Happy Xmas (War is Over) - John Lennon

COLO SOLO here.  No snark in my post today.  I will only mention that I think this song is probably one of the most beautiful pieces of music that I have ever had the fortune to listen to in my lifetime.  

We originally had the video from the official John Lennon youtube account posted here, with remastered audio (way to emphasize your vocals, Yoko).  However, I felt that the imagery in the video was much too somber for the tone of this blog, and have therefore swapped it with this unofficial video.  I do encourage those of you who are willing to experience the harshly real images of war to view that official video, if you are so inclined.

Oh, Kylie. As an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire I hardly expected such a Naughty song from you. What happened to playing Nice? Listen to this track once and I’m sure Santa won’t be the only one that can’t get you out of his head. Maybe COLO SOLO can borrow a helmet from Mr. Lensherr.

I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus - The Jackson 5 

COLO SOLO coming back to ya with the greatest holiday song about kids snitching on their parents' unscrupulous activities.  Nobody likes a tattletale, Michael.  

Although everybody fawns over MJ's exquisite vocals on this track, the real gem in this song is the unintelligible banter heard at the very end.  Why is Jermaine talking about his phonebooks?  Where did Tito acquire the lunch menu that he seems to be reading from?  What are the names of the other two brothers?  The world may never know.

The Christmas Song :: Catherine Feeny

(Full disclosure: the following commentary was added after the original video post.  Not naming any names, but apparently some people were super lazy this weekend.)

Sorry folks, but I have a terrible confession to make: I know nearly nothing about Catherine Feeny.  Besides this catchy holiday tune, I know that she also recorded a song called "People in the Hole", which I enjoyed for a few weeks back in 2009 and actually downloaded legally from a now defunct music service website.  I also know that she is a woman, and that she probably plays an acoustic guitar.  

Other than that?  NOTHING.  I'm not even going to lie to you and look her article up on Wikipedia and pretend that I knew all these facts about her before this post.    Because I never lie on the internet.  

While we're on the subject of apologies, I'd also like to beg forgiveness for this being the FIFTH song (5th!) on this year's list from the Hotel Cafe Winter Songs album.  Apparently one of the DJ's among us (KAMCHAM) worships to this album on an altar every night.  This is the last song on the list from that album, guys.  I promise.

I'll Be Home For Christmas :: Kristin Chenoweth

(Full disclosure: the following commentary was posted after the original video post.  Also extremely cheesy, and melodramatic if you think me disingenuous.)

Hi internet!  It seems that KAMCHAM is too busy pretending to be Santa today, so I have the dubious honor of introducing the next song on our illustrious list.  

Kristin Chenoweth.  There are many words you can use to describe this woman.  Glinda.  Adorably short stature.  Liberal Christian.  F above High C.  Olive Snook.  Coloratura Soprano.  

I cannot claim to be a connoisseur of the musical theatre genre.  In fact, I cannot even claim to be a casual fan.  However, when I listen to Kristin sing this song (or any of her other songs, really), I close my eyes, and all that ignorance melts away.  Instead, two words float into my mind:

Extraordinarily amazing.  

Ladies and gentlemen, Kristin Chenoweth.  That is all.

This next number is from the King of Christmas Carols himself, the Bubalay Boxer. I once owned a bubble machine in my youth. I would spend countless hours staring at those rainbow stained spheres as they drifted toward the sun. My doctor suspects that what caused me to lose 78% of my vision by the age of nine. At least it was just my eyes; I can still listen to Bublé's voice. Wait. What just happened? MAJER ROK?

My Grown Up Christmas List - Kelly Clarkson

Let's all be adults here.  Sure, it can be fun to continue sending wishlists to Santa that are filled with dreams of kittens and Taylor Swift CD's.  But what should we really be asking for from the big guy?  Miss Hazel Eyes herself sets us straight with her spectacular rendition of this modern classic.  Kelly, our lives would suck without you.
