaza.
There’s no flour, no food—only hunger, fear, and silence. My family sleep with empty stomachs. I wake up every day praying for a miracle: just bread, just safety, just a little kindness from the outside world.
I never imagined I’d have to beg, but today I am. Please, if you see this, don’t ignore it. If you can help us with even the smallest amount, it can mean food on our table or medicine for my loved ones.
