My name is Andrea Gomez, currently attending California Polytechnic State University of Pomona, pursuing an undergrad in Urban and Regional Planning. Interning as a COMTO CITY Intern at the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) in Chicago has been a great experience so far! Eunice, COMTO Chicago chapter’s president, has been very influential and helpful for my entire internship.

Building positive community relationships is important to HART. Teaching the youth about the benefits of public transit is a great way to do so. Here some kids at the Tampa Bay History Center study transit maps and learn about the routes they would need to take based on where they live and the places they would like to go. We also give them prizes as a learning incentive.

Biography: Isaiah Floyd
My name is Isaiah Floyd. I am a Senior attending the George Mason University. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Global Affairs with an emphasis in Global Inequalities.  I am joining the FTA as a Conference of Minority Transportation Official (COMTO) intern and will be with the FTA’s Office of Research, Demonstration and Innovation and the Office of Procurement.    While interning with the FTA, I will be assisting Mrs. Betty Jackson in managing, monitoring and closing out some of the FTA’s Workforce Development Program of projects.  While in the Office of Procurement, I will assist in data calls for the IG, GAO, FTA Staff, etc.  I will be establishing tours with the several local transit providers (e.g. First Transit, DDOT, Maryland Transit Authority, etc.) for the 5 Washington, DC based COMTO CITY interns.  Finally, I will be organizing a variety of “Shadow” assignments/meetings with various FTA and OST staff to gain an introduction to Transportation and the amount and variety of occupations within the DOT.
I have a host of hobbies and interest to include: tutoring and mentoring for Fairfax County Public Schools, participating in community outreach and youth advocacy activities, coaching basketball, raising awareness, educating the community on human trafficking and entrepreneurship.  I hope to one day join the U.S. Department of State as a consular officer or as a public diplomacy officer.

Hi, my name is Erik Jimenez and I am majoring in Civil Engineering at San Francisco State University. This summer I have the opportunity to work at Acumen Building Enterprise as the CITY intern for the Northern California Chapter of COMTO. Acumen is a project management and transit technology consulting firm in Oakland, CA. Throughout the first month here I have been exposed to many facets of the transportation industry. At the office I've had a chance to assist in developing master schedules for clients. Through various site visits of construction projects, I’ve learned about project planning and quality assurance inspections. I’ve also attended business development meetings hosted by various transit agencies and learned about the business side of the transportation industry. It has been a very interesting internship so far and I look forward to what the coming weeks will bring.

Hello everyone! My name is Madeline Choi and I just finished my second year at the University of California-Berkeley where I study Business Administration. This summer I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve as a COMTO CITY Intern in the Finance & Administration Department for the Orange County Transportation Authority. Through this internship, I have been able to see the key role that finance plays in every transportation industry by working to efficiently allocate funds for transportation capital (i.e. buses) and projects. In the future, I aspire to become a financial analyst for a public transportation agency and climb up the corporate ladder to promote financial sustainability and transportation reliability.
