I finally got back to working on my Awakening!Anders that I originally started in... 2021. Life happened, okay.

Up next: a novel's worth of rambling about the process.

I've spent the last week-ish working on these gloves. The right glove is just an arm sock with golden satin trim, and took me maaaaybe three hours tops, and that was mostly because I hand-stitched the trim. The left glove, though? Ooof.

I used the same type of textile base (upholstery velvet from approximately 2001), and the three scale-plate-things are made of some leftover leather that I've shaped wet, carved some grooves and lines into with a variety of random tools, and then painted. The golden teeth/claws are made of Worbla's Deco Art, and sort of embedded into each plate. The fake fur is leftovers from the first shawl I made for Velanna, and the leather I used for the top trim is probably leftovers from Jaskier's boots. The gold rivets are genuinely the only thing I've specifically bought for this costume, so clearly it pays off to have hoarded cosplay supplies for 20+ years.

I could not control myself when it came to making the one single line that runs around the glove under the rivets, and ended up waxing together yellow top-stitching thread and a few strands of metallic gold thread. And then I used a few more strands of the metallic thread to weave through the stitches for a bit more sparkle. I ended up using the same combination for the stitching at the edge of the last scale-plate-thing.

Every bit of visible stitching is done by hand, because I just really prefer the way it looks, okay. Plus I really, REALLY love sewing leather.

I genuinely have no idea how long it took to make the one singular glove, but I'd guess it's about as long as I used to spend, in total, on my first costumes two decades ago.

As you can probably tell from the pictures, I've somehow managed to achieve the same type of colours as in the reference, because the damn thing keeps shifting between teal-blue-grey and teal-green-grey depending on the lighting. It's like the enchanting eyes of a manic pixie dream girl. Equally annoying, too.

I'll definitely go back to fine-tune a lot of things, but for now, I'm glad every piece is in place and I can confidently say I've actually finished something for this costume.
