an expert eye || koga & ???
Anyone who had heard anything about Koga knew about his poison-type specialty - that much was obvious. But perhaps secondarily, Koga was known for his ability to craft medicines and antidotes to some of the rarest poisons known to man and Pokemon alike.
On occasion, word would get back to Koga that a trainer had a Pokemon who was in trouble, and when that happened he just knew that they suspected poison was involved. He couldn’t always get out of his Elite duties, but when he could, he tended to lend his services out whenever he could, particularly to younger trainers or vulnerable Pokemon, soft spots he had gained through his training of students and his own old pet Venonat, Mushi.
On this occasion, Koga had made his way from the Plateau to tend to a Pokemon he’d heard about through the grape vine, knocking on the door of the trainer’s home and waiting patiently, a bag of his various antidotes in tow.

forestgreenbpd‌:
And if there was any way to describe Green, it was obvious as shit. So if Koga really was worried about the eerie, eerie silence, he didn’t need to worry about it for very long. Unfortunately for him, this wasn’t just a time where Green would be waltzing up to Koga, throwing an arm around him, talking about their good fucking day.
This situation happened to be much, much more grave.
Koga’s eyes immediately widened when he realised what was going on and moreover who it was happening to. He rushed over to Green’s side, dropping to his knees and immediately doing his best to survey the young man’s injuries. But he paused immediately as Green got his sentence out, eyes widening as he did so.
“Alright, don’t panic - we’ll get her back,” he said, his tone even - though truth be told, it had been a long, long time since he’d ever needed to go in search of a stolen Pokemon. Still, he would get it together for Green - he was honestly like family, and even if Koga had been busy that day, he would have dropped everything to help.
“There’s no use going to search, though, unless you’re alright. What did they do to you?” Koga asked.

mortalshore‌:
Zinnia merely watches as the Whismur toddles behind her legs for cover at the hiss of the Venonat. She just sighs, bending down to collect her valuables sprawled on the ground. She recollects her phone and hisses as she observes a large dent on its right side, which has warped the screen ever so slightly. Balls. She’s only had this phone for a month; was it really impossible for her to keep a phone in mint condition for more than four weeks?
Zinnia takes the flyers.
Tumblr media
❝Crochety. Ri-i-i-ght.❞ She doesn’t mean to, but her voice has a bite.
And it’s at this moment that she takes the opportunity to take a closer look at this man. Now, Zinnia had done her research on a majority of League members, from Gym Leaders to Champions all across the globe. Now, her attention hadn’t been preoccupied with the Indigo League’s elites too much;that honor had been saved for a certain Champion, who hailed from a sister clan of hers, but even Zinnia would be a fool not to recognize Koga.
She exposes her sharp, canine-like smile.                   … … … Wonder if he plays nice?
Tumblr media
❝Eh. Hey, you know what? Don’t worry about it, Mister Elite Man. But you know how you can make it up to me? …You should tell me all you know about the cool Dragon Types in the Fuschia City Safari Zone. S’it true you can find Dratini in there?❞
Koga couldn’t hide the fact that he was a little insulted at the bite in her voice. Mushi was a good, loyal Pokemon, even if he was getting on in years. Still, he didn’t have time to think about it before she was speaking again, this time about information she wanted from him.
He had a small internal conflict here. There was a part of him that wanted to play this cool, and moreover play it as his elite persona suggested he would. He could tell her the answer in vague and dark tones, keeping up a mysterious aura which he had truly built his career on.
On the other hand... sometimes ‘Mister Elite Man’ just couldn’t be bothered.
As far as the spread of the information went, it wasn’t exactly a secret, the things you could find in the Safari Zone. He didn’t see much of an issue with answering her question.
“Well... presumably, if you know me as... Mister Elite Man... you know that dragon types aren’t exactly my speciality. It’s been a while since I’ve perused the zone myself, but yes, that is true. As far as what I know about them... they can be, uh... picky Pokemon, from what I understand.

