I can't find the big post i made about it a couple years ago but now that it's heating up again in the Northern Hemisphere, I just want every disabled, chronically ill, elderly, or medicated person to know that if your city/state sends out an alert telling people to raise their air conditioning temp or stop using it all together in order to ease the power grid in order to help the vulnerable: ignore it. You ARE the vulnerable in question. Don't die from the heat stroke you're at an increased risk for.
For those cooling down in the Southern Hemisphere, the same applies to what temp you set your heater to. Ignore it.

still thinking about that r/hypotheticalsituation post where someone was like "what if a potato chip spawned somewhere randomly in the world. and every hour the number of potato chips at that location would double. and the only way to get rid of them for good would be to eat all of the potato chips before they doubled again." and someone calculated that it would only take like, 48 hours of people ignoring a weird pile of potato chips before an absolutely irreconcilable number of potato chips was blanketing a city.
and then people were like "no wait if it spawns randomly in the world, it's highly likely it would be in an ocean" and then people were debating whether there were enough small fish swimming at the surface in the open ocean that would be able to eat a potato chip and thus save humanity from the potato chip apocalypse.

Remember "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" ? I feel like there's been a distancing from the "reduce" and "reuse" part and a favoritism towards "recycle" by corporate American.
Capitalism can still thrive with recycling in the mix. You buy Plastic Thing 1, throw it away after one use, and they take that and recycle it into Plastic Thing 2 and sell it back to you. All while continuing to harm the environment.
Reusing puts a damper on things. They can't sell you Plastic Thing 2 when you're still using Plastic Thing 1. Plastic forks, for example- there is literally no reason why you can't reuse plastic forks more than once (aside from maybe microplastics, but it's too late for that)
Reducing is the one everyone wants to ignore. Just don't buy Plastic Thing 1. You don't need Plastic Thing 1. Pick up a set of metal forks and use those for years. Convenience is killing the planet

I took my little brother (autistic, mostly non verbal) out and he was using his voice keyboard to tell me something, and this little boy (maybe 4 or 5?) heard him and asked me "Is he a robot??" I tried to explain to him that no, he isn't a robot, he just communicates differently, but my darling brother was in the background max volume "I am robot I am robot I am robot I am robot"

unfortunately once you start noticing the tendency of some sci-fi to flatten every character into ‘ambiguously atheist’, the implication that the only future is one where no one has any religious beliefs is going to piss you off for the rest of time

No Kings! Protest(6/14/25)

On Saturday June 14th, as tanks were rolling down the streets of DC for the Army's 250th Birthday, millions of people turned out into the streets for the No Kings! protests. The Ascendant Project took this as an opportunity to talk to the protesters to find out what motivated them to demonstrate and rally. We started off with a pre-game at Cafe Nola where we discussed what we were looking for in contrast to the Hands Off protests that occurred a few months prior. From there we went to the No Kings! protest in Mullinix Park, just off Carroll Creek in Frederick Maryland. We interviewed two people, an organizer of the protest and an attender. We had gotten their names, but as amateur as we are, we lost them. But they agreed to be interviewed and so their videos are below. After listening to the speakers, we went to South Mountain Creamery to discuss what we saw where we discussed the deep divisions within the Left as evidenced by the heckling of US Rep April McClain Delaney. The following day, Brian Smyers interviewed Desiree Abshire who also attended about her motivations for going, what she felt during, and the state of this nation as a whole. So please enjoy the pictures and perspectives. The audio quality will be strained at times because of the crowd chatter at the protest and restaurants, so forgive us. Is there a Sound Engineer in the house? Please reach out and give us some pointers.

I dunno. I think that what bugs me most is that, coming out of the Second World War, it felt like there was all of this talk about how humanity had learned its lesson and things would be better in the future and we would break the cycle of history and things like "Never Again" actually had meaning.
And now here we are. Again.
And again and again and again and again and again and again
