Jeffrey Edward Epstein was an American financier and convicted sex offender held at the 12-story Metropolitan Correctional Center in lower Manhattan. He committed suicide by hanging while in the facility and according to reports, the facility is in lockdown to give way for a gun search which was rumoured to be smuggled inside. Inmates of the jail which is around 700 are said to be confined to their cells around the clock, not allowed to shower, and get to eat only cold food. Other Bureau of Prisons employees were also brought in to help with the search which in turn revealed a ton of contraband.
