"UTANG NA LOOB"
In the Philippines, it's a deeply ingrained tradition for Filipinos to have a sense of "utang na loob" – a feeling of indebtedness – towards those who have helped them. This is how we show our gratitude for their support during times of need. Our parents are the prime example of this; we owe them "utang na loob" for our very existence and everything we have achieved. However, many people misunderstand "utang na loob" and it can become toxic, especially for young people. This pressure to repay the debt can become overwhelming, fueled by the mindset of their parents. True "utang na loob" is something you do willingly, without expecting anything in return. It's not an obligation, but rather a genuine expression of gratitude from the heart.
