I was not planning on participating in sicktember this year (just lack of time) but I’ve had a ridiculous idea for a 6 part series I can’t get out of my head and now I might have to just find the time! Who needs to sleep anyway?

I’m not sure how many people realize that there’s a way in which hurt/comfort is actually very kinky, because at its core you’ve got this emotional power exchange fantasy where one character is vulnerable and helpless and the other takes care of them. In the case of stories involving grievous injuries, where someone is bedridden for a long time, you often end up with two characters in a 24/7 total power exchange relationship without a safeword. It just doesn’t involve as many whips and dog collars.

You know what what I want more of in sickfics? Angst. All the angst.

I want plot with traumatised characters who have to learnt how to cared for.

I want love stories where they fall for each other when one of them is sick and the other cares for them in a way they’ve never been before.

I want teammates stuck together and having to care for their ailing captain.

I want the sick miserable CEO being cared for by the only employee who’ll put up with them.

I want the exes forced together when one of them is sick and there’s still feelings underneath.

I want it all.

I think more characters should get really really sick while grieving

It was my birthday this week! Officially 28 years of age.

“Are you sure you didn’t have a nightmare? You’re shaking.”

“I’m shivering; there’s a difference.”

“I don’t think that’s…wait, let me just - holy shit, where’s the thermometer? You’re burning up.”

One thing about the flu is that it worsens fast. I'm talking actual influenza, not the colloquial 'stomach flu' which has nothing to do with influenza. A character can go to bed almost perfectly fine and wake up a few hours later at hospital levels of bad. They can be dying before they even know what hit them.

I'm especially thinking of a whumpee coming home from a trip exhausted and kind of run down but their partner just chalking it up to travelling or maybe stress as they go to bed. Only, the next morning, Whumpee has a horrendous fever and they have such a bad cough their chest sounds like it's crunching as they cough.

Another thing i love: sneezes dissolving into coughing. Sneezing causing a desperate coughing fit. Coughing and sneezing interchangeably and at the end of it they're wheezing for breath and their voice is sooo raspy and miserable sounding and they can barely speak above a whisper and their chest is rattling and they're snuffling and sniffling and it looks like theu have to sneeze AGAIN and. And .AND...

Being able to hear someone getting sicker as the hours pass.

It was barely noticeable when they arrived, maybe a slight scratch to their throat every few sentences, but nothing anyone would catch onto. But as the time passes and conversations go on, their voice starts to weaken. It becomes gravelly, a few throat clears helping for the time being. Eventually it sounds like it hurts to talk, the low pitch occasionally cracking up an octave. By the end of the night, they’ve started coughing, their throat irritated with every breath forced through their vocal cords. If their voice is still audible, it holds a nasal quality that betrays any effort to hide their congestion.

Yoooooo characters who rush recovery. Passing out because they’re trying to run around the day after a high fever breaksssss 💖

Is there anything worse than running out of sickfics for your new favourite character?

weakening curses disguised as expensive gifts. rings that suck out the life force of the bearer. bracelets that seep a sickness into their veins. chains that drain magic out of the prisoner to use as a conduit. innocent looking runes that nullify healing. a brooch siphoning energy from the heart. swords that drink the wielder's blood as much as their foe's. knight whumpees faltering and stumbling, royals leaning on walls through surges of dizziness and illness and unstoppable fatigue, a servant's hands halt their collapse, struggling to stay awake...........

You guys i am so weak for shivering 

character A waking up character B by shivering and B feels A’s forehead and notes how A is burning up

A and B walking outside on a late November evening and B did not dress for the bitter wind. B proceeds to tell A that they are fine despite the shivering and chattering teeth 

A comes home late from work after getting caught in a storm. A quickly changes into dry clothes but is still shivering like mad. A crawls into bed where B is already sleeping and B wakes up at the chilled body being pressed against them

when you go into the sickfic tag and you see a fic titled “Sick” and you know its about to be basic as hell but youre thirsty and this will just have to do

Someone deciding to take a nap while sick with the hope of recharging, but then they wake up feeling so much worse.
