this will never not hurt

you know he's gone his whole life believing he's the weakest link, a waste of space, a liability. the only one weaker than him all those years was viktor, who wasn't even considered one of them. of the members of the umbrella academy, klaus was always the one with the useless powers. as adults they continued to treat him like this. never taking him seriously, acting like he was always in the way. and then when they found out viktor had powers, more powerful than any of them, that feeling only increased. now he really is the least powerful, the most useless.

until season 3. while everyone else is dealing with the sparrows and the kugelblitz, he's spending time with this new version of his father, who actually seems to care about him, not only more than the man who raised him but than his siblings. finally this version of his dad sees him as more than just a number and wants to help him perfect his abilities. he helps klaus see how powerful he can be, what he's truly capable of. suddenly klaus doesn't feel useless. suddenly he doesn't feel like a waste of space. he feels like he has a purpose, like he's needed.

and then he's betrayed. all of those old feelings are shoved right back at him. all this time he was being used. and when the time came, he wasn't needed anymore. he served one purpose to reginald, which was to get the others to trust him again. now that that's done, klaus isn't needed. all that time spent on his powers was pointless. once again, he's the weakest link. once again, he's a liability.

you can see the pain in his eyes, hearing his father say those words. the heartbreak. the betrayal. all that time spent overcoming his fears, perfecting his abilities, gaining closure from his childhood and relationship with his dad. only to be left for dead in the end, because he's more trouble than he's worth.

single dad au starter for @conjuredead​

moving back home hadn’t been the mission diego had quite been looking for but he’d been the best suited for the job and he knew it. he knew the city, some of the people and he knew that half his family still lived there. if there was potential for something to happen then….he knew it was up to him to protect him. still, it’s uncanny being back after so long. The last time he was there, he was 21, single and had not a single responsibility. Now he was 27, the leader of his own team, an undercover agent and, as if he could ever forget, a single dad. which is why he was in this store to begin with. 

his son, benji, was starting pre-school (again) after diego was moved here and they needed to get him some new supplies and get him ready for his first day on monday. benji was all he really had left of her. ari. they’d me during training when diego was first brought on and two had clicked almost immediately. their relationship had be fast and passionate and had ended with a mission gone wrong. just like his son’s namesake, diego hadn’t been able to save her and he’d been left alone with their son. the first couple years had been hard. benji was young when she died and diego had to learn how to balance his job and his son in order to provide a safe and happy life. most importantly, normal. or, well, as normal as diego could manage. now, he’s got himself mostly sorted and he’s managed to keep his son alive so….win?

  “christ, beeen why not both?” klaus mutters to himself, tilting his head to the side to glance at the ever-present sibling who mostly served as his conscience nowadays. or impulse control. a terrible position to be in, really, when it came to him, but alas, his current predicament wasn’t one klaus could make by himself. which brand of beer to pick with having money only for one. stealing -- that’s one option, but he’s too hungover to deal with that just yet, mulling over what to do when he catches notice of an all too familiar voice. 

    it can’t be. 

         can it?

   he’s either still dealing with the consequences of last night or .. that’s actually his brother whom klaus hadn’t seen in ... god knows how long. years, really. still, beer forgotten, he now heads to the source of the voice, eyes widening upon falling onto what is actually diego talking to .. a kid about a backpack? “diego??” whatever, it’s his brother and god is it nice to see him after this long so klaus doesn’t waste a second longer before he’s enveloping him into a tight embrace. “heeeeey, man, what a fffu--- coincidence seeing you here! been ... what, years?” he reminds himself to try not to curse in front of the kid, which. okay, what? he has to ask. “what’s with the kid?”
