Day 4 I'm terrible at this clearly but now I have daily alarms. Plus lay offs at work and moving houses - so quite busy! Phantoms in the Brain is easily one of the best books I've read. Neurology taught Sherlock style!

Hectic last week due to interview schedules but hopefully this frequency gets better going forward. Here鈥檚 a TED talk I watched on the fear of failing.

Day 1 - Babies and Broccoli
So I wanted to consciously spend time exercising my brain everyday and here鈥檚 an attempt to keep track of that. I鈥檒l spend 21 minutes everyday watching a TED talk/drawing/reading something new/listening to new music etc, and a couple of minutes putting it down here.
Here鈥檚 day one.
Fascinating TED talk on the minds of babies - empathy at 18 months. Always thought it was crazy to assume babies don鈥檛 understand us. We don鈥檛 understand them, they probably understand us pretty damn well.

Day 2. #fellowshipOTInk This is the opening verse to Kalidasa's ballad Raghuvamsa. Roughly translated it means - "To gain the knowledge of speech and it's meaning, I pray to the parents of the world who are inseparable like speech and meaning itself" This is a special verse for a lot of reasons. Firstly, it's a verse I remember discussing with Thatha and proudly telling him about learning it at school only to find out that he's read the entire poem and knows Kalidasa's works like the back of his hand. This verse also brings back wonderful memories of Sanskrit classes in school where we looked forward to such digressions from the text and probably learnt more interesting things from the digressions than the text. And lastly and most importantly, the wordplay in the verse (which I happened to discuss with Thatha). The last words " parvatheeparameshwarou" have two interpretations. At first glance it is Parvathi-Parameshwara that Kalidasa seems to be seeking his blessings from. However the word can also be split as parvatheepaha and rameshwaraha. Parvatheepaha being Parvathy's pati and Rameshawara being Ramaa's (Lakshmi's) eshwara or consort. Wonderful wordplay that saved him from the accusation of being a Shaivite.

Doing this thing on twitter called #fellowshipOTInk to get people to write on paper more frequently. Here's Day 1. My favorite line from Boshtami by Tagore.

Krishna grew up to be slightly hipster. Long hair, thick frames and all the jazz (quite literally).

Like everyone in the corporate world, Krishna wasn't a Monday guy. (Who is, anyway?!)

Gave my seat to a guy who looked extremely tired, almost like he hadn't slept in 2 days or something. Sometimes people with heavy bags, people who've had bad days at work and even the super tired ones, deserve a seat :)
