I know how hard being in that situation can be, and how easy it is to fall into old thought patterns just for the sake of making life more bearable for the time being. But there is more to life than pretending to be someone else so the Witnesses approve of you. Hold onto the things you love, even if you can only think about it to yourself. You are worth it.

Being an ex cult member in fandom spaces is so hard because people really do not understand cults at all

They view it as 'group that's super obsessed with something' and thus make jokes like "welcome to the [fandom] cult" and "[character] cult" jokes

And i cant say anything, especially in public spaces cause they'll either ignore me, don't understand/care, or worse, ask me why or do it deliberately to make me uncomfortable

And i know that most people who do this are ignorant rather than malicious. Many of the people who make these jokes are young and only know of cults through the 'satanic ritual cult' trope we see often in media

But it still makes me want to throw up. That something that ruined my life and many others is seen as a joke. And jealous that they've never had to experience a cult in real life

There are so many people who love you.

I don't necessarily mean the friends or partners you may have (even though that's important, too: yes, they love you! They're not faking it, they do not secretly hate you! They want to be part of your life.).

There are complete strangers who love you. Who are willing to fight for you. Who want to make the world a better, safer place for you. Who feel a lot of love for you and our whole community.

There are a lot of bad things out there, I know. People who prove their negative feelings for us again and again. It's easy to look at them and forgot to turn around and look at the loving ones. The ones who stand up for us, stand next to us. Who get loud for us, vote for us, defend us, cheer us on, cheer us up. Not because they know us personally- but because they know we are human and deserve our human rights.

Never forget that those people exist. It's not you against the world - so many people all over the world are on your side.

i cant stop thinking about burrow's end and it's a genuine problem because i keep getting distracted during bible study so much so that my very devout jehovah's witness parents think it's the literal devil trying to "lead me astray." and it is literally easier to just agree with that than to try and explain to them that no, it's not the devil, it's just thoughts of 7 grown adults roleplaying stoats...... that's all........

kids who werent raised christian being like "lol baptising children is whack if they tried to do that to me i would start doing things to make it look like i was possessed" no you would not. you would bask in the pride and approval coming from the adults around you and you would quietly wait your turn because you were told from birth that sinning sends you to hell and baptism is The Promise that youre dedicating your life to jesus that youve had hyped up for years and watched other people be fawned over as they cry happy tears about it and you do NOT want to fuck up your One Big True Promise To Love Jesus Forever So You Don't Get Tortured For Eternity when you are literally 8 years old. im begging yall to remember its a thousand times easier to see the church's bullshit for what it is when you're not actively in the church. eight year old you is not thinking about trying to fight back against an oppressive religious group indoctrinating children because You Are The Children Being Indoctrinated. stop acting like you would've magically known better if it were you.

I think the best part of finishing Burrow's End is the moment about six or so hours later, where you're chilling in the shower or in the middle of dinner, and you suddenly realize that the tape—you know, that tape—wasn't all five of the Firsts dog-piling and murdering Dr. Winnebago, but literally just Phoebe. And just that one stoat was enough to cause the carnage the kids found in the store room and turn the doctor into a Meat Dave when she didn't even know how to speak human yet.

i've been back for 3 days and i am already just... defeated. memorial sucked. lying to everybody about wanting to get reinstated sucks. being shunned in your own house is a whole different beast to being shunned when you're out on your own. tomorrow is my birthday and i had plans to celebrate but now i can't. so. i really can't wait to escape again 😭 on the plus side... cats. and my papa is actually letting me wear trousers 🫶
