Rimal the palestinian Gazelle

a charity auction item that raised money for Salam Animal Rescue, a shelter under siege in Gaza

Rimal حي الرمال

meaning "sand" or "beaches" is an ancient port city and one of the most prosperous neighborhoods of Gaza. situated between rolling sand dunes to the east, and the beautiful blue waves of the mediterranean sea to the west.

we chose to name the gazelle after the city of Rimal, to commemorate the Palestine Square (also known as Al-Saha or As-Saha) which contained the hospital in which Abdallah (the remaining founder and caretaker at the rescue) was born, as well as another park/community space named after The Unknown Soldier, which contained the hospital in which he was born. these are some of the active, beautiful, bustling community centers and marketplaces he loved growing up. we choose to highlight these places and use their names to keep their memory and legacy alive ❤️
