I am sitting around thinking about how Henry mentions multiple times that he lost everything last time he gave up, so now he refuses to. And how by the end of kcd2, he has gained a found family, he is called one of the most valued members of the devil's pack, he has Hans in one way or another - and despite the ambiguity of the future, he isn't alone. He never gave up, and it gained him everything he was fighting for - and not only that, non of what he wanted was glory or righteous. He just wanted his friends, the man he loved, and to not watch anymore people die. He is literally the character of all time, I love him so much.

“Hi there,” Anders heard a low voice drift over his shoulder. It carried in the tropical breeze, reaching his ears like a ship gliding into port.

He nursed a smile and tucked a lock of hair back, burnished gold from the equatorial sun. His sunburn had subsided, screaming red the first two days despite the prudence of factor 50 suncream. It had settled into something acceptable, his shoulders now smattered with a lazy river of freckles.

A familiar silhouette slipped onto the sun lounger adjacent to his, draped in a sandy towel dotted with Mabaris. Anders coyly lifted his gaze over the top of his novel, dog-earing the page in anticipation.

“Hi, handsome,” Anders murmured, his gaze meeting Hawke’s. Those honey-brown eyes shone back at him, glimmering warmly like the sea. Hawke was sun-kissed and glowing, and didn’t even have to shed a layer of skin to get there, unlike Anders.

The beautiful bastard.

“Can I buy you a drink?” Hawke beamed, tilting his head toward Anders’ drained piña colada. It earned a wry chuckle as Anders tossed his book aside and offered Hawke his full attention.

“We’ve been married for three years,” Anders teased, reaching out to thread fingers through those raven-dark locks.

“I told you: you don’t have to ask me anymore.”

Hawke exhaled softly, eyelids fluttering as he nestled into the cradle of Anders’ palm.

“Three years later, and you still make me blush,” he teased, voice low. Anders thumbed his scalp gently, drawing out an imperceptible shudder.

His ring winked in the sun, gold nestled against onyx like a promise.

It was a promise.

Golden. Eternal. True.
