Frightening news from Sudan. The Rapid Support Forces is continuing its genocidal campaign in the Darfur region. They seem to be gearing up for an assault on El Fasher, and currently have the city under siege. This is the largest city in Darfur, and more than 500,000 displaced people from around Sudan are currently taking refuge there. If the RSF is able to carry out an offensive, it would bring starvation, killings, and rape on a massive scale. Human rights activists in Sudan are calling on the international community to urgently intervene.

Ahmad Abdel Rahman says if bakeries had not re-opened their doors, many Palestinians would have been on the verge of losing their families to hunger. “We lived through difficult days, and no one looked at us. We were dying every day from starvation, from bombing, and from running behind the aid parachutes that the planes dropped over us. Aid was dropped from the aircraft into the sea,” he explained. “If we wanted to get food for our families, we had to go to the mouth of death, to the sea, to pick up the aid that fell there.”

I used to tell them that I was going out to bring them food, but I would go to the house of one of my brothers and spend hours there until I was sure that my wife was able to force the children to go to sleep hungry and when they slept, my wife would send for me to come home. In the ruins of what had been Nasser hospital, the biggest in southern Gaza, Reuters saw emergency workers in white hazmat suits digging corpses out of the ground with hand tools and a digger truck. The emergency services said 73 more bodies had been found at the site in the past day, raising the number found over the week to 283.

Gaza authorities say the bodies recovered so far are from just one of at least three mass graves they have found at the site. "We expect to find another 200 bodies at the same mass grave in the coming two days before we will begin working at the two other cemeteries," Ismail Al-Thawabta, director of the Hamas-run government media office, told Reuters. He accused Israel of carrying out "executions" at the hospital and covering up the crimes by burying bodies with a bulldozer. Israel strongly denies having carried out executions.
