Company Pants is closing it's doors, but in it's place, a brand new blog is born.
To get the link to the new blog, all you need to do is like this status, send me an Ask or email me. I'll get back to you with the link right away.
To find out more about why CP is closing, click on the Read More link below.
As many of you have probably noticed and several of you have pointed out to me, Company Pants hasn't had any new updates for well over a month now. There are many little reasons for the delay in new posts (work, vacation, sleep), but one major reason has loomed above everything: I've just lost interest in running this particular blog.
November will mark not only the three year anniversary of my move to Portland, but also what would be the three year anniversary of Company Pants as a blog. In that time, this little site has given me so many opportunities to discuss music, design, movies, books and more with friends in real life, people I've met online as well as several of the artists that I've featured. I've gained more followers and subscribers than I ever could have thought possible and I've appreciated every little bit of love and support they've thrown my way.
So, why close Company Pants?
In truth, I've become somewhat disenchanted with several aspects of the blog itself and with the culture that surrounds it. What started as a way of cataloging the things that I love and find interesting, over time shifted into something that has become hard to contain. In the past few months, I've attempted a few different approaches at recapturing what inspired me to write and post in the first place, but each one fell short of my own unreal expectations.
Because of this, I've decided to start over from the ground up. I'm burning down Company Pants and starting fresh. A new outlook and a new approach. And while I understand that it would be smarter, easier and less work to just remodel Company Pants, start posting regularly again and keep all of my followers, that idea just doesn't excite or challenge me in the same way that starting over from scratch does.
So, why not just post the link to the new blog on here?
I've thought about this a lot in the past couple of weeks, more than I should have probably. The simple truth is, I don't want or expect everyone to follow me to the new blog. I want to reach those people that are willing to take the few extra seconds to like this status or send me a message on Tumblr or through email. This isn't an arrogant thing or an elitist thing. I just want to gather the people that really want this as part of their daily life and then build from there. (Plus, I'll get a kick out of seeing how long it takes a couple of the daily stalkers to find me again, haha. Trust me, I know that it won't take much detective work.)
So, what will the new site be like?
If you like Company Pants, I'm positive that you will absolutely enjoy the new blog. Some of the same features are sticking around, including the ever so popular mixtapes, as well as the time-consuming, feed-clogging year end lists. The new site is essentially a more streamlined, minimal and more direct version of it's predecessor. As usual, most of the focus will be on music, but many other elements of the creative world around us will come into play. Actually, the new site has been up and running for the past few days, filling up with entries in anticipation of your arrival. The first mixtape just went up and is ready to download.
Anyway, I've made this drag on much longer than I planned to. I realize that in the larger scope of the world, that this blog is little more than a silly distraction and its effect on most people's lives is utterly minuscule at best. It's never been close to a massive success, nor has it ever once even attempted to help pay a bill of mine. But it's been my little space on the internet and I've always taken it seriously, even when many others might not. I enjoy sharing the things that I love and those times in which people have expressed their appreciation at something that I've helped introduce them to have given me more joy than I know what to do with.
Thanks for sticking with me this long. I hope that you'll follow me to the next era. Stay in touch.
Love, CP

This one is kind of a weird, hot mess, but it's still...well, just listen, you'll see. Here's to enjoyment and here's to making it through the week in one piece.

SoKo: "Destruction Of The Disgusting Ugly Hate" (directed by Stéphanie Sokolinski)
A disturbing, confusing and yet ultimately gorgeous piece of footage directed by the artist herself. Definitely brings to mind some of the earliest videos done for PJ Harvey in the best possible way.

Song To Get You Through The Goddamn Day #159:
LOL Boys & Heart Streets: "Changes"
Calm, cool and focused, the collaboration between LOL Boys and Heart Streets kicks off with a rolling snare that quickly transitions into a slow, meandering jazz loop that meshes ever so nicely with the Montreal chanteuses' delicate incantations. "Changes" is a slow burn, easy to melt into gem from a supremely talented production duo.

City Of Roses #005:
Onuinu: "Happy Home" (directed by Andrew Sloan)
An extremely creative and fun look into a "day in the life" of Portland's Dorian Duvall including a near Cool Hand Luke level (ok, not really) of consuming hard-boiled eggs. While watching this, I had a real moment of pure terror when I thought that Dorian was going to bite into the ball of tinfoil he had just mashed up.

John Talabot: "Lamento" (directed by Joshua Catalano)
Joshua Catalano's unofficial video for John Talabot's "Lamento" is a fast-paced, pulsing tribute to a song from one of my favorite records of the year thus far. Catalano's excellent use of animation emphasizes constantly changing patterns in the music with equally interesting visual textures.

Song To Get You Through The Goddamn Day #158:
Meursault: “Flittin’”
A couple years back, a day rarely went by when I didn’t feel the overwhelming urge to queue up Meursault’s fantastic “One Day This’ll All Be Fields” from their second record, All Creatures Will Make Merry. And then just as quickly as I had stumbled across their beautiful noise and fallen for them, they slipped my mind. For no reason other than pure laziness at keeping up on my part and the simple fact that the Edinburgh, Scotland based band just didn’t make it to Portland, Oregon that year.
Now, Meursault has returned in a mighty fashion with their first proper studio recorded album, Something For The Weakened, and if “Flittin’” is any indication of the band’s direction, the rest of the album promises to be a spectacularly epic affair.

The Walkmen: "The Love You Love" (directed by Sean Pecknold)
It's gotten to a point where just seeing the name Sean Pecknold attached to a music video implies that you are about to witness something fantastical. With his first video for The Walkmen, Pecknold doesn't only live up to that expectation, he shatters it, quite literally. The first minute and a half of the video features bleak shots of shards of broken ceramics blissfully reforming into complete artifacts along to the sounds of the Heaven interlude, "Jerry Jr.'s Tune". It's an entrancing bit of film that brings to mind the rampant destruction involved in a best forgotten photo project attempted by my best friend and I in high school. A project that in no way turned out as beautiful as Pecknold's video treatment. From there, "The Love You Love" kicks in full steam with enough elegant shades of black and white to make my heart swell. In particular, keep your eyes on the sparklers behind Hamilton Leithauser and the air-licking flames in the hand of the young man at the center of the film towards the end. More stunning work from an absolutely wonderful director. (Read more about the filming of the video here.)

At the time this post is going up, I'll most likely be somewhere along the highway, hopefully blasting these exact songs. Have fun with 'em.
