Artist Loren Stump specializes in a form of glasswork called murrine, where rods of glass are melted together and then sliced to reveal elaborate patterns and forms. While the murrina process appeared in the Mideast some 4,000 years ago, Stump has perfected his own technique over the past 35 years to the point where he can now layer entire portraits and paintings in glass before slicing them to see the final results.

Rabbit Killer!!

Least weasel (Mustela nivalis sp.)
In spite of the smaller subspecies clocking in at less than half a pound (for comparison, domestic ferrets typically weigh at least a pound and a half), these little bastards are still quite capable of taking down a five-pound rabbit.  Babies are killing things by the time they’re two months old, which is rather to be expected from kits reared in dens lined with the skin of their mothers’ victims, so, you know.  Weasels.

Happy National Moth Week! It’s an ideal time to observe and celebrate these remarkable, mainly nocturnal, butterfly cousins.  Before you head outdoors, here are some things to know about moths.

Ephemeral
As the idea of time continue to pass through my thoughts, I understand that everything is short in the long run, while I have so many fears for right now; I truly need to find something to do with my time that satisfies me.  As in the words of John Steinbeck, "I am not willing to trade quality for quantity."  For the moment; little bits of quality are found through out the week; but my life is saturated with bits I have to do.
I do understand this is the dilemma of becoming an adult, but it is also a direct result of want and consumerism.   Once I physically left where I had grown up, I found that my life was considered unsatisfactory by other people's standards; even though I was mostly happy with what I had.  I have also found that now, living in a combined world of both my visions as well as other people's visions, I have come to want things that even as I want them, know they are unwarranted wants and desires; at times, I even laugh at myself for the wanting of these goods so I can feel more secure in my new surroundings.
I enjoy as I recognize my unneeded wants, and am able to squash the desire; I hope this gives my future a better outlook; as I put more emphasis on me, and less on things.
