“Thanks, Ben.” Thera reached across the space between them to squeeze his arm, the movement raptly followed by the two baby ducks who were still awake, just in case the hand happened to contain some crusts or other tasty scraps. There wasn’t enough promise, however, for them to bother getting out of the nest.

Likewise, the puddle of kittens on the end of the bunk (said puddle growing larger at the same rate they were) might have twitched one ear, as they did whenever she happened to speak, but otherwise didn’t stir.

Thera sighed and sat back again, warm drink in her other hand. “I’m glad to be here as well.”
