It's been over a decade at this point, but I love how capcom's solution to the problem of "how do we come up with a story that fits both ace "relatively down to earth compared to the game we're going to crossover with" attorney and professor "canonically has time travel as a plot point" Layton" was to make the plot about a seemingly magic cult that's revealed to just be not really magic and just has 50 optical illusion all going at once.
and it fucking worked.

#i'll be so honest—it depends on the console you're playing on#the original aa trilogy were gameboy advance games but they didn't figure out how to properly take advantage of its#crunchy sound until aa3 so aa1&aa2's music sucked ass and aa3's soundtrack blew them OUT of the water no question#but then when it was remastered for the DS they fixed all the problems with aa1 & aa2's soundtracks so they sounded awesome#but aa3 took advantage of the gba's soundfont so WELL that it didn't really translate to the DS and that's why for example#the gba version of 'catch the culprit' sounds so awesome and the DS version sounds so lacking.#in the same way that the gba version of maya's theme in aa1 sounds godawful but the DS version sounds perfectly fine#when listening to the aa1/aa2 osts you could hardly even tell that these were not originally DS games. aa3 falls flat there#that all being said.....aa4 was the only TRUE mainline DS game. and by god did it take advantage of that. the soundtrack was#made for the DS and it SHOWED. awesome composition. zero problem with the sound. loved it no notes#the 3DS games.................no. aa5 sucked save for like...three songs. the pursuit theme was embarrassingly bad.#aa6 was much much better. easily the winner between the two of them.#SO LIKE. MY POINT TO THIS IS THAT (FOR ME) IT DEPENDS ON THE CONSOLE. if we're talking gba then it's aa3 no question#if we're talking DS it's aa4 (though aa1 is like one millimeter behind it. it's a damn good remaster of the original ost)#if we're talking 3DS it's aa6#i'm going to put aa3 though because it's my favorite game out of them all. peace and love on planet earth
