The North and Dean Scene at the Bar (ep8)
*these are just my thoughts about some of the details*
Tumblr media
The first thing is that caught my attention in this scene is that North's side of the bar feels much more cluttered and chaotic, especially with the bright light. I think this reflects the state of his mind. He's obviously been thinking a lot about Sonic and what's been going on with their relationship and what went wrong (the when, how, and why of it all too) but also what he could do to fix it. Which is why he called Dean for help/advice and company.
Another thing. There is a literal red sith lord (darth maul, i think) in the background here (against the wall on the left). One might say it's hiding in plain sight. Whether it's referring to Dean or not, I can't be sure. But he does come into the scene in the shadowed section of the bar so... do with that information what you will. Although, if we do go with the idea of a sith representing Dean, it could also simply suggest that he's going to stir up things for North, which could just be challenging his thought-process, and not that he's necessarily a 'member of the dark side'. But again, I can't be sure.
Ultimately, I think there are two potential ways to view and analyse this scene: one being as a representation of North's perspective (and so Dean as his role to/for North in this scene) and the other being as a general third-person perspective that reveals things about each person.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These shots of them in the reflections are also interesting. The one on the left is from closer to the beginning of the scene– the first of two times they use this camera angle in the scene. At first I thought it was more about how he was in a reflective and introspective mood. But then later in the scene with the second shot (on the right), Dean comes in more clearly, no longer just his back in the reflection but his face too now. And he's prominently in a shadow, unlike North who's in the light. Now, this could mean that Dean isn't the one doing the reflecting in the moment, since he's just here to help North. But this show also has a history of using shots in reflections to suggest deceit or hidden motives, which could be either well-intentioned or malicious (for example, both Charlie and Willy have had such shots but the former had good intentions and the latter had bad intentions). So it's possible that these shots suggest that Dean or even North could be lying about or hiding something.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The red-blue divide here is pretty obvious. Even though in the shadow Dean has more blue light on him, when he comes more into the light, he's more washed in red. Though his shirt is still blue, because of the dark tone of the blue it doesn't stand out against the red like North's lighter blue shirt. If we take this scene as a representation of North's perspective, it could be implying that Dean is going to disrupt his perspective or perhaps push him out of his way of thinking– which he kind of does by telling him to hold onto the opportunity to work things out with Sonic and that it's worth a try despite North's reservations. Alternatively, they could also be hinting at Dean's true allegiances.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These obstructions in the shots of North still confuse me. The first time we get this angle (on the left) I thought it was supposed to represent North's mental blocks and the thoughts and concerns he has about taking his relationship with Sonic to the next level and about how to fix it in general. But then at the end of the scene we get the shot on the right. North looks like he's thought over what Dean said and he's come to a realisation. I thought an unobstructed shot would've followed to represent that, but that's not what they did. Moreover, there’s actually more red than blue now that his shirt is completely hidden in the second shot and there're still the shelves in the way. I'm not sure what this means. Maybe the realisation he came to was wrong? Maybe he'll still say or do the wrong thing? Or maybe the obstruction is not representing North (or his thought-process) at all and there’s something else entirely that I'm missing?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now this one is a bit more far-fetched than everything else I've said so far but. That clown really stands out to me. Not only because of the red, but because of how the angle of the camera makes it look like it's in the car. Also in the second shot there's a reflection of the X-Hunter logo on Dean's jacket upside down on the glass panel, which is not a very good sign. It’s not necessarily suggesting Dean is responsible for whatever the bad thing is, but it also could be interpreted that way. Either way, it is a bad sign in general for the team. I can't put my finger on what it all means in the bigger picture exactly but it has to mean something and that clown has to represent somebody. Maybe it has to do with the mole which may or may not be Dean ?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back to the obstructions again. These ones are really taking up space because of how blatant they are. They aren't shadowed like the shelves I talked about earlier in those shots of North. These ones are right there in our faces, red coloured accents and all. Also, from these angles none of them cover North, only Dean. All while Dean talks to North with an arm on his shoulder (I don't think Dean has powers but now I get stressed whenever a person is touching someone else and the vibe is even the slightest bit off, I can't help it). However, Dean's blue jacket and X-Hunter logo are quite prominently on display in the second shot. And if this really is a scene built on North's perspective, it could just be about the opposing optimistic perspective Dean is bringing to North's resisting pessimism.
Another thing about the first shot on the left specifically that throws me off is the mix of the blue and red in the background around Dean. I can't tell exactly what they're trying to convey with that. Especially with how his head is between the two red bars of light. Maybe it's alluding to Dean's past mistakes? Or maybe that he's still on the other side? I have no idea.
So yeah, those are my thoughts on this scene. This wasn't meant to clear anything up– mostly because I am just very confused by most of the things they've done here (as you can probably tell). But I thought some of the details were worth pointing out.
bonus: a picture of me as an extra in this scene

Maybe Charlie has recessive enigma gene that has led into the development caused by Chris’ lab experiments. It may also explain why power dissolving serum didn’t work on him, perhaps the changing in gene domination was one of the side effects.
Oh interesting idea!! so the foreign substance introduced to his system might have triggered an activation of dormant enigma genes? it wouldn’t be far-fetched for this show, they’ve done crazier things
It could even be the serum Charlie took in the first season that started the change, since they’ve been establishing that his cells are stronger from the beginning of this season. and that’s made him more resistant, to the level of being as resistant as Pete, to the drug trials.
But yeah, enigma Charlie is definitely not impossible especially now that they can literally give people powers. There’s a bunch of ways they could do it!

