July 23 is "Gorgeous Grandma Day" (that's her over the bed, looking very much not amused to be referred to so flippantly), inspiring the Weekly Window to share photos of windows from around her house. Now, when are you coming to visit...?

"Where ground is soft most often grows, arise! Arise! Arouse! A rose!" "Peace! Peace! Supplant the doom and the gloom! Turn off what is sour! Turn into a flower and bloom! Bloom! Bloom!" Happy thoughts and summer wishes from the Weekly Window...

Denver's Populus Hotel is inspired by the state's native Aspen trees, resulting in a striking array of windows, with "lids" that shade interior spaces, while also channeling rainwater. An elegant design - although the Weekly Window has its concerns about how easy it might to clean the glass! learn more here: https://www.archdaily.com/1031563/populus-hotel-and-social-hub-studio-gang

The July 7 & 14, 2025 Fiction Issue of the New Yorker magazine features a high-rise window cleaner on its cover, relaxing with a good book. Artist Malika Favre says: “I really admire these brave men and women—I myself am plagued by a fear of heights. I imagine they enjoy the peace and quiet in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city.” Alas, paper and digital books don’t mix very well with soapy water, so reading on the job will have to remain as much a pleasant fiction as the stories within this issue!
Windows and window cleaners often find their way onto the covers of the New Yorker, and as small illustrations within the magazine. These are just a few examples.

June 25 is the International Day of the Seafarer, a holiday established by the UN to "recognize the critical role seafarers play in global trade, security, and the flow of essential goods." It's a timely reminder: remember when the Ever Given blocked the Suez Canal in 2021? (Seabirds and aquatic animals are seafarers too!)

The Weekly Wednesday Window finds itself drifting with the fog on the Grand Canal in Venice... wondering what's going on so late at night, beyond that ornate, warmly-lit window?

'Tis a grey day, and chilly, so sunlight streaming through a variety of windows seems called for.

Alissa Amidon-Carbonaro was kind enough to share her photos of the Parisi Udvar Hotel, in Budapest: a former shopping arcade and bank transformed a decade ago into a hotel featuring a mix of Art Deco, Neo-Gothic, Moorish, and Art Nouveau details. Two glass domes are especially noteworthy: one lined with hundreds of delicate stained glass panels made by Hungarian master Miksa Roth, the other (photo by James D.) constructed of Luxfer glass prism tiles.

April 23 is National Lost Dog Awareness Day: remember to keep your pet's dog tags current, and microchip them in case chasing the squirrels proves too tempting, because we all love the puppers. Photo by Suleyman Suleymanli at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku, Azerbaijan.

West Chester University in Pennsylvania celebrates April 16, 2025 as Banana Day, a pre-finals stress-reliever. While the Weekly Window can't participate in Banana Pong or other activities, we thought we'd get into the spirit by sharing this bright banana-yellow hat. Fittingly, the sign beneath the window reads 'watch your step.' (Photo copyright Joe Bruha) #BananaDay

March 26 is Purple Day, for which we're pleased to share some purple windows from the Beacon Hills neighborhood of Boston. These homes, built in the early 1800's, used glass imported from England. Some of the batches of glass contained too much magnesium oxide, which after prolonged exposure to the sun, took on a now celebrated violet hue. England, too, has it's share of this accidental stained glass, shown here from the inside of the Tower of London. #PurpleDay #EpilepsyAwareness #BeaconHills #PurpleGlass #Purple

'Tis all well and good to admire the windows of a thatched cottage or an ancient castle, but ahead of St Patrick's Day the Irish would like to remind ye they're a proper country, thanks very much. Contemporary design abounds, from the checkerboard of the Marker Hotel, to the striking sloped windows of the Grand Canal Theatre, to the brilliant glass ring of Dublin's sports arena.
