Normally I wouldn't bother making a post like this but it came to my attention yesterday via a twitter thread that tumblr user fridaypls is using AI elements in their fanart. Now, if they were doing this because they didn't feel entirely confident in their artistic ability, and they were just doing this for fanart they posted online, then I'd shrug my shoulders and go "eh, whatever"

However, I then found out that fridaypls is selling this fanart and even making posts like "buy my Gale print and get Tim Downie to sign it" and I just can't sit idly by whilst someone makes profit off AI 'art' and there are so many other artists (myself included) trying to make a living off our own art.

The tweet thread about the use of AI by fridaypls can be viewed here and here but I'll also copy and paste some of the examples under a cut line in this post.

So far on twitter, fridaypls got wind of the thread going around about them and they deactivated their account rather than take accountability. I'm probably going to be blocked by them for making this post, but I encourage you to reblog this and spread the word and please, PLEASE don't buy artwork from someone using AI generated images. There are so many other hardworking artists out there making amazing fanart and merch that you can give your money to instead.

not enough people are into shadowheart/nocturne and it makes me feel insane. like what do you MEAN shadowheart used to beat up people who deadnamed nocturne. what do you MEAN shadowheart would frequently have her memories wiped, but nocturne could get her to remember nocturne in a matter of HOURS if not minutes, and would write on her diary about how happy it'd make her to see the expression on shadowheart's face when she remembered? what do you MEAN that if you give shadowheart the noblestalk, a mushroom so rare and potent there is only ONE of them in the entire game, she doesn't remember her parents or the day with the wolves or the mother superior's name but just nocturne? what do you MEAN nocturne was the one who did shadowheart's hair, and she kept at it until her arms were sore, and even without remembering that at all shadowheart still kept the same canonically hard to redo hairstyle? did shadowheart even like night orchids before their hideout, or did they become her favorite flowers because they were there? were they even actually her favorite flowers, or did she just mix up her attachment to nocturne with attachment to the flowers after forgetting her? hello? hello? can anybody hear me????

I love the ideas of drawing Astarion and/or using the tadpoles to show him how he looks like through the connection but I have to say, I am a huge fan of how it was done in the game.

There is something so intense and intimate in the way he asks to learn "what you see" in that cutscene.

And maybe it's because I'm a writer but if I was in his shoes, just seeing myself or getting a picture of myself would not be nearly as effective as someone just coming, looking me in the eye and telling me what they think of how I look (assuming you were nice to him ofc.)

I'm still gonna see the imperfections of myself in a drawing, still gonna see the things I hate through someone else's mind image... hearing what someone genuinely thinks about you, and they are just praises you never thought of yourself is a whole different beast.

Not disagreeing just saying, despite popular belief, humans also mature by 25 in real world and not 18. AMAB people can still see themselves get taller until they hit 25. As an AFAB person my body changed and matured even after I passed 18.

I know there was some discourse about Astarion's age a while back and here's my thoughts on it:

He may have been turned into a vampire when he's 39 (correct me if I'm wrong) but elves' bodies mature at the same speed humans' does. They see maturity around or after 100 years because of experience etc, I also remember reading it is after that point they can't dream about/remember their past lives.

What I'm saying is, Astarion might have been a vampire for 200 years but he's an elf. His trauma sat back his emotional maturity for sure, but I think by elf standards he is 239. His aging stopped physically but by elven standards it counts.

Okay on my first go round of the game, I didn't get the love for Rugan because I thought like... he's there for such a short time. Buuuut then I actually found the Zhent hideout, and him tied to the chair and then Yep fair enough and also same.

Now my asexual ass is on the character creation making a shy and adorbs Cleric of Ilmater who would dote on him and show him the gentleness and care he likely hasn't experienced in a while. Because jesus christ, she witnessed the man she just saved a week ago be beaten almost to death by his own kind, and his friend is dead and bless her she's heartbroken for the poor man. Maybe she doesn't quite get the Zhent and how they operate, but she follows Ilmater it's her job to alleviate and take on suffering.

Anon you are so sweet to want to take care of our sad old man! Honestly I think what did me in the most was his lucky day talk with Olly. I didn't do the chest split until very recently so he was always in good spirits at Waukeen's Rest but the cut content voice lines got me right in the feelings. That is one broken man. Ilmater is a great choice, just be careful around Abdirak. Loviatar and Ilmater do not get along! Please let me know how your adventures go! I'd love to hear more about your Tav!
