WIP Wednesday Thursday
thank u @corvus-frugilegus <3
have some mob AU bc it pleases me personally
Illario insists on driving her to the bar on her first night back, and sticks to her side all the way up to the entrance of the place. It's an hour before open, Ayden should be done with their prep by now and maybe she can get away with stealing them for a reunion around a cigarette. She doesn't expect Viago to be the one standing behind the bar. As soon as the other man spots Illario behind her, he's barking, looking for all the world like a particularly pissed off purebred dog. "OUT!" Illario laughs, a low rumble coming from his throat, and turns to press a filthier-than-appropriate kiss to her lips. "I'll see you after close?" "Sure." She reaches to flatten the lapels of his suit out of habit, presses a much chaster kiss to the corner of his mouth, one that says behave without needing to use the word. He leaves quickly, because even Illario can be cowed sometimes. "That's going to be a problem." Viago announces, clipped, as she approaches the bar. It really is out of the ordinary to see him here; he's got a manager for a reason, namely delegating the boring parts of the job. It's unsettling, really. "Tell him to stop doing that or I have a pair of cinder blocks with his name on them."
since i'm late, open tag to any followers who wanna show me what they're working on rn!!

WIP Wednesday :)
Thank you @mythals-whore and @inquisimer for tagging me this week <3
Have some pre-canon Lucanisara fluff that's absolutely not preceding anything bad happening ever. On the house 🌸
#wip: small hours
Once his shoes were off, he cast another glance at her before lying down on the bed, his head rested in her lap. That’s where we belong, Spite’s thought echoed against his own, the two of them in rare agreement.
“Your hair is down,” he noted. That sight was far from usual— most times, whenever it was loose, the first thing Rook set her mind on would be finding a way to put it up.
“A presumption on my part,” she said. “I know you like the look. Consider it a treat after the day’s hard work.”
He tucked a strand behind her ear, though it fell out a moment later all the same. “You indulge me too much.”
“I like it when you’re happy,” she said, like it was the simplest thing in the entire world. “So I'm also indulging myself, in a way.”
He raised his hand to caress her cheek, feeling a soft Ah escape her lips when his fingers trailed the lines of the scars across her eye. She covered his hand with her own and left a kiss at the base of his wrist, leaning into his touch.
“Would it be too much to ask to stay like this forever?” she asked.
Too little.
Inviting @rookamell @corvus-frugilegus @saessenach to share something with the class if you'd like and haven't already!
#EUUUURRRGH#the divorce knowledge even makes their happy moments hurt#its great#TOO LITTLE#it's asking too little and they still don't get it

