Domestic conflict yaoi my favourite! I love these dramatic idiots.

This is an AU that I’m not sure I’ve posted anything about yet outside Twitter, which is funny bc I’m really, really enjoying it.

Usually these two are on really good terms & very fond of eachother. In this AU they don’t exactly hate eachother, but they’re attached & not exactly happy about it. Things are looking up a bit tho as time goes on & they’re spending more time together outside the constraints of their old power dynamic now that the Seavanshi’s home has been kind of. Obliterated by the Phoenix.

Prior to that the Ruins (Mádraic’s maternal family) were all enslaved by the Seavanshi’s so they could use their Dröhynn. Which sucked. The Phoenix rescued some Ruins, but Mádraic was unwilling to go with her and escaped with Kraken.

//there’s a little timeline fuckery going on with the clothes & general styling they have here, Kraken slapped Mad when he was still stuck as a slave, Mad slapped Kraken much later, maybe about a week after they escaped the Phoenix. But they’re dressed how they are in the current time in the RP. Which is a few weeks after both slaps. See how this doodle is really convoluted? Yeah.//

From left to right we have Kraken, who belongs to an off-tumblr friend, ( you can find them here, https://bsky.app/profile/madamedeer.bsky.social as well as on Twitter under the username Madame_Deer! ) I draw him pretty often in his actual design bc I love him dearly , he’s a squid here because I mean, what else could he really be with a name like that? Plus marine life is pretty significant to him & his people from a cultural standpoint, so it’s just very fitting.

Next is Mádraic, who you’ve seen in his Zhévyan form. He and probably the rest of the Ruin family, are stoats bc they’re absolutely nightmarish when they’re an invasive species. And the Ruins are, well, very invasive & very dangerous. Demigods in general I think draw at least a tiny bit on being a pest species. Of course, one has to control a degree of that rhetoric, because they’re ultimately still people, and unlike invasive species they can choose if they’re an active threat to society. Likening them to wild animals that know no better is both dehumanising and tiptoes a bit too close to giving them an excuse for their actions. Anyway blah, blah I need to get on with it.

Third is Whisp, she’s a Ruin, so she’s a stoat too. I already said what I wanted to about demigods, invasive species & the Ruin family. She’s Mádraic’s mother and is simultaneously responsible for saving him & condemning him. She’s stuck in a perpetual winter coat, trying to understand her motivations is like looking for hardware tools in a toy box. I should introduce her properly & in her Zhévyan form, but since she’s pretty far away rn in canon, it’s hard to describe her without spoiling anything.

Naturally, Verynn should be introduced as well.

Verynn is a Dröhynn, which is a creature obviously, very heavily inspired by tales of dragons, but they are intended to be their own ‘thing’, they’re (generally) four legged, always covered in feathers, and they don’t *exactly* breathe fire, but they do breathe lightning. They have a uniquely strong bond with whichever Ruin child they hatch for, and will usually grow up alongside them, and so they are affectionately and respecfully referred to as family members.

At the outset of the story, Verynn isn’t much bigger than a common pony, and though he can(?) be ridden, he cannot fly. He is mistrusting, quick to anger and can only be safely approached by Mádraic.

Front-facing reference sheet/s for Mádraic, the protagonist of my WIP dark fantasy novel.

First Drawing is the only totally canon one right now, though, even then, that outfit might not be quite correct for the cultural setting, I’ll have to see about that.

Second ref is just a good, general idea of where he may end up in the not-so-distant future.
