Rosewood Readathon Day 18

Just a little thing before I begin. PIP has always had the most meaning to me from all of the rwch books. Not because it's necessarily my favourite or anything but it's the book that brought me back to the fandom. Like I completely forgot about UP after reading it and it wasn't until I was coming down from my grandparent's house winter 2018 that I saw the book in the shop and realised it was the sequel to the book I read a year ago. So I read the entire thing on the way home and at the same time I started my art account on Instagram and my Tumblr account so I innocently looked up the rwch tag on both apps and it was one of the most life-changing decisions of my life. PIP got me into the rwch fandom where I've been able to meet some of the most amazing people I'm lucky to call my friends who have been such a constant these past 5 years. So yeah, PIP makes me emmotional because it has alot of sentimental value to me. Anyways, onto the live blogging:

I can't believe Connie dedicated this book to me

Saskia being there for 7 weeks like okay miss girl I see you committing to the bit

I love the sense of dread that comes from the prolouge. Like we hear of the phase 2 and it must be severe enough the Saskia had the one condition that Ani would be protected. But we as the readers have absolutely no idea what it could be

I would love to read more about the culture and traditions of Maradova. Like Connie I know you have them somewhere in your mind give them to me

Jamie convinced something bad will happen again my poor boy

Saskia being under the palace the whole summer must have been such a haunting experience for the girls. Just knowing she was there

Alexander is absolutely tweaking right hearing all this praise about how wonderful his "daughter" is

Aw man I completely forgot there's just a statue of Lottie somewhere. This poor guy must have been raging when the news about Lottie just being a Portman came out. Like you wanted to impress these people so hard and now you just have them a statue of some girl. It's funny

I remember everyone freaking out about learning all their birthdays

Also Lottie getting Jamie a book about his herritage is so cute. She's really trying her best to help him learn about who his is and trying to give him the chnace to be an ordinary boy

The gifting of the necklace is such an intimate scene.

Lottie feeling like she's betraying her own mother is so sad though. The guilt too because the necklace symbolises being welcomed into this family but she's only being welcomed because of her job. It's really bittersweet

last day of Undercover Princess!!

Jamie counting down the minutes he's such a little freak (he's doing his job. I love him so much for it)

I have no words but just know I am making various noises and having a physical reaction reading Ellie and Jamie realising Lottie is in trouble.

Ani knowing their true identities is like, yeah okay whatever. I remember it being a bigger deal when I first read the books but now, it's sorta eh. It's still cool though

Privilege!!!! That's what I've been saying these kids reek so badly of it they don't even realise

aha! I was semi right, I knew it was Ani leaving the notes

okay no i was not semi right i doubted myself constantly lol

them just not calling her is SO funny. Like yeah these two are in the top twenty students in Rosewood, both have assumably gotten intense tutoring throughout their childhood yet just completely overlooked the easy solution of calling her. they are so silly

svobadash being, presumably, Mardovish is such a good hint that the leader of the Leviathan has a greater connection to the country than we initially realised

Ani is making me so sad right now. The betrayal is breaking her

Chapter 53 is one lf the best in the book. I love it so much

The fight scene is so captivating

URGHHHH ANI AND SASKIA MAKE ME SICK!!!

"I was going to come back for you" yeah but you're hatred for the system was stronger than your love for Ani and it ended up being all-consuming and corrupting you

I hate and I love how the King's mother speaks about Lottie like a pawn. Like yes!!! That's what she is!!! You're so evil about it!!!

Lottie not wanting to act like a regular kid, but instead like a perfect little portman makes me sick. Her sense of self is slowing being twisted and manipulated with her role of a Portman

It's the same with Jamie actually, but he's been playing the game far longer and clearly is starting to crack after being exposed to someone like Lottie, who when he met her, was so sure of herself and knew who she was.

