What's a difference between historians people who just like to study history?
idk maybe the fulltime yearslong professional training by other professionals and constant peer review aka quality control? what's the difference between a five star chef and someone who makes homemade meals every day.

On September 5th, 1725, the 15 year old Louis XV married the 21 year old Marie Leszczyńska.
Louis had been engaged to Infanta Mariana Victoria of Spain for some time, but the engagement was broken off after he became seriously ill in 1523. They feared he might die before having an heir, which the Infanta, still a child, couldn’t provide. After an extensive search, Marie was chosen as his bride. She was of childbearing age, and had no controversial alliances, which made her a perfect candidate.
Within the first two years of their marriage, she would give birth to twin daughters, Louise Elisabeth and Anne Henriette. Louis was said to have been thrilled with their birth, boasting that people said he couldn’t father children, and now he’d had two at once. They would go on to have 8 more children, and were married for a total of 42 years, making her France’s longest serving Queen Consort.

Cons of being the designated royal-watcher friend this week: everyone is asking me about Kate’s hair
Pros of being the designated royal-watcher friend this week: I get to tell all the folks asking me if Kate’s hair is a wig that we don’t know anything (except that she went blonde)

Even more specifically, because of the Letters Patent that created the title, if Lord Downpatrick doesn’t have a son, the Dukedom of Kent will pass to Nicholas (or, if Nicholas has died, his oldest living male descendant)!
If in completly wrong someone please feel free to correct me— but the dukedom ceases to be a royal dukedom after the current Duke of Kent dies, it then becomes a “normal” dukedom. His son won’t be a Royal Highness, same as Harry’s dukedom ceases to be a royal dukedom when Archie’s hypothetical children inherits (and the Duke of G’s son and so on)
The “laws” of a dukedom falls outside of royal succession, it’s peerage laws and they don’t really care about your religion unless something about it was stated when the dukedom was conferred. It’s just about who the next heir is. So if Lord Downpatrick doesn’t have any male children it’ll just go to the next male in line. He’s got time though, iirc he’s in his 20’s?
Yes, apparently they become normal dukedoms (completely against this btw but whatever), Lord Downpatrick is 36 though, still time to have kids but if he doesn't, the by then normal peerage will go to his uncle Nicholas?? Well that sucks

The restrictions on members of the British Royal Family being Catholic or marrying Catholics—with the exception of the monarch, who must still be Anglican—was lifted by the 2013 Succession to the Crown Act.
George Windsor, who is Catholic, will someday inherit the Duke of Kent title, as will his son after him.
The Dukedom of Kent descends in male line, so as long as there is a man descended from Prince George, Duke of Kent in male line, he will inherit and the title will not revert back to the Crown.
The current line of inheritance for the duchy is as follows:
Prince Edward, Duke of Kent
1. George, Earl of St Andrews
2. Lord Downpatrick
3. Lord Nicholas Windsor
4. Albert Windsor
5. Leopold Windsor
6. Louis Windsor
7. Prince Michael of Kent
8. Lord Frederick Windsor
This is probably a tasteless question but does anyone know if the son of George Windsor, Earl of St Andrews, who is a catholic can hold the Kent title? He goes by the second subsidiary, Lord Downpatrick, so I'm assuming he'll hold it when the time comes, but I'm still so confused about the catholic thing. Also he doesn't seem to have any kids, so would the Kent dukedom reverse into the crown or could it go to Lord Nicholas? Who is also a catholic 🤷🏻♀️

It is with deep sorrow that Buckingham Palace announces the death of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Kent.
Her Royal Highness passed away peacefully last night at Kensington Palace, surrounded by her family.
The King and Queen and all Members of The Royal Family join The Duke of Kent, his children and grandchildren in mourning their loss and remembering fondly The Duchess’s life-long devotion to all the organisations with which she was associated, her passion for music and her empathy for young people.

The biggest misconception in public schools is that literary analysis is about proving you can be right or wrong about a book you read
Literary analysis isn’t about the book
It’s not even about being right
It’s about performing an investigation and presenting your case to the jury
It doesn’t matter if your defendant killed that guy or not. If you can convince the jury he didn’t, you’ve won
And the incredible life skill of spinning bulletproof bullshit out your ass with a handful of facts and a prayer is soooooooo much more valuable than anyone’s ever gonna tell you

My hairgate take is that K has had a full head of highlights followed by a half head, when she really should’ve been given two full heads to go progressively lighter.
You can see from the back that the top section of her hair is a lot lighter than the underneath. The top has enough light pieces that it can be toned to give an ashy blonde look, but the bottom doesn’t. It’s still dark enough that sunlight picks up on the reddish undertones that even cool brown hair has - hence it ends up looking warm even though she’s got ash blonde highlights.
That difference in colour is also probably why people are thinking extensions. To me, it just looks like her hair has gotten too long to hold as much volume, except for those layers at the top.
It looks pretty good in indirect light imo, even if it’s not my favourite hair colour on her. But the colour isn’t consistent, and I think that makes it look a bit dated / generally “off” on her.
I know very little about hair, but this all makes sense to me!
I am naturally ash blonde so I absolutely see your point about natural red tones in dark brown skewing the end color. As her hair shows up on camera (which may or may not be its actual color), hers is definitely warmer than mine.
However, now I’m curious for fandom hairstyles that didn’t work as planned. I have a bunch of gingers in my family so I used a color conditioner as an experiment when I was 21, and ended up with VERY ORANGE hair. Thankfully that was just before covid lockdown so I could grow it out in peace!
This was me in March/April 2020…

…and November 2020.
