i miss 2013 style of roleplaying where gif chats were actual chats and not overtly long paras with gifs that take so long to complete that the whole thread feels useless.

there's nothing i trust less in a new group than the admins not having characters prepared. why should i apply for your group when you don't even want to?

i have issues with figuring out exactly what i should do sometimes when determining what the best fc age:muse age ratio should be. when i first started roleplaying, first i'll admit that i was in groups that allowed for some muses that were minor ages and played 16-18 year old high schoolers. i was in my early 20s and struggle still with getting older so at the time i think i was just using that as a way to try and re-live my high school years. but the point is, i remember back then when it became an issue of people using 25+ cw fcs to play teenagers, which of course makes sense people shouldn't have been using paul wesley to play a 17 year old high schooler (shouldn't play minors in general obviously again want to state i know that's wrong now and haven't played a character as a minor in at least 10 years) and eventually it turned to the whole using a +/- rule whether it was +2/-2 or +5/-5 and then it's become a world where gif makers explicitly state they don't support that rule which is fine, but what confuses me is you ask an rph for fc suggestions and give an age range, sometimes they give fcs that are younger than the age range, older i can understand more i guess? i just basically don't know what the best way to determine the ages i should be looking for when i know exactly how old i want my muse to be?

i'm kind of sick of "rphs" who contribute nothing to the rpc but constantly bring drama into the tags. you're not even "helping the community." how does doing nothing rp related count as helping? do you even write? why are you even posting in the tags. we don't want you here.

people only call out cliques/bubbling when they are not involved in the bubble. if they were included in the clique, they wouldnt care. not defending cliques or bubbling but i hate when people act fake woke when it comes to cliques and bubbling.

a lot of you take rp, a hobby, way too seriously. if you don’t like people ooc, don’t interact with them. simple. people try to make communities and people who don’t have lives outside of rp always ruin it. we have lives outside of rp, most of us don’t have time to argue over whether the space is “safe” enough or not because this is, again, a hobby.

i paid a lot for comm's now 2-3 years ago. i've lost track. never got them. the maker is still active too, but i'm tired of asking and being told "i'm so sorry it's coming" so i feel your pain !

my rpc confession is that even though it can be harder to have conversations in a large group, i prefer the vibe of constant chatter over a smaller one where you could go days without a single message.

i miss the old days of having a cbox on the site where i could ask questions to the staff and then leave if i felt like i didn't vibe with the site. having to join a discord just to ask questions because there's no guest friendly board, and then leaving if i change my mind, is exhausting. everyone talks about how they don't want to be perceived, but makes it super hard to not be perceived.

i think some people on tumblr really think the rest of us are stupid. we remember your shitty behavior, and changing your alias doesn't erase it. some of you have dead rps because you aren't a good admin, and a great idea or beautiful aesthetic don't change that. i fully have a list of people i will never join an rp from, and they're the same ones in the tags whining about their rps being dead or dying (but of course, it's not their fault). okay bestie, keep fetishizing fcs, being inactive unless it's with your ship partners, and giving said ship partners special treatment when they too are inactive af all while putting other members on check bc they have fcs you wanna play. that does catch up with you btw.

when i see someone rping content i don’t like i just… move along. except for stuff involving heinous crap with minors or animals, i find it very easy to just not engage. like there are people on here that rp incest through a historical lens which i find revolting as someone who has trauma involving that, but if the rp involves only adults and they’re doing it in a non-fetishy way then i just keep it moving. if not? then i’ll block ‘em and let my mutuals know in case they might get triggered, too. but for some reason with the tumblr community there’s this idea that every single rper needs to adhere to their code of ethics or they deserve to be attacked, even when it poses no immediate threat to anyone else. i don’t agree that fiction is completely removed from reality, but a lot of things are non-issues in the grand scheme specifically when they involve two adults and are being written in closed groups where the regular user wouldn’t just stumble upon it and see something potentially triggering. imo, it’s most important whether or not these things are being written respectfully and with nuance, because it is possible to explore darker/disturbing themes without being exploitative, disrespectful, or predatory.

the constant hp/jkr debate is an example of tumblr’s chronically online culture. believe me, i am as anti-jkr as i can be and have never liked hp enough to seriously engage with any of the media. i wasn’t surprised to find out that some of her nasty, bigoted beliefs towards trans people and minorities seeped into her books. with that being said, no i don’t think hp rps should be completely banned just because the author is a bigot. no, i don’t think we can’t ever use any media from hp in the form of gif sets or other media because literally pirating her stuff and sharing it for free is the exact opposite of supporting her work. a handful of people in a closed rpg playing out wizards zipping around on brooms while using resources from pirated content is not somehow supporting jkr as a person or being actively violent to marginalized people. all admins have to do is alter the bits of the lore that is based on thinly veiled bigotry to be inclusive. i think it’s more effective to go against that demon lady by making your rp highly inclusive with trans folk living their best wizard lives than to just shut down any rp that dares take inspiration from a book series about riding brooms. but the tumblr rpc does any and everything for online brownie points so instead of critical thinking and constructive conversations they shut down anyone that does not immediately agree with a highly censored approach and calls it activism.

i'm afraid writers are chasing each other out of the hobby, and talk blogs are only adding fuel to the fire. i remember talk blogs used to be a place for writers to vent about the craziness in rp, and now they've turned into a hub for witch hunts.

i paid for a commission and i’m regretting it because the creator is taking way too long to finish it with little communication, so i’m starting to worry it was a scam. i want to say something, but i don’t want to be a dick if they’re going thru something. all ik is, i don’t have a problem with people charging for commissions but if you’re going to be taking money from people then you need to be professional and finish things in a timely manner. i think that’s what’s missing in this conversation about charging for gifs/resources. if you expect people to pay you for a service to be completed, then you actually have to complete it in a professional way with consistent communication and realistic delivery estimates. just because this is less formal than other work doesn’t mean you can just skate by on good will alone, and far too many people will throw the same 2-3 excuses at you as to why they’re taking double the time they quoted you on before purchase. content makers want to be paid for their service but don’t want to be treated like, or fulfill the expectations of, a servicer.
