hi there! i will be honest recently i have been overwhelmed. iโ€™ve gotten to a point that i feel like i need to do everything i love to do in my free time all at once because there isnโ€™t enough time in the day. however, this is obviously not good for me and iโ€™m realizing that now because i felt guilty today for finishing a book rather than writing or going to the gym. with this being said, iโ€™m working on a better schedule for me so that i can enjoy all my hobbies & life more equally and balance it out. i plan on returning in the next week or so for i miss writing but i have been in a reading kick as well. so this week will be a trial of working through a different schedule for myself that i donโ€™t stress out or get overwhelmed for enjoying little things outside of work.

There was genuine interest in being told of the shark fishing industry. It was something he probably had seen the results from as he and his father had finished their own fishing for the day when he was you ger but never sought to ask about it further. It took Finnick a while before he became more aware of anything that was outside his little life. By the time he was more observant of the workforce of the district, he was out of the picture as a helping hand. Finnick was distant when it came to a normal day for any other citizen in Four, just an onlooker from the sands behind his home. โ€œWow, itโ€™s crazy how Iโ€™m learning something new about my own home.โ€ The words muttered mainly to himself. There were many things, Finnick probably was unaware about regarding home but this one felt just close enough to be a point of knowledge for him with how often he was out at sea or at the fishing ports.
Her comment of danger only gave rise to a quick smirk to give Fish the acknoledgement that he was still present in their conversation. It was good though, how open she was to him about her life and her greatest attributes. Just as long as the girl was not afraid of the spotlight on her come showtime. It was something to prepare for the biggest moments of survival in this but another thing to actually endure it. Even if that was the simplest thing of sitting on a stage and just smiling to a crowd.
โ€œNot many people do. We all know the point to go in there and fight for your life with spears and knifes. But surviving off the environment given is just asโ€”maybe even more important. Cause thereโ€™s always a possibility I canโ€™t get you the things you may need like food and you have to be able to find that for yourself.โ€ If she was a desirable tribute to the Capitol, it would be easier to get her sponsors but he couldnโ€™t simply bank on that before they had even begun the process of the training week even if he could charm a person here or there. It never always worked out in his favor.
His teeth bit down on the inside of his bottom lip. Fish was clever enough to realize that she needed to impress the other tributes, something that at his young age going into it, he had took for granted as he was far too arrogant. โ€œYeah,โ€ Finnick answered with a nod. โ€œIt would be good if you took yourโ€”letโ€™s sayโ€”second best weaponry skill and showed that off in front of the other tributes. So youโ€™re giving them the idea your lethal but without them knowing just how lethal. Make sense?โ€

"Oh- My family's been fishing sharks for generations," she explained with a melancholic smile. She was thinking about the cold waves again, and the beady eyes of sharks, staring back at her. "I've been helpin' my mom since I was a little girl."
It was a well-known industry in District 4, a craft only women could do (and while this was a very old tradition, it was still upheld to this day). She wondered if it was something she ought to talk about, during her interview. Would it make her look more dangerous? More mysterious? Or would the rich, opulent people of the Capitol just find it silly? They sure loved to eat the sharks, but did they care about who fished it for them?
Tumblr media
"I guess that means I'm used to danger," she chuckled, trying to find humor in her tragic but unavoidable situation. Any edge she could have, she would use. Anything to win, anything to come back home and see the ocean again.
"Thank you, Finnick." It was comforting, to feel like he was in her corner. At least, she wasn't facing the Hunger Games alone. And sure, he had to worry about another tribute, but for now, the boy was still locked in his cabin.
She didn't want to vex the stylists, but she also needed a dress that would allow her to dance if she wanted to showcase this skill during her interview. Sometimes, being charming went a long way, and Finnick was living proof of it. His beauty had earned him plenty of sponsors.
"I didn't think of that," she confessed, looking embarrassed. But he was right, of course. All she knew was the landscape of 4. If the arena was a forest or a desert, hunger and thirst could kill her before a tribute could. "I'll focus on survival techniques."
"But shouldn't I show off a little bit too? To get allies, or at least make sure they don't underestimate me?"

