Final post

At the beginning of the project I spent time researching my work and what I wanted to do I had an idea of what I wanted to do (animation) but after a while that changed and I decided I wanted to work on something a bit more practical and something that will interest me more. this project has been difficult but it was enlightening and helped me improve a lot and work in a set time. This will help me improve and work better next time.

Lecture notes

Photography

⁃ two large photographic studios with digital work stations; film processing first year, you’ll be introduced to the University and the technical workshops and facilities available to you

⁃ The course will introduce you to some core photographic skills and genres (including landscapes, portraiture, street photography and montage) whilst also engaging in fashion industry specifics such as editorials, fashion film and storytelling skills.

⁃ You’ll examine the relation of photography to environment

⁃ The second year focus is on finding your own specialist way of working

⁃ opportunity to complete an industry work placement or even study abroad.

⁃ The third year will see you achieve a greater level of independence with self-managed research, study and practice, resulting in a final major project and a written dissertation.

⁃ Major projects requires you to make a significant body of work. You’ll draw upon the skills and knowledge you’ve acquired on the course. You’re encouraged to employ an experimental and creative approach to the generation of ideas and the making of work, supported by an advanced creative methodology.

23 April- SFX makeup. Its made using cotton balls and sheets mixed with liquid latex and then applied to the Styrofoam head, after i will trim it so it fits my face better.

Making the SFX prosthetic mouth

23- 25th April- I worked on making the latex SFX mouth piece that i will apply to my face, so that it will look more like my face has been mangled and destroyed from the attack and that the doctors did the best they could making it look better again but he still wears a mask so it cant be that great.

Character designs & backgrounds

In-between waiting to get the stuff to make my last parts for my cosplay and being unsure of what i wanted to do, I did a lot of character designs and made backgrounds, working on my digital art skills.

Painting fake eye and mask parts

13th April- The air drying clay has dried now so I can work on painting them now. Im using acrylic paint to paint them and nail varnish to polish them.

12th April- started making the fake eye and side parts of the mask with air drying clay. needed them to dry before I can carry on yet.

1st SFX Makeup Test

8th April- I did my fist SFX cosplay test today, as i still don’t have all the stuff to finish the mask or made the fake eye yet. I don’t think I like it that much so i’m probably going to make a latex prosthetic instead, but i don’t have all the stuff for that yet, i will et it as soon as i can.

Sal’s mask

7th April- I worked on painting my mask today, its still not finished but i don’t have the straps yet.

SFX & Real wounds

5th April- Some of these are real wounds and others are SFX makeup, I put together the ones I thought would suit and dog attack the most, though Sal’s would have been healed so I’m going to work off of that. I have decided I want to do SFX makeup on my self and have a photoshoot cosplaying as Sal, To show the feeling of loss and depression he would feel on a daily not been able to show his face and if he did having people stare or run away. I want to show that he has to live behind a mask physical and fugitively, not being able to show his face out of fear he wont have friends and that he’s self conscious about the way he looks. To quote a part from the game:

“Do you remember the time I saw you without your mask?” - Larry (Sal’s best friend)

“How could I forget” - Sal

“You where headbanging so hard, it flew right off and whacked me in the face! heh. You where so worried about my bloody nose that you didn’t even noticed at first. Yeah, but then once I told I was fine... why did you cry?” - Larry

“Because you didn’t look away” - Sal

Its clear he’s self conscious about the way he looks and that he’s use to people not being able to stand the sight of his face.

Change of idea

5th April- I decided to change my project a bit as animation isn't really working for me and I lack the spark to carry on with it. I decided to go with a project working more on mental health and medical problems. I had fallen in love with a game called Sally Face, where one of the characters (Sally face) had to wear a prosthetic to cover his face because in his childhood he had got into an accident, the lines are a bit blurry about what actually happened but it seems to be have been a dog attack. So i have started looking into what dog attack victims look like and what they look like after surgery and the mental health problems that come with it too, as its shown Sal (Sally face) struggles with PTSD, anxiety and depression, which can stop him sleeping. I will be working on this for the rest of the project.

thu/21/2019 I finished my short animation, so today i worked on some character drawings and added more research about animations in my book

Monday 25th feb~ Thursday 28th feb- first ideas- youth culture. I researched styles and music from the 2000s and looked up Mods and Rockers to have a bit of back story on why those styles where the way they where in the 2000s.
