Your best writing happens when you stop worrying about what’s “good” and just write. Messy, chaotic, too-long sentences. Weird, overdramatic dialogue. Scenes that make you feel something. You can always clean it up later, but the rawest, realest writing comes from writing like no one will ever read it.

Nikolai Lantsov Fashion: Royalty Edition
Nikolai still hovered in the doorway. He wore full military dress, a pale blue sash across his chest. The light from the parlor glinted off his medals and gilded the edges of his golden hair. He was playing the role of the polished prince tonight. But standing there, he just looked like a lonely boy who didn’t want to return to a party by himself.

hi there! i will be honest recently i have been overwhelmed. i’ve gotten to a point that i feel like i need to do everything i love to do in my free time all at once because there isn’t enough time in the day. however, this is obviously not good for me and i’m realizing that now because i felt guilty today for finishing a book rather than writing or going to the gym. with this being said, i’m working on a better schedule for me so that i can enjoy all my hobbies & life more equally and balance it out. i plan on returning in the next week or so for i miss writing but i have been in a reading kick as well. so this week will be a trial of working through a different schedule for myself that i don’t stress out or get overwhelmed for enjoying little things outside of work.

There was genuine interest in being told of the shark fishing industry. It was something he probably had seen the results from as he and his father had finished their own fishing for the day when he was you ger but never sought to ask about it further. It took Finnick a while before he became more aware of anything that was outside his little life. By the time he was more observant of the workforce of the district, he was out of the picture as a helping hand. Finnick was distant when it came to a normal day for any other citizen in Four, just an onlooker from the sands behind his home. “Wow, it’s crazy how I’m learning something new about my own home.” The words muttered mainly to himself. There were many things, Finnick probably was unaware about regarding home but this one felt just close enough to be a point of knowledge for him with how often he was out at sea or at the fishing ports.
Her comment of danger only gave rise to a quick smirk to give Fish the acknoledgement that he was still present in their conversation. It was good though, how open she was to him about her life and her greatest attributes. Just as long as the girl was not afraid of the spotlight on her come showtime. It was something to prepare for the biggest moments of survival in this but another thing to actually endure it. Even if that was the simplest thing of sitting on a stage and just smiling to a crowd.
“Not many people do. We all know the point to go in there and fight for your life with spears and knifes. But surviving off the environment given is just as—maybe even more important. Cause there’s always a possibility I can’t get you the things you may need like food and you have to be able to find that for yourself.” If she was a desirable tribute to the Capitol, it would be easier to get her sponsors but he couldn’t simply bank on that before they had even begun the process of the training week even if he could charm a person here or there. It never always worked out in his favor.
His teeth bit down on the inside of his bottom lip. Fish was clever enough to realize that she needed to impress the other tributes, something that at his young age going into it, he had took for granted as he was far too arrogant. “Yeah,” Finnick answered with a nod. “It would be good if you took your—let’s say—second best weaponry skill and showed that off in front of the other tributes. So you’re giving them the idea your lethal but without them knowing just how lethal. Make sense?”

"Oh- My family's been fishing sharks for generations," she explained with a melancholic smile. She was thinking about the cold waves again, and the beady eyes of sharks, staring back at her. "I've been helpin' my mom since I was a little girl."
It was a well-known industry in District 4, a craft only women could do (and while this was a very old tradition, it was still upheld to this day). She wondered if it was something she ought to talk about, during her interview. Would it make her look more dangerous? More mysterious? Or would the rich, opulent people of the Capitol just find it silly? They sure loved to eat the sharks, but did they care about who fished it for them?

"I guess that means I'm used to danger," she chuckled, trying to find humor in her tragic but unavoidable situation. Any edge she could have, she would use. Anything to win, anything to come back home and see the ocean again.
"Thank you, Finnick." It was comforting, to feel like he was in her corner. At least, she wasn't facing the Hunger Games alone. And sure, he had to worry about another tribute, but for now, the boy was still locked in his cabin.
She didn't want to vex the stylists, but she also needed a dress that would allow her to dance if she wanted to showcase this skill during her interview. Sometimes, being charming went a long way, and Finnick was living proof of it. His beauty had earned him plenty of sponsors.
"I didn't think of that," she confessed, looking embarrassed. But he was right, of course. All she knew was the landscape of 4. If the arena was a forest or a desert, hunger and thirst could kill her before a tribute could. "I'll focus on survival techniques."
"But shouldn't I show off a little bit too? To get allies, or at least make sure they don't underestimate me?"

finnick’s capitol companions telling him that without them he might not have won as a tactic to force him to be grateful for them and think his life remains in their hands. A threat of superiority above him and that he ultimately was nothing without them. young, naive finnick believing them at first and completely overtaken with self-hatred and as he cries to mags about it he can’t help but tell her that maybe they’re right.

am i just now thinking about how peeta’s family were watching the Games with the cameras on Peeta long enough to see him kill Brutus before it switched to Katniss, panic struck at losing Peeta and shouting his name before she shoots the arrow and then the screen goes black. The dread and concern that take hold of the Mellarks as they just stare at the blank screen not knowing the outcome of what happened to Peeta. Then, moments later chaos outside and Graham, tells his wife and two sons to stay put while he goes to see what was going on and then—yes i’m just now thinking about this and distraught.

His jaw clenched underneath the plastered look of being entertained. There were many that were luckier than him when it came to the role of being the desirable companion at a party. Oh, how he was indeed tragically fortunate to have all eyes on him. To be the center of attention was what he always wanted, at least in how he was portrayed. Maybe back when he was younger, that need for attention would have been something he naively craved.
Finnick looked to the side table acting as if he was interested in some other delectable rather than conversing with the younger man. Too prideful to admit that he was trapped in a corner with that remark. The jealousy that tugged at him pulled tightly as he glanced to see that stupid grin on the other’s face. Did he know he won the conversation? Were these thoughts exactly how he was perceived when he made snarky remarks and acted as if he were superior to everyone else? Most likely. The answer came to him quickly as he drew himself back into the conversation.
Finnick gave a puzzled look in reply to the story of the tributes barbaric traditions. The extent of calling it barbaric could be harsh considering it was similar to the deep dives in the ocean to find oysters in search of pearls. “How honorable?” He replied with a laugh tailing up like a question providing a sense of mocking. It felt more inviting to cause a stir between them as the other cast the idea of the sea as a place of simplicity. “Just like a fish, in need of their home again. That’s what you’re probably thinking.” Even if it was true that Finnick was a fish out of water when he wasn’t home. “The water gives us that sense of relief in freedom from all the publicity and the crowded places like this. A breath of fresh air.”
