Prompt: Eros was once Icarus, and He and Helios were once in love
Poem: Icarus to his Sun
•🪽❤️☀️•
Icarus flew too close to the sun
With wings made of wax
So the story goes
His foolish endeavor, defied the gods with his acts
But what if we don’t know the whole picture
Perhaps we only saw his demise,
his wings of wax, his fall from grace
In our haste, to hate, we disregard his childish face
Perhaps he knew of the dangers
Perhaps he read every text on flight,
perhaps he calculated the risks
Perhaps he worked tirelessly through the night
Perhaps he stayed staring at a flame
Studying the wax candles on the table, how long each took to melt
Perhaps he sailed for as long as one could sail
Documenting the length of the sea, warmed by a fire only he felt
But you may ask, why did he take on this task with such fervor?
Why would he fly to the sun, knowing it would only burn?
Why did he do all that, he must’ve known of the danger?
Why did he keep the sun company, even when Zeus’s mood took a turn?
Perhaps we did not look behind him
Perhaps neither did he.
Perhaps he sat on his roof, staring up at the sky
Perhaps he drew the sun, to try to capture its beauty.
Perhaps the sun tried to dissuade his love from his goal
Perhaps he thought their love could only be a shared dream
Their love had them acting like stumbling foal
He tried to reach out but only turned the sea to steam
Perhaps even as his wings of wax bubbled and drooped as they melted, Icarus still reached out to the wisps of a warm embrace
Perhaps as he fell, his eyes were only set on his fiery love in the sky
Perhaps his sun could only watch as his delicate love fell to the sea, his tears burning up far too quick
As his love sank farther than he could reach by chariot flight
Perhaps Icarus accepted his fate as he was swallowed by the seas depth
and as Daedalus’s son,a good back up plan was best
For his plans was to embrace his love in this life
And in the event of his failure
Reunite, in the next
As Eros
God of the heavens
Of flight
Of everlasting love

Little Girl in A Box - ‘Original Poetry’
By: Noa Wren
There is a little girl,
locked away in a box
Her only friend,
in her prison, a Fox
However the fox is sly
It knows how to lie
The girl thinks they are friends, two pieces of a puzzle
Misunderstands the growls erupting from its muzzle
There was a little girl, locked away in a box
Her only friend, in her prison, a fox
Unable to reach out, no one reaching in
Longer that passes, more loneliness settling
But we never answered one question, one that weighs on the little girls mind
Who trapped her there, in a glass prison for no one to find?
No it wasn't a witch or a cruel child who placed her in her box
Why, it was none other than her friend, the fox
The fox locked her ankle with a chain,
The fox watch the girl cry out, in vain
But why, you may cry
Why did the fox trap itself as well in a lie?
Why did it stay without the sky?
You see, it is because they are not two puzzle pieces that are a perfect fit
But rather the same fit, as the fox is the girl, as the girl is it.
