still thinking about this idea…
about how in war no matter how isolated the opposing sides are there are always consequences for the uninvolved and innocents around. how normal ass people get pulled into this canvas and wither in there too because clea in her determination to subdue the writers and protect the remains of her family is willing to push her morals aside. how clea does love her family dearly even with the shortcomings and her way to deal with grief is by Doing and protecting and this canvas would be an entire reflection of those feelings of love and grief and anger
how the writers that get pulled into it are innocent and naive just as alicia was when she was tricked, and that quality is the easiest to manipulate. the main writer character is a person who willingly entered in hopes to get their younger sibling/child out so that they may live even if the main character withers in the canvas instead, and while they do find their younger sibling/child and fight through the canvas together with ink, that child is already gone too much and was really going along for get their older sibling/parent out instead because it’s too late already, and those that help main writer character are also echoes with hopes to get out only to find out they’re already gone outside
idk there’s so much to play with narratively with these concepts, especially with writer magic vs painter magic
shower thoughts about a continuation or sequel in the same universe, if clea traps some writers in a revenge canvas and it’s the players acting as the writers trying to get out of the canvas (that the characters don’t know they’re trapped in, at least until much later as the story progresses) because if their consciousness is trapped in the canvas for too long their outside body withers until death right, so what could be a bigger means of revenge than eternally trapping someone unknowingly into a place they don’t know they’re dying in?
all throughout the story there are lore snippets about the war between the writers and painters, maybe even some withered souls already trapped and dead in the canvas of past writers, maybe some writers from the outside are trying to put some of their power into the canvas to let the ones trapped have a chance to escape, maybe the writer player character(s) have some access to Ink abilities from past writers trapped in that realized too late idk but the magic system has something to do with writing and ink and there are weird eldritch ink blobs too? and you know there’s going to be some fucked up (pos) clea monster designs if she’s involved
something something themes about anger and retaliation and a cycle that never ends
anyways I just think clea and her revenge crusade is fascinating and would be cool to explore from the other side, assuming that the writers are an actual group of people and not some meta for the devs (which they are in my head at least)