Lottie's flaw being her selflessness. Constantly putting others before herself

Ellie's privilege shines through again exclaiming its all punishment for her, when Lottie was the one who got kidnapped and Jamie is, although he claims to like it, getting more training as a punishment

Jamie's speech on page 374 is what I've been saying. He has so much love and admiration for Lottie because she's been able to stay true to herself this entire time

Lottie wearing her mother's crown is making me emotional

"she was determined to find that part of herself again. She couldn't let the dreadful feeling in her stomach win" i think this encapsulates how i feel about growing up

these dancing scenes got me giggling and kicking my feet. feeding me some hefty Lollie and Jottie meals

its only hitting me now that Saskia wore a suit because it would be easier to kidnap Lottie in it

Being in Paris is like a dream, I couldn't imagine being in one of the boujee boutiques to get a custom dress

These shoes are the sexiest things to me. As I've embraced feminity as I've gotten older I can now confirm sexy shoes go HARD

one thing that's really apparent on this reread is how out of pocket most of the rosewood students are. In terms of money I mean. Like Ellie just having a closest filled with previous stoned jewellery and the doesn't care for and offers some to Lottie is sweet, but for Lottie probably three of the necklaces are worth more than any amount of money lottie's had her entire life.

Part three baby!!

They're right, being drunk in the middle of winter by a pool isn't the best idea. Not to mention they're like, 14? 15 maybe.

I know someone else already pointed this out but urgh!!!! The Deer Imagery when describing Jamie. A-MA-ZING

This is like, one of the Jottie scenes. Connie cooked so hard

It's so funny how baby powder is the give away of the Leviathan. Like yeah it's so unassuming because why would baby powder have any malice intents but also??? Babypowder is not a common thing outside families with babies. So it's also like a dead giveaway because out absurd it is.

Like Jamie is just protective and loyal. That's his thing, but actually being in a different sphere outside of Maradova is obviously making him realise how little control or choice he had ever in his life. Arguably he wouldn't even have a life if he hadn't become a Partzian. Then he sees Lottie, who has a whole bright future together, who has so many choices, essentially give them all up to become Ellie's Portman. Sure it was her choice, but that's such a life changing decision to make at 14. Jamie knows this, the Maradova royal family knows this, but Lottie doesn't because she isn't aware of any actual danger she could be in. Like some threatening notes compared to the assumably vicious training Jamie's gone through and all sorts of scenarios he's been warned about is nothing. And Jamie knows this and he wants to protect Lottie from it all despite all his instincts telling him to protect Ellie.

Sorry sometimes I have alot of thoughts.

I love Lottie's delusion with Edmumd, she is just a 14 year old girl and who can blame her.

If I wanna overanalyse it too it could be because her relationship with Edmund is like one of the only things she can control in her life right now, whether she realises it or not. It's also a bit of an escape from the Rosewood and Portman duties. She just wants to dance with a pretty boy okay!

I love "The Vixen and The Delicate Mouse" poem so much. Just the subtle foreshadowing to who William may be and how it's the beginning of Lottie learning about her heritage is just so wonderful.

Why do I actually feel sick reading about him.

Lottie's reaction is so understandable. Firstly, she's just a girl. Secondly, and more importantly, we can assume this is her first significant romantic interaction with someone. She spent the better part of a year studying to get into Rosewood and giving up her social life. Edmund is probably the first ever person to take any obvious interest in her. Plus, we know Lottie is a fairytale fanatic. As she says herself, this is Prince Charming. All her wildest fantasies are coming true and having her own Prince is just the cherry on top.

I despise Edmund though.

She's just a girl okay. I'd also be giggling and kicking my feet in this situation too to be honest.

They're flying back to Rosewood as a soldier, a poet and a king, I mean as the Princess, the Partizan and the Portman. The best trio

They don't know it yet but they aren't best friends, they aren't soulmates, they'll blur that line so much and will become something else entirely. They'll be filled with unconditional love, devotion and protection of one another.

I'm with Jamie on the importance of Lottie learning Marvish, despite it being a dead language and assumably only being used in Maradova. It's their culture, their heritage, it's something so intimate that connects everyone that speaks it and spoke it before. Especially knowing that English is now the main language of Maradova. It connects them to their past. It gives a massive middle finger to the British Empire, because "look at us. We still have our language, you may have colonised us but you can't take this away from us" It's similar to how I feel learning Irish.