Let's hope Chris has two daddies tony and another random creepy villain. At least we'll have mpreg
Not only is it canonically possible, there is but one (1) woman in this entire show and she’s had two lines as far as i can remember, so it could very well be that Chris has two fathers, one of whom birthed him 🙂‍↕️
Also i love how you want Chris’ other father to be a villain too. I didn’t even consider it, I just went for straight for the ‘random normal person who slept with the wrong man and fled for his life’ route but yours sounds more fun. I respect the toxic yaoi vision. Also it would explain Chris’ general disregard for other people’s feelings. Poor guy never stood a chance

Hahahaha no worries, anon, I had a feeling that’s what you meant. Thanks for confirming it though! :)

Your laziest answer made me think of something- what if Chris stating that Charlie’s cells are evolving actually meant that Charlie’s becoming an enigma?
Anon, I was thinking the same thing 👀 So now I’d say the chances of Babe getting pregnant have gone from 50/50 to 55/45. If they do actually confirm Charlie’s becoming an enigma, it’s definitely a lot more possible.
But the time constraints would still the biggest obstacle and it’s a pretty big one. There’s almost the whole villain plot still left to be revealed. Even the mole. And then all that needs to be resolved. Then there’s each pair having their resolutions. And also they do like to put some emphasis on platonic relationship dynamics and stuff (which i love and hope they keep up) so they’ll also sprinkle some of that in here and there. It’s just a lot to get done and then wrap up within five episodes

I don’t know if you can tolerate mpreg or not (I won’t state it as a fan but just in general existence) but do you think that we’d get pregnant Babe or not?
honestly when it comes to pregnancy/child-having plots in general, all i care about is that it works for the characterisations and narrative. That said. 🗣️ LET BABE GET PREGNANT 📢 if anything, because i think Pavel wants it to happen and i respect his wishes.
About whether i think it’ll actually happen or not… i’d have to say there’s a solid 50/50 chance. they could very well find a way around the fact they’re both alphas. like if Charlie becomes an enigma somehow. or Charlie’s special cells are So Special that against all odds he can get Babe pregnant. or a new unexplained scientific breakthrough.
What might actually prevent it from happening though is the time constraints. there are only five episodes left and there’s a lot of stuff to cover. i specify that because i don’t think the cast or writers are against it, what with the breastfeeding/milk jokes (Pavel and Garfield), mama-papa nicknames, and the fact that the canonical existence of mpreg drove the first season’s main plot.

Hi! Actually I’m so curious how Tony had child, I mean did he have a partner, was it Babe’s father? 👀 did he create Chris/Way just using his DNA just to have an heir
Hi, anon!! I am so curious too!
I’ll be honest, I really don’t think the other parent will be Reval. I also sincerely with every fibre of my being hope it isn’t him because if so, it would make Tony’s plan in season 1 so much more disturbing than it already was. If Way were their son, Babe would be Way’s half-brother 😬 So. Yeah. Hope they don’t do that.
Using his DNA to concoct a super-baby doesn’t sound out of character for Tony actually. It’s possible! But if it was to have an heir, I don’t think he’d want to sell his grandchild 🤔
It could also have been an accidental pregnancy. Maybe Chris’ other parent knew that Tony was Evil and wanted to protect their child from him so they took him and fled to America. If Way is Chris’ twin, maybe Tony got to him first. Or maybe Tony got hold of some of Chris’ DNA and cloned him to make Way ? But there are holes in all these theories so I have no clue
There are so many possibilities 🫨

The acting/directing choice to make Kim so bold and confident, never embarrassed or shy, never second guessing himself, just a straight up what you see is what you get guy, is so solid and must be so reassuring for Kenta. Like after that kiss Kim could have looked away, he could have averted his eyes for a millisecond, he could have made himself smaller, just for a moment then recovered. He could have let doubt crept in. But he never did. He stood tall, and strong and stable. He backed his actions and never showed any sign of regret or shame. Just a fully committed, emotionally and mentally healthy guy. His emotions don’t change with the wind and he’s so clear about this with his facial expressions, his actions, his posture and his gaze.
It’s a hell of an acting choice, one that takes real insight and courage. It’s easy to play the person who feels everything, whose emotions are easily swayed, affected by the tiniest perceived slight . Playing such a solid, proud, stable and unaffected person is a very different choice and makes for a great fucking story.
A++ five stars. Those few seconds standing up after the back of the couch kiss was riviting acting from Benz.

So if not the secret long-lost twin theory i had before (which i haven’t let go of yet), what if instead of Chris being Way’s clone, Way was actually a clone of Chris ?