finnickโ€™s capitol companions telling him that without them he might not have won as a tactic to force him to be grateful for them and think his life remains in their hands. A threat of superiority above him and that he ultimately was nothing without them. young, naive finnick believing them at first and completely overtaken with self-hatred and as he cries to mags about it he canโ€™t help but tell her that maybe theyโ€™re right.

am i just now thinking about how peetaโ€™s family were watching the Games with the cameras on Peeta long enough to see him kill Brutus before it switched to Katniss, panic struck at losing Peeta and shouting his name before she shoots the arrow and then the screen goes black. The dread and concern that take hold of the Mellarks as they just stare at the blank screen not knowing the outcome of what happened to Peeta. Then, moments later chaos outside and Graham, tells his wife and two sons to stay put while he goes to see what was going on and thenโ€”yes iโ€™m just now thinking about this and distraught.

His jaw clenched underneath the plastered look of being entertained. There were many that were luckier than him when it came to the role of being the desirable companion at a party. Oh, how he was indeed tragically fortunate to have all eyes on him. To be the center of attention was what he always wanted, at least in how he was portrayed. Maybe back when he was younger, that need for attention would have been something he naively craved.
Finnick looked to the side table acting as if he was interested in some other delectable rather than conversing with the younger man. Too prideful to admit that he was trapped in a corner with that remark. The jealousy that tugged at him pulled tightly as he glanced to see that stupid grin on the otherโ€™s face. Did he know he won the conversation? Were these thoughts exactly how he was perceived when he made snarky remarks and acted as if he were superior to everyone else? Most likely. The answer came to him quickly as he drew himself back into the conversation.
Finnick gave a puzzled look in reply to the story of the tributes barbaric traditions. The extent of calling it barbaric could be harsh considering it was similar to the deep dives in the ocean to find oysters in search of pearls. โ€œHow honorable?โ€ He replied with a laugh tailing up like a question providing a sense of mocking. It felt more inviting to cause a stir between them as the other cast the idea of the sea as a place of simplicity. โ€œJust like a fish, in need of their home again. Thatโ€™s what youโ€™re probably thinking.โ€ Even if it was true that Finnick was a fish out of water when he wasnโ€™t home. โ€œThe water gives us that sense of relief in freedom from all the publicity and the crowded places like this. A breath of fresh air.โ€

Finnick tilted his head to the right as he quickly determined if he would accept the one-word apology. Fingers tapped against the metal of the trident in his head. He understood the uncertainty that those two had regarding his proclamation of alliance, but the idea of better in numbers should cross their minds even if all twenty four were not holding hands. He chuckled to himself, shaking his head allowing himself to play nice and continue on with them. โ€œSounds good,โ€ Finnick drawled out. โ€œIt would be best to put ourselves as far away from the shore right now, and find some kind of water. Unless you have a better idea?โ€

while he wasn't by any means ungrateful for the older victor's assistance, peeta still couldn't help but question why he was helping them in the first place. what could he possibly gain from saving him and katniss? and the fact that haymitch hadn't said a word about this allyship didn't sit well with the boy. a moment passed before he uttered, โ thanks. โž he thought he should bite his tongue for now. at least until they were relatively safe. โ we should probably get moving. โž

no cases today at work and i donโ€™t think iโ€™m tasked with travelling today. so i actually may be online working on drafts! may also throw out a new starter call since itโ€™s been a minute and need some fresh threads. letโ€™s hope that the coworker i donโ€™t care for doesnโ€™t force the two of us that do everything with a task that we explicitly told our manager we would not do because we did everything thus far by ourselves ๐Ÿ™ƒ