poisonouskunoichi:
Janine wanted to feel the calm that her father was trying to impart on her but she couldn’t pull herself from the torrent of anxiety, distrust, and anger that threatened to drown her. She knew her father, and she knew that he would make the right choice–just like when he’d chosen to ask her to leave. Just as he would again.
Aya’s expression filled with hurt, but understanding at her brother’s comment. She nodded. “I know…and really, all I want to say is…I’m so sorry, Janine.” She turned back to her niece and met her wide eyed gaze. Even with everything she’d said in their initial meeting, she had never said her chosen name. This was the first time she’d ever used it.
“I have had…many years to reflect on everything that happened. Years of my own making. In that time, I stubbornly and irrationally thought that I could carry the traditions of the Hayashi clan myself. But no matter where I went or what I did…it felt hollow. Empty. Wrong. In the end, I realized that it isn’t the creation of poisons or the controlling of chakra that builds the Hayashi clan…but rather, the people who do it.” She continued to look between the two of them throughout this apology, but soon cemented her gaze on Janine. “I didn’t understand and in many ways I still don’t. But…I can no longer live a life that doesn’t include my family. My clan. My home. So whatever I can do to learn and serve, I want to. I may be your elder, but as the heiress, you are my superior. And you have grown up to be something amazing…I’m sorry I haven’t been able to be here for it. I wish to help you fulfill your destined role…and for me to fill mine. I know I have no right to beg for forgiveness after everything I’ve done but…”
With that, she sunk to her knees and leaned forward, placing her head on the ground. The ultimate sign of apology and giving oneself to the person before them. “Please. This is all I’ve ever known. And all I’ve ever wanted.”
Janine was absolutely floored, staring unblinking at the figure grovelling before her. This…wasn’t what she had been expecting. She didn’t know what to do–what to feel. And as the silence hung, it was becoming clear that she would not, or more likely could not, respond.
Koga stood and listened as intently as he could to Aya’s speech, keeping his own eyes fixed on his sister as she spoke. It wasn’t until she sunk to her knees that Koga realised that he hadn’t been blinking, and he took a moment to turn his gaze away from Aya to his daughter.
It was when he did this that he realised just how young Janine looked in the wake of all this. Even Koga, who wasn’t the most clued-in of dads, could tell that Janine didn’t know what to say here, what to do. And he knew that it was up to him to do something.
‘... Aya, stand up,’ Koga murmured, taking a step to stand between Janine and his sister. ‘Janine was not raised the way that we were,’ he began, ‘and apologies like this mean little. Very little compared to what they mean to us. So there is no point in grovelling to her.’ Koga wasn’t particularly thrilled at speaking for his daughter, and half expected her to butt in with an assertion of her ability to stand up for herself, but when it didn’t come he continued.
‘You’ve done a lot to tell us why you’ve come back. Why this is good for you, which is fine... but what’s the benefit for us? For Janine? You want a part in a family that you spoke incredible ill of, Aya... that you left. How can we be sure your promise is genuine?’ he asked.

Too Quiet || Koga + ???
Koga had been around long enough to know that when it was quiet, that didn’t mean good things. Whether it was from his time as a parent or as a gym leader, he wasn’t sure. But he knew one thing - he hated the quiet, and right now, it was way too quiet.
He decided that, if this was truly the one day where trouble wasn’t finding him, then he’d have to go out and find some. There was, of course, the part of him that wanted to relish in the quiet, to relax - but he knew that if he did that, then he would immediately be interrupted somehow. So it was out and about for Koga - he decided to venture out to the Pokemon Center to see if they were in need of any of his poisons, and if he found trouble on the way? Well, so be it.

