I think there's something beautifully poetic about this new trend of Greek-myth themed musicals.
The Lightning Thief musical, Hadestown, Stray Gods, Epic---all of these stories are being told at least in part through song, echoing the fact that every single myth that we know was originally told through song. We're essentially reprising the tradition thousands of years down the line, and that's honestly beautiful.

Ya know when people told me "when you're finally safe enough that you can leave survival mode and start to let go of and process your c-ptsd/trauma things are probably going to get really, really bad before they slowly start to get better" I thought that was reasonable. I did not understand that by "things are going to get bad" they meant "you're going to find yourself in the worst mental state of your entire life, but dw, that means it's working" and tbh I simply wish someone had been more clear.

I love when singers think maybe their song requires a little prerequisite information so they just cover it real fast so everyone’s on the same page. I love that TLC opens No Scrubs quickly reviewing exactly what a scrub is and when ABBA was like “just in case you didn’t know, famed 19th century militant ruler Napoleon Bonaparte was defeated in the battle of Waterloo. We though perhaps not everyone would know that. Alright, so moving on to my love life, which is similar to that actually,”

People know that the whole "don't portray [harmful action] because viewers might recreate it" thing is a rule for children's shows right? It's supposed to be shit like "don't show peppa pig playing with fire so we don't get sued if a kid watches it and burns their house down." Not like, fanfiction for adults.

the reason it’s so awesome when the bass at a concert replaces your pulse is that it’s the closest you can get to someone breaking open your ribs and squeezing your heart really hard in their fist

marine biology is so scary because it’s such a small field. i was giving a talk on cetaceans and afterward a woman approached me with her husband and she said, “you did very well. [husband’s name] actually pioneered the research and published the first paper on that. We were very impressed by you.”
Which is such a scientific interpretation/public education win I will cherish forever but also for the rest of my life any time I give a talk I will be haunted by the knowledge that the world’s leading expert who literally discovered/invented the topic might be in the room,
which is like, the opposite of what you’re supposed to do for stage fright. In fact I never used to experience stage fright but now I will.

Anyway still on my Candace loving train but can we talk about how in Nerds of a Feather Candace is absolutely humiliated and ashamed to be a fan of Ducky Momo because it's a "kids show"
Tumblr media
To the point where she straight up lied to both Jeremy and Stacy about where she was that day (something we had never seen her do up until that point and then never see her do again)
And then literally as soon as Jeremy found out and reassured her that he didn't think any less of her
Tumblr media
She starts openly talking more about it and her interest in it and the collectibles, to both her friends and her family. And then eventually we get these scenes:

Where Candace's friends actively participate in this thing she enjoys, even if it's not necessarily something they like as much as she does. (Granted I know Vanessa didn't really CHOOSE to be at the movies 😂 but it still counts)
And they never once make fun of her for it - in fact, no one who she cares about in the show EVER teases her about her enjoyment of the character.
That's all just to say I think it's a really cute way to tell viewers that it's okay to like things that aren't "cool," and that actual friends will happily pursue/discuss your interests with you.

Now that Eurovision is over, I want you all, especially the Americans, to take a good hard look at how the voting results turned out when people boycotted the event.
In the UK, the viewing figures were down about 2 million people compared to last year. Up to 2 million people made the conscious decision to not watch and not vote because of Israel's inclusion.
The final results of the public vote, Israel came in first place in the UK and got 12 points. Because the only people watching and voting were people who backed Israel or at least didn’t care one way or another.
This doesn't matter. It's a music contest. The boycott was still the right thing to do because it is just a show at the end of the day, and the viewing figures have more impact than the results.
But it is also a good object lesson to show you what happens if you boycott a vote over something that does matter. Choosing not to vote in, let's say, a presidential election will have similar results.

Did Lady Macbeth successfully utilize "girl power" when she convinced her husband to murder the king thus damning them both to a slow descent into insanity and eventual death?
