Why Everything Exposed to Outside-Air Should Be Sterilised
Anything in your home that has been exposed to air from outside or has been handled by another person should be thoroughly disinfected. This applies not only when a person has left the house, but also to people who shop online for their groceries, clothes, etc.
A good example of the importance of sanitisation actually has to do with a friend if my father's. She and her husband decided they were not going to leave the house whatsoever while Covid-19 was in full swing. From the beginning of the lockdown back in May, they did not leave the house even once to prevent contracting this virus. Instead of going to the shops to buy groceries, they'd order their groceries online and have them delivered. Despite their attempts to keep the virus away, they tested positive for Covid about 2 months ago.
They couldn't understand how they'd managed to pick it up if they had't been in any contact with anyone for months. That's when they realised the one precaution they hadn't been taking. They hadn't been sanitising the groceries they had had delivered! They'd picked up the virus simply by touching infected surfaces without even realising they were infected.
This is a great (although sad) example of the importance of sanitising objects that come into the home. You don't know who has handled that object before you, nor do you know whether they've had Covid.
Better safe than sorry!

The Basics of Staying Safe
We are currently living during a global pandemic that came out of nowhere. If you'd told anyone a year ago that people would be legally obligated to wear a mask to leave the house, no one would've believed you.
At the moment, everyone's top priority is staying safe in these trying times. Everyone is trying their absolute best to prevent Covid-19 from spreading.
Here are some of the basics on how to best prevent the spread of the virus if you're planning to leave the house:
Leaving the house
At the moment, people should be staying at home as much as possible and only leaving when absolutely necessary (buying groceries, going to school, etc.). When it is necessary, one should take the proper precautions while one is out. This not only includes social distancing, but wearing a mask, sanitising/washing your hands and remembering not to touch your face.
No matter where you are, social distancing should be maintained at all times to avoid contamination. This means that you should always be at least 1.6m from everyone around you when not at home.
Masks prevent the spreading of Covid-19 by stopping your breathe from being ejected into the air for others to breathe. By law, people in South Africa currently have to wear some form of mask to leave the house. Many different clothing brands are selling stylish cloth masks at affordable prices, but if you can't find any, you also have the option of buying material and making your own, or using clothing items you already have, such as bandanas, as a mask.
It is a good idea to keep a small bottle of hand sanitiser (70% alcohol) on you at all times to use if you touch anything in public. Also remember that if you are able to wash your hands with soap, it is an even better alternative to using hand santiser.
It is also important to avoid touching your face without sanitising or washing your hands first, because if you have touched something that is contaminated, you will be transferring the virus directly to a point where it can infect you.
Coming back home
Remember that objects such as clothing and shopping can easily get contamindated. Even just walking through an area where an infected person coughed without a mask will contaminate your clothes.
If you've gone out, the safest thing to do when you get back is disinfect/sanitise anything that was exposed to the outside-air. This not only means disinfecting objects you bring in, but also putting your clothes in the wash and showering immediately. Make sure that everything you bring into the house is washed and/or disinfected.
If you keep these basics in mind, you will be effectively preventing getting infected with this deadly virus.
