Welcome to (probably) controversial Four Swords opinions with Minty while they're stuck in a car for 10 hours.

I don't think nearly as many people would have shipped the Links together if it weren't for the VIZ translation. Now of course, I'm sure the ships would still exist, but the way VIZ translated the manga just enabled the shippers.

To start off with, the VIZ translation removed almost every part of the manga comparing the Colors to quadruplets. The fan tl has 3 instances where Erune (called Elne in the fan tl) mistakes the Colors for quadruplets or brothers. The VIZ translation has 1, and in that comparison, VIZ adds something in to completely shut that down.

"Not with these guys!" is changed to "We're not even related!" and honestly that pisses me off to no end, because even if they don't consider themselves to be brothers, they ARE related because they're the same person.

Here are more examples of VIZ being allergic to calling the Colors siblings:

They also made that one bit with Shadow and Vio in Chapter 4 oddly flirty. In the fan tl, Shadow tells Vio there's a high position waiting for him, however in the VIZ translation, Shadow instead says that he'll listen to Vio. It just felt weird to me. Probably isn't the best example, but whatever.

I think people use the VIZ translation to defend shipping the colors, which is weird because VIZ changed some things so drastically in some parts. If you still want to ship the Links knowing what the fan tl says, I honestly don't care. They're weird ships imo and they make me kind of uncomfortable, but I don't think it's really considered illegal since it can't happen irl.

Uhhh I think I already posted this au somewhere but I’ll write about it again cause I did not mention important things

(Au? Game ideas??)

-Shadows been living in the palace of winds hundreds of years after the events of fsa

-Another incarnation of fsa link finds him because he needs him for a dungeon outside of the wind palace

-he’s like the key item where it’s the main motif of the game and it’s used throughout the adventure

-comes in a little purple medal so the player can freely deploy him and withdrawal when they feel necessary (like if he’s in the way of a puzzle then the player can “put him away”). Players can also switch between controlling link and shadow if shadow is out

-link will not have a magic meter and instead it will be given to shadow to utilize spells seen in the fsa manga

- if link dies, it’s game over. However, if shadow is out while link dies, the game will continue with the player controlling shadow but he’ll have to carry link around if he is not revived. If both of them die, then it is for sure game over

-if shadow dies, it’s not game over; but he wont be available for a period of time (until he is revived with an item or if link chooses to rest at an inn)

-if shadow is out and the player is currently controlling link, the AI on shadow can be taught by the player how to fight efficiently. However, the ai can only be taught when shadow is out, so if he’s in the medal, you need to deploy him

I really don't like when people draw Shadow with a darker skin tone than the other Links. Making the "evil" Link black/brown while the good guys are white just doesn't sit right with me.

I see a lot of the Four Swords fandom doing it because of one specific artist, and I don't think a lot of people necessarily know about the racist implications behind it, so I'm making this post to educate. Please don't draw the "evil" side of characters with brown skin. Here are some things you can do instead!

Give him the same skin tone as the others.

Give him gray skin, like some of the art in the Legendary Edition of the manga does.

Making him a bit paler than the others could also be interesting, as he can't go out in the sunlight.