WIP Wednesday!!
Tagged by the ever incredible @flowersforthemachines who continues to make me cry thank you
I've been writing out of order because I have brain worms so here is something that won't see the light of day for months still.
Lucanis looked up so quickly from the map he and Davrin had been studying, he almost hurt his neck.
“What do you have?” Davrin asked, rushing over to Neve and the necromancer, both standing next to the strange spirit the Seeker had brought with her.
“It’s… weak here,” Emmrich’s hands waved through the air in front of him, a grey-green light appearing in the room.
“Fabric fear frays,” Cole said dreamily, “Forms in the Fade. She’s close.”
And despite himself, Lucanis felt his chest ache at those words.
She’s close.
Which meant… she was alive? She was really alive.
He didn’t know what to feel, or what to do or what to think, but Spite thought for the both of them.
“Rook,” the demon said with his mouth, using his legs to walk toward the others. “Rook is close?”
He did not resist, however. The small, fragile flame she had started in his heart, that he had thought snuffed when she vanished, had started burning again.
By the blood of the Maker, it hurt.
“Rook is close, Spite,” Emmrich said, “I can open the way into the Fade, to where we could reach her, but I can’t…”
“Can’t what, Emmrich?” Neve asked, her voice echoing the franticness of Lucanis’s thoughts. He’d never heard her so unbalanced.
“There is something blocking the way to her,” Emmrich said, and his voice strained slightly as the light grew.
“Well then what are we waiting for?” Taash growled. “Let’s go in there and get her.”
“Can we do that?” Neve asked, turning to Cole, and Lucanis held his breath. If there was a chance, even a small chance that he could get her back, he’d jump into the Fade head first.
“I can… find her,” Cole said, slowly. “I can show the way, but not break the bars.”
“So that’s a yes?” Davrin asked.
“Close,” Cole said, but it was good enough for Lucanis. It was good enough for Spite.
“Then let us go,” he said, impatiently. “Open the tear, Emmrich.”
“Hold on,” Neve said, and Lucanis almost growled at her. “We don’t know what we’re walking into. ‘Bars’? What does that mean?”
“Who cares?” Davrin said, at the same moment Lucanis said, “Rook needs us.”
The two men looked at each other, and shared a nod. It was not an apology, but an acknowledgement. A shared thought that they would both do anything to get her back.
“Bars,” Cole said. “A cage built for gods. Searching, wanting, hurting, alone.”
Alone.
The word clanged through him.
“Open it,” Lucanis and Spite growled together, and Emmrich did not hesitate before waving his hands, a crack opening in the air in front of them, blinding green-grey light shining from the other side.
Lucanis stepped through, knife and sword in hand, and Davrin stepped through behind him, the others following.

besties please allow me to bestow upon you this baby Taash /Lucanis scene that tragically didn't make it into my rookanis fic.
i'm just so fond of these two together—i can feel the autism spectrum glowing every time they talk to each other and it warms my miserable little heart. (taash's pronouns / gendered descriptions reflect the point in the game ofc)
Upon returning from a two-day mission in Arlathan forest, Lucanis opened the door to the pantry to find a Qunari woman leaning against the shelf reading his Fade-manifested copy of The Joyous Wyvern. She didn’t look up from the book as he entered. “You guys are out of hot sauce,” she said. Lucanis frowned at the stranger, hand hovering over his blade. Not waiting for him to respond, she said, “I don’t get it—why would a kid want to read a book about wyverns when dragons exist?” “I…” Lucanis closed his eyes and shook his head. “Sorry, who are you?” “Taash,” she said, as if that explained it. She shut the book and inspected the cover. “What’s the point of having wings on your legs if you can’t even fly?” “Wyverns can glide quite efficiently,” Lucanis said. “That’s just less cool than flying.” Taash placed the book back on the shelf and folded her arms. “Plus, dragons are smarter. Way smarter.” “Ah,” Lucanis said, the puzzle pieces finally snapping into place. “You are our new dragon hunter.” “Yep,” she said. “You’re Lucanis, right? Rook says you’re a big deal in the Antivan Crows.” Lucanis sighed. “She exaggerates, but yes. That is me.” “You guys really wear those skimpy leather jumpsuits and the capes with all the feathers and shit?” “If the occasion calls for it, yes.” “Cool. I used to want to be a Crow when I was a kid.” “I wanted to be a wyvern.” Taash snorted. “Dumb choice. Should’ve picked dragon.”

Don't think I've ever mentioned this here on the blog, but I'm deeply fond of how Veilguard did Taash's pansexuality in the sense of them having a lean towards preferring women without rejecting the idea of dating men entirely.
A lot of the time, characters' bi/pansexuality is sort of hand-waved as something "neutral", i.e. they do not express any complex feelings towards the way their attraction works with the implication the gender itself does not play any role in who they are attracted to.
And that is a perfectly fine way to exist, of course, but as a bisexual who also has a clear preference that impacts the way I perceive potential romantic partners, Taash's portrayal felt very validating To Me

I find that gif with Lucanis's combat animations very healing because for some reason I have the idea of him being a practical man stuck deep in my head and I really appreciate the reminder he's out there choosing to fight Like That out of his own volition