 - opinion or value of theirs I disagree with
HMM... idk i am one of these people who just... overlooks elements of a character that i don’t like when i roleplay them (you know this better than ANYONE) but as far as my portrayal, i guess there are a few traditional notions that koga still sticks to (his hesitance in talking to janine about anything ~personal~, his sometimes over-protectiveness) that i personally would hope i wouldn’t do were i a poison dad
♣ - hardest thing to “get right” about playing them
again, i’m a garbage person who just ignores the things in canon that i don’t like about him. i know i definitely struggle with his kind of formal flamboyance that he has in canon - but again, for my koga, that’s kind of an act? so i guess i don’t get it “right” according to canon but i tend to build these strengths and weaknesses into the character portrayal that i write.

definitely his poison-type specialty!! i didn’t know much about pokemon before rping koga, but what i did know definitely didn’t go into anything poison-related. so learning about the poisons and status effects and things like that have been really interesting and neat.

poisonouskunoichi:
Although tense, Janine did feel some sense of relief when her father finally appeared in the doorway of the gym. Even more so when he mirrored her defensive stance. His stern glare was one that she never wanted to be on the other side of, so there was definitely a twinge of satisfaction seeing it pointed towards Aya. Between the two of them, they’d be able to dispatch of her easily enough, she presumed.
The green haired woman looked over her brother with a cocked eyebrow, her expression nor her posture betraying any sign of danger or attack. Her eyes flickered over to Janine, looking them both over before she sighed. “Well…I suppose I deserve this treatment, after our last encounter. But I haven’t come here to fight either of you, nor do I wish to argue. I simply want to talk…” Her head turned back to Koga, looking at him with a deep sense of sadness and shame. “And…apologize.”
Janine’s lips twitched into a frown at that. Yeah, she’d said that bullshit to her while they were waiting for Koga to show up. She’d said a lot of things, most of which the young kunoichi found very difficult to believe. Still, she kept her jaw tight and her mouth shut as she watched her father, trying to gauge his reaction to the situation.
Even Koga faltered slightly at the expression that his sister gave. He and his sister had been brought up around a culture of deep respect, especially in the face of earnest. And initially... she certainly seemed earnest.
But Koga knew better, and his defensive stance didn’t ease off just yet.
He first looked to Janine, trying to imbue her with a sense of calm - he had this under control, he wasn’t about to relent to Aya this quickly. He tried to tell her to relax with only his gaze, before folding his arms and looking back to Aya.
‘You’re right, you do,’ he started, blinking slowly. He shook his head eventually despite his sorrowful expression. ‘And the last time you were here, you said a lot of things which are beyond apologies. But nonetheless... if there are any apologies to be made, they need not be made to me.’

mortalshore:
She isn’t sure what brings her to Kanto – although, Zinnia’s not certain what brings her anywhere anymore. Years had passed since her encounter at the Sky Tower, since the fated meteor had been intercepted and destroyed. To reach that point, Zinnia had dedicated her entire life –
And now, here she is. Walking along a path in a foreign region with nothing to lose, nothing to prove.
Zinnia rifles through her bag once more, locating a gaudy flyer advertising new additions to the Safari Zone. … there were Dratinis in the Safari Zone, weren’t there?                      …. Maybe? Hard to recall.                         It’s something to consider when she arrives in Fuschia.
Her eyes are glued to the flyer when the Whismur toddling by her side utters out a low cry. Zinnia glances up just in time to come face to face with an older man. The flyer spills from her hands, as well as several of the contents from her open bag: Pokeballs, Pokedex, phone, TM case…
Her first response is to snap.
Tumblr media
❝ Hey gramps – watch it! ❞
‘Gramps?’ was the first word to incredulously make its way out of Koga’s mouth, and he stood there for a moment. The chirp from the Venonat beside him seemed to jolt him into realisation, and he leant down to help and collect up the flyers first, as those seemed the most likely to fly away.
‘Sorry, sorry, I didn’t mean - I’m -’ he shook his head, offering up a stack of slightly dirty and bent flyers. ‘I should have been paying more attention to where I was going.’ The Venonat, who to anyone unsuspecting may have thought was the owner of this man and not the other way around, gave an affirmative wheeze before waddling over to the Whismur with a hesitant curiosity and what sounded like a low growl.
‘Mushi, what are you -’ Koga sighed and shook his head, ‘Sorry, I promise Mushi isn’t aggressive, just... just crochety.’