Rereading this makes it so obvious how, I'm too sure how to put this but, so intense the Maradova family is. The way they speak of Claude is as if he is the devil himself. Because he didn't submit to the role they wanted him to have, he got completely banished

Poor Lottie, I think I'd rather die than go to an etiquette class with rich snobbish kids

Rosewood Readathon Day 7

The superhearing exchange is a favourite Jottie moment of mine

Heh guys, heh, she's in the company of wolves now, heh, do you, do you get it? heheh

"She had a horrible feeling that she was a chess piece in someone else's game" Lottie Pumpkin, the Marvish Throne's favourite little chess piece.

Hanna's and Ellie's "Don't call me Princess" "Okay Princess" exchange is too cute. But to think, this was probably Ellie's closest female friend until Lottie.

Comparing this scene of the Wolfsons and the first scene of the Wolfsons. Like, the first one was more domestic and casual and this one is more formal and serious. But the family drama cannot help but escape with the bickering between Alexander and his mother.

Diversity Wins! Lottie's deadbeat dad might be Irish! (Curran is an Irish surname meaning hero)

This must be so horrifying and humiliating for Lottie. I don't think she's necessarily ashamed of her past but her going to Rosewood was meant to mean it all being put behind her. Rosewood was meant to be her fresh start where she wouldn't have to think about St. Ives or her passed-away mom. She was going to make herself an equal to the rich and prestigious without them having preconceived notions of her due to her upbringing. Yet here we have the Wolfsons, arguably the top of the top, stripping her down and revealing everything about her. She might not be ashamed of her past, but the revelation that she'll never have this power, this influence must be such a kick me while I'm down moment.

"This is my fault" girl no get that weight of the world off your shoulders

Ellie's mom's introduction here is SO CREEPY. She gives off the impression of a wolf in sheep's clothing. Like so calm and docile but can and will tear you into shreds at any given moment.

"Inconsequential background is most beneficial" is so heartbreaking. They are just casually discussing how to best use her. Like, "well she's done nothing and has nobody so if something where to happen I'm sure it'd be fine"

"unwavering loyalty" is just Jamie in a nutshell

THE LACROSSE SCENE!!!!!!!!!!!

Truth be told when I first read this I thought Lacrosse was a made-up sport. But no, it's just a shitty version of hurling.

Reading this scene I'm like yeah, I get it. Rivals to lovers Ellnastacia goes hard.

I fear I would also get so competitive for Conch if I were there playing sports. Throw back to 2nd-year hockey when several girls confessed they were scared to tackle me whenever we played matches

AU where Ellie and Anastacia are Olympic fencers and have a tense rivalry. Yeah. It'd be like those F1 drivers. Think of the fictional edits everyone.

Here we see at the end of chapter 15 that Lottie has the weight of the world being placed on her shoulders. Guys, please give her a break she is only 14

You can read it as, oh she's trying to protect Lottie from the web of the Wolfsons which Jamie clearly represents here. But we learn a few chapters later that she has been plotting to make Lottie her Portman. So I think it's a better take to say she's being protective of Lottie because she doesn't want Jamie to have Lottie. She's being protective and albeit a bit possessive because Lottie is her friend and the first one she's ever had. So she doesn't want Jamie, representing the Wolfsons here, to take that away from her

Rosewood Readathon Day 5!

Fixing your math grade is like entering a different reality. I have weeks of my life from like january to april 2022 blocked out because i just spent all my time doing maths. (ended up with a H2 though so hehehe go me). So I feel you Lottie

Bimdas anyone?

I remember being 12 and thinking this math equation was the most confusing thing in the world. Now though I feel like I could solve it if I put my mind to it. Or else I'm just gonna give it to my friend who's doing a maths degree and see will it knock his ego down a few pegs

I don't think I've mentioned this before but I love how Lottie is a huge fan of fairytales. She is like me frfr (except I'm a huge fan of Irish/Celtic mythology)

Break in time!!! What a fun little scene. However, it says they got completely soaked going through the river so how did they not get caught in the morning assuming they left a trail of water after them?

Also what a bunch of nerds going to the library on the orientation day. Never forget we are reading about pretigious, rich nepo baby nerds everyone. (I still love them all with my entire heart)