One of Mags' chairs. Finnick liked the idea of having it here rather than the abandoned house across the way. In its own way, it was a way to have Mags be a part of their child's life, something his wife may have thought just as he had now. But Annie at the abandoned house by herself, was a difficult thought to swallow. Mags had been their lifeline, their only family in the lonesome world of 'Victor'. To face the reality of her absence alone would have been disheartening. He squeezed the rounded end of the chair's armrest as if he were squeezing the hand of his late mentor. It would have been easier with her here to patch up the dead space between them.
Her suggestion after his verbal vomit ceased was comforting. A grounded statement that was easy to bring that flutter of something right given that all he wished was to do right by Annie and their child. His terrible attempts at creation could eventually turn out to be a loved toy in the future if he kept trying to make it look like what it was intended to be. There was not a response he could think of as a reply to her words, as much as he let himself think through it, only nodding in acknowledgment as fingers still worked on tracing the lines of the wooden chair.
When the contact of her hand stilled his own, the prickling of nerves began in his fingertips as she rested his hand on her belly. This was the first time in the long hours of his return that he was meeting their baby. He had been fixated on Annie for much of the day. But now, he felt the welcoming kicks of their child. Finnick let out an exhale of elation. "If that's the case, you really are going to have your hands full with the both of us. Especially as I'm not the best example of how to best channel the fact I can't sit still. Considering." There was a small laugh at the end of his sentence as he hinted at his months-long stretch of not being able to settle down.
Tumblr media
Annie relaxed back against the wood of the chair and rocked slightly, watching Finn brush his fingers against the armrest . "It's the one from Mags' patio. I brought it over here", she told him, not entirely sure he would like the idea, but she had wanted something of their old friend in the house for when the baby was born. She would never meet the little one, so at least they would be rocked asleep in her chair every night, keeping a small part of Mags alive. The old woman had given so much to keep Finn and Annie alive and healthy. Everything she had now, she owed Mags, because the Quarter Quells could have ended it for her. She would not be sitting here today, highly pregnant, back home after the war, hadn't it been for Mags volunteering.
When Finn started rambling about the rope, Annie listened, mustering him intently, noticing how he fidgeted and avoided her gaze. It was obvious to her that he was sorry for what had happened and felt bad - as he should have. "Well, keep trying then until it looks like you imagined it", she offered, resting one hand on the swell of her stomach, because the baby was kicking her furiously in the ribs, as if she was telling its mother to make up with Finn. There was still so much left unsaid between them, but Annie was too tired to fight. She had lived months without him and wanted that chapter to end. Hopefully he had understood that what he had done was abysmal and had really hurt her and even though he had not been able to promise her he would not leave again, Annie wanted to believe that next time he'd at least do it differently.
Reaching out, she took the hand that was still fiddling with the armchair and placed it atop her belly, where the baby was still moving and kicking. It was head down now, so close before birth, and Annie could feel it kick up by her ribs and stomach all day. It always decided to be the most active when she wanted to sleep, which was an unfortunate constellation and contributed to her constant exhaustion. Even though it was only six pm right now, she already felt like going to sleep again. "I think it's gonna be a boy. It's so active all the time. Truly feels like a little you in there, always moving, never sitting still."

Even if his stylist was right that the wins the career districts obtained did not happen every year, it did not mean that his chances of winning did not increase because of that implication alone. "I guess." The only two words to leave his lips focusing on the room beyond where he stood as the closeness was still uncomfortable to the tribute. At her command for the jacket, Peeta nodded quickly and shrugged the jacket off of his shoulders before handing it to her.
He stood awkwardly until he decided that he would take a seat near the stylist and watch her work with her sewing kit. "Am I allowed to tell you what Haymitch and I talked about?" He asked what could easily be a dumb question. She was part of his team just like Effie and Haymitch. The same could be said for Katniss as well; however, sometimes it seemed like she wanted to be against him rather than be a supportive district partner.
portia shrugs. โ€œthey win most of the time, but that doesn't mean they win all of the time,โ€ she says, scribbling down notes, and then she looks more closely at the jacket. the adjustments that need made aren't ones that she can do while the jacket is on. โ€œtake it off,โ€ she says, her tone firm.
she's hoping that she'll have enough time to adjust the jacket before peeta's interview, but at the very least peeta's interview is the last.she grabs a seat, pulls her sewing kit out of the bag. โ€œdo you know what you're going to talk about?โ€ she asks, as she works. โ€œi'm sure haymitch has already told you this, but the interview is about making an impression on the sponsors.โ€

good morning here is a happy thought: finnick playing with the children of d4 in the water, holding swimming races, building sand castles, fixing a sand castle one of the older boys accidentally stepped on while running around. just the little unseen things that happen in district four. though the parents disapprove of it
