Actually horrible people exist!! You’re not being a good little woke angel by saying “you can’t hate someone for [doing objectively awful thing], because that gives anyone on earth permission to hate anyone for anyone reason, so you might as well be part of a literal lynch mob!”
FUCKING HELL PEOPLE

I get what Get Your Hands Dirty is driving at, I do, and I largely agree. I just don’t like the extremity of Ella’s whole “instead of being firmly set in right and wrong and not allowing for nuance, you should have no moral lines when it comes doing a right thing and be 100% an ends justify the means person instead” thing.
#She literally says there’s no line she wouldn’t cross#I like to thing Chloe synthesizes this and finds a place she’s comfortable between bending the rules and sacrificing that binary and#Not having any moral lines at all#Katie reads#book: descendants: the rise of red novelization#descendants

Ah, yes, nothing like the novel basically saying Chloe deserved the “how’d that work out for your dead mom?” line. 😐
#descendants#Katie reads#book: descendants: the rise of red novelization#Actually no you’re stupid and naive for even suggesting we - two kids in way over our heads - even CONSIDER asking an adult for help

Someone explain how Chloe was “being a princess” when she accidentally broke the vase, then immediately took responsibility and apologized. The stepmother was obviously wrong to take it out on Ella, and Chloe is rightly upset at this injustice - which Ella acknowledges as one! I get that Chloe gets needed character development in this story, but the narrative (and other characters) are kinda needlessly mean to her at some points.

I’ve been thinking about Red-Chloe roleswap and how both sides of it give me feelings. Chloe being sort of gentler and softer in nature and taking QoH’s treatment that much harder. Her more overt need for love and approval and pride from her mom, and how all that would make it easier for QoH to shape her in a “mini-me.” And I can clearly see her in the picture of QoH and Red ruling together post-coup.
And on the other side, Red getting the loving family she wants. But I don’t see her rebellious personality disappearing entirely, and perhaps that drives a wedge between them. Perhaps she gets what she wants but still ends up at least partially losing it.

I went from "the new Descendants isn't very good :(" to absolute Rise of Red brainrot in like 48 hours, and I'm so glad this is the first time I've been self-aware of my tendency to sometimes like things significantly more the second time.
#descendants#I gotta focus I'm shifting into 'be completely obsessed with something for a week then never talk about it again' mode