‘dad u need to come to the gym right now.’
Though Koga would never admit it, he was getting to the age where he was starting to treasure a great middle-of-the-day nap. He awoke with a start from the one that he had been partaking in, glancing at his buzzing phone and furrowing his brow. Who could possibly be trying to get into contact with him? Everyone knew he never used his phone.
When he saw that it was Janine, he sat up a little straighter in the armchair he’d fallen asleep in. He rubbed quickly at his eyes to make sure he wasn’t seeing things before replying with an ‘are you okay?’ text. It took what seemed like mere seconds for Janine to respond.
‘just come now. i need you.’
Koga had never departed for the Fuchsia Gym faster.
Koga’s eyes locked onto Janine as soon as he made it to the gym, not even noticing the figure in front of her at first. Just as he opened his mouth to call out for her, he saw the smallest movement in Janine’s eyes towards the figure. He stopped immediately to look where his daughter had indicated, and it didn’t take him any time to recognise her.
Koga adopted a defensive stance not dissimilar from Janine’s own, his expression only barely held back from complete and utter shock. He looked right at Aya’s face, looking past her to check on Janine briefly before frowning back at his estranged sister. He rarely looked this stern, not even during battled. With barely a movement, he almost hissed.
“... What... do you think you’re doing here, Aya?”
Family Reunions || Koga&Janine
@confoundingshinobi
In the modern day, “gym calls” had become something of a new practice. The gym leaders led busy lives, and there was no guarantee that they would just be at the gym at any given time of the day. So instead of just showing up, challengers were expected to reach out to the leaders ahead of time to schedule a battle. Leaders would leave up their contact information however they so chose (or did not choose, in some cases. Tough luck, kids.)–Janine had left her own up on social media.
So far, the system had been something of a…mess. People didn’t keep up with their appointments, trolls would abuse the system to send in fake battle times, and many trainers, especially older ones, didn’t keep up with the times and would just show up whenever they felt like it. Some days were spent doing nonstop, ill-planned battling while others were just sitting around waiting for people who were never going to show up. It was…both frustratingly busy and somehow not busy at all. She could hardly keep up with training her students and her Pokemon in between it all, let alone keeping up the gym and the estate.
But for once–for once–it seemed she had a day with nothing planned. No battles being scheduled, her students off to school for the day, just her and her Pokemon with the entire gym to themselves.
Or, so she thought.

⌚✎ ❧ !!
⌚ - Does your muse worry about time?
All the time (pardon the pun). It’s something that he started worrying about as soon as he became a father - so it’s been most of his life at this point. When the little baby who could do nothing but sleep, eat and pee became a baby who could walk and talk, then a baby who was very much not a baby anymore, Koga started worrying about time. He is not so much worried about not having enough time, but the passing of it.
✎ - Can your muse draw? How well?
Absolutely not. He’s awful at drawing. He also has terrible handwriting. He’s a disaster.
❧ - What is your muse’s favorite kind of food?

❦ - What is your muse’s favorite fruit?
Koga likes stone fruits - the fact that their stones are toxic in high quantities is not the reason, though, he does just genuinely enjoy them. His specific favourite is the apricot.

❧ - What is your muse’s favorite kind of food?‽ - Something your muse has problems understanding☺ - Something that makes your muse happy
❧ - What is your muse’s favorite kind of food?
Koga is a big soup guy. Soup is easy and quick to make, plus there are so many different flavours and kinds of it so he rarely gets bored with it.
‽ - Something your muse has problems understanding
Most people presume that because Koga is so close to his daughter that he must understand the nuances of raising a teenager/young adult. He absolutely Does Not. He’s the first person to defend Janine and has always loved her unconditionally, but god please do not ask him about teenage urges or hormones or -- just don’t. He hides his lack of understanding behind the fact that he was a teenage parent so he shouldn’t speak on these matters, but really, he just doesn’t get it.
☺ - Something that makes your muse happy
Seeing Janine succeed. It’s cheesy and embarrassing but every time she does something new or impressive, it fills Koga with joy. Second to that is spending time with his Pokemon outside of battle. Poison-type trainers and Pokemon alike are susceptible to some of the nastiest types of damage, so Koga likes to make sure he spends plenty of time with his Pokemon outside of battle as well as in it.
