The populist model theory suggests that social groups follow certain groups where they feel their personal fashion sense sits best. This consists of groups of people young and old, either creating new garments from a creative aspect or simply be inspired from what they see in the media/ high street.

We tend to move into a social group that is similar to our interests and style and that then defines our own personal identity. It places people into a specific era that may fit their chosen style or have similar personality traits as themselves.

With having different styles of clothing were able to notice the difference of an individual or notice a person’s style, for example, some people may dress in a certain way to stand out and become more noticeable as they decide to not follow the common trend or simply because they enjoy wearing what makes them comfortable.
For example if we didn’t put ourselves into a certain ‘social group’ where our fashion sense sits, then everybody would just look the same.

Punks for example were a popular fashion trend that rebelled, their sense of style was unique and strange, but it has certainly lived on forever.

Every idea/ trend begins somewhere for example, tattoos were once a unique characteristic to have, that soon grown as people begin copying each other, this necessarily isn’t a bad thing because of all the benefits it brings, and it creates new and exciting ideas. On the other hand, the majority of society probably feel the need to consider their outfit choices because of their responsibilities. For example Instagram bloggers have to upload images of their outfits on a daily basis for the whole world to see and have access too, this could have a massive impact on their outfit choice and how they are perceived.
Following on from this we also dress for other people as well as ourselves, we dress to be accepted, as discovered from the well-known saying “dress to impress”. Most woman wouldn’t’ dream of wearing the same outfit twice because they’ve already been seen in it and the media has an impact on this.

Some may argue that without the media involved would we see the most of fashion catwalks and our favourite celebrity styles?
Whether we may be copying fashion trends or creating our own, we wouldn’t be able to re create fashion and everyone would all have the same personality.
Overall popular culture and different types of social groups make the fashion world move around, if we didn’t have social media and interesting fashion bloggers and inspirations, showing us their outfits on the daily then new and unique ideas wouldn’t be born, so we copy in a way that creates brand new ideas forcing them to grow and expand. Some may disagree with the different aspects of how we style ourselves differently, but this is how we become our own individual. It’s a continuous cycle in the design world, that will considerably change throughout but without certain aspects we would be lost without them.

Nathan's Hilfiger Top.
Nathan's 90's vintage top was bought at a vintage shop in Manchester City Centre, and paid £10 but thinks it was originally £50. Nathan purchased his top on the 24/1/18. His boyfriend pointed the top out and suggested that it would suite him. He bought it because it was cheaper than retail price and is personally interested in vintage clothing. The top was in good condition. Didn't look that old, but had an older feel to it. The top is a rugby polo style, which tends to be in fashion lately in all high street shops. Look's better than some newer garments that are sold in retail.

Although his designs are simple they include a sophisticated infusion of bright colours such as orange and you can immediately tell that they are his own as no other designer works with such warm prints as Emilio himself creates.

Emilio’s designs are very simple but they include a lot of bright colours as he tends to place what looks like 90′s clothing on the runway as most include bright energetic bold pastel colours such as orange, blues, reds yellows etc. Some designs include shapes and geometric patterns either covering the garment or in specific areas.
