At Corda we provide the opportunities these underprivileged people need by teaching them how to make the worlds coolest sandals out of rope! Providing them with a well paying job is just the first step. Our goal is to empower them to be able to start their own businesses, creating even more opportunities and jobs in their local communities. With your support, we will be able to offer them English classes, computer classes and teach them basic business skills. Corda is also providing the hands on experience of starting and growing a business as they participate in all facets of growing Corda in their local community. For this reason we really wanted a product they could sell in their local market, a shoe that was easy to make that was also fashionable, durable, versatile and affordable. Your support enables us to offer Corda sandals at a reduced price in Ethiopia so more can afford them.

Zelalem had been hard at work hand making all the style two sandals from the indiegogo campaign. Corda strives to employ those who need a little extra help. Although Zale had polio as a child and lost most the use in his left hand he helps us way more than we help him! WHAT ARE ROPE SANDALS MADE OF?
Here at Corda we want to make sure we make the best rope sandals possible, and that means using environmentally sustainable rope. That is why we have spent a lot of time researching different types of rope and their effect on the environment. According to the Nike Materials Sustainability Index, Polypropylene has the smallest carbon footprint, recycles easier and uses less energy, water and chemicals to make than cotton, jute or hemp ropes which makes it the best choice for Corda Sandals. We are currently researching best practices for recycling or reusing our sandals, so stay tuned for how you can best dispose of your rope sandals when they have no more adventure left to give.
