Based on the description on the Ashley Pittman website, the most expensive material in these earrings is brass. So can someone tel me why these things cost $475?

Recent Wins: Six more of my looks scoring 4.5 and up. I was fairly happy with all of these. I thought the "He's the One!" and the "Shades of Denim" entries were perhaps a bit boring, but I knew they worked for all intents and purposes. I really loved my "Final Touch" look, but wasn't sure voters would feel the same way. I'm glad they agreed! I was going for a ladylike look with an edge, and a lavender sheath dress by Terani Couture paired with smoky eyes, a French Connection biker jacket, and the chain detailing on one of my favorite Vince Camuto belts proved to be the perfect combination in my eyes. Bur what really pulled it all together for me was the "Tassel Charmer" bag by Foley + Corinna. A little sweet, a little rock & roll, and spot on in terms of the color palette. I want to say that "The Architect" challenge was tough, simply because it is very difficult to pair the JoJo necklace by Abby Carnevale with anything! It's an odd shape in that it sits right at the top of the cleavage, but unlike other necklaces if this length, it doesn't hang in a flattering teardrop shape. It's much wider. This gives it the tendency to clumsily run into lower necklines, with the middle half of it hitting skin and the ends becoming lost against fabric. If you have this piece in your Covet closet, you probably know what I'm talking about! Fortunately, it went quite well with this two tone Terani gown which I must have borrowed from someone since I kind of despise it.

Lose the Scarf! Sometimes a scarf can make an outfit, and sometimes it can break one. Some cases in point, moving left to right: 1. This look is layered enough--the addition of the scarf makes it look like this "Touring Tivoli Gardens" model is trying to wear everything in her wardrobe. I especially can't stand the necklace peeking out: choose one neck adornment and be done with it, I say! My guess is that the player was excited to match the scarf to the bag in this situation, but there's too much else going on here to even take notice of that. 2. The scarf may be silk, but there is simply too much fabric to make it delicate enough to work with the shimmery dress. This coveter should have opted for a lightweight necklace instead. 3. Looks like warm weather. So why wrap some grey crochet around your neck? My guess is it was an attempt to tie in the grey bag, but I can't even give out an A for effort in this case.

Latest Losers: My latest six looks scoring below 4.0. I was on a real losing streak for awhile as you can see by the fact that my Style Score was consistently hovering around 7.20 before it finally jumped back up to the high 7.40's. I don't really dislike any of these looks, but I certainly don't love any of them either (except for one, which I'll go into later). The fact that I wasn't using many in-season or unworn items definitely took its toll, but some of these entries scored too low for this to have even made a difference. Look at my "Rooftop Yoga" girl for example. People sure couldn't stand her! What was it, the shorts/leggings combo? The one loss I was surprised about was my "Tropical Affair" entry. I really felt the slightly disheveled hairstyle fit the "stranded on an island" backstory and that the "Petal Power" maxi dress by Nicole Miller was a perfect choice--formal resort wear with a tropical pattern. And yet, other coveters seemed to disagree. Such is the game!

Senior Prom Challenge: Big Blunders and Bad Bags I'm not sure why so many people showed up to the Senior Prom Challenge in leggings and cropped top combos by We Are Handsome, but it looked like a senior prank! There were some entries in this challenge that would have more than worked out if only the players had chosen the right bags! Bad bag choices are a common Covet affliction, and in the second pic above we have three prom attendees with clutches whose color combos are way too harsh for those soft pink dresses. Talk about sore thumbs. And then finally there were some folks who just made me shake my head. Bad bags, plus "swimwear cheats" (you know what I'm talking about) that were all too visible, plus bad hairstyles equal one big question mark.

Recent Wins: Trying to catch up on posting these without doing more than one in a row...and before you think I'm bragging, just know I'm not doing well right now at all. I'll have some losing looks to post very soon. I agree with coveters on the likability of my "Back to Basics" entry--I'm happy with the pastel color palette. The look is comfy, yet girly, with Dori Csengeri's pink and grey Rhapsody Earringd pairing perfectly with the Apologie's Love Paillete Serpent flats. My second-highest score belongs to my "Miss Peacock" look. This was a no-brainer, however, wth Jovani's jewel-toned, feathered gown being the absolute obvious choice here. The "Lady Apothecary" challenge was a tricky one--the look called through a Victorian bookish air, but still had to be fashionable, of course. Fortunately, voters agreed with my choice to tame rich burgundy and glamorous gold with a conservative, vintage-looking cape by MOYNA New York. My least favorite look of the bunch? Probably my boring black-and-white "Chess Master." I think I won points here by taking a casual, nerdy hipster model and giving her some sex kitten confidence by adding a strappy sandal and bright red lipstick. The Donna Mizani mini circle skirt skirt blended into this mix quite well via its easy shape, saucy hemline, and conservative color.

I think it's kind of creepy how the models on Rachel Zoe's website are all styled to look like her.

Dress of Choice: Mystery Lake Challenge: The obvious choice for evoking a woman emerging from a lake following a deadly car crash seems to be Rebecca Minkoff's "Chieftam Dress." The uneven hemline creates a tattered post accident look, while the white lace has the ability to be both elegant and ghostly. No wonder this is the garment most coveters chose to be their centerpiece for this challenge!

Liked Looks: I handed out "likes" to these ladies in black for the way inventive layering was used to create edgy, yet cohesive looks. 1. Coveter Tomboybarbiefashion wasn't afraid to use out-of-season accessories in her "Untamed Princess" look. She probably knew that by pulling the right pieces from the depths of her closet she would end up with a five-star entry. I love it when a swimwear is repurposed in an effective way during these more "outside the box" challenges--in this case, a Fall 2015 Blumoss one piece works well as a bodysuit, while a netted TT Beach coverup evokes chain mail. Vince Camuto riding boots and Camilla's "Chameleon Conch Belt" from Fall 2014 give off a tough equestrian air which is perfect for the mission, and Second Sleeve Gloves" from Chromat are perfect for tying it all together. 2. It was refreshing to see a such a liberal look among the typical posh entries at the "VIP Party at Millionaire's Mansion" Jet Set challenge. This look is by Twiggyrouge, who took a drop waist gown from Jovani from "mother of the bride" to "rockin' 'it' girl" by integrating glamorous, amped up accessories. Lionette by Noa Sade's modern and intricate "Nala" necklace and Vince Camuto's bejeweled silver sandals played off of the dress' coloring while also turning up the volume look's overall volume. The cheeky "Lucky Perspex with Led" Kotur clutch would normally have looked too rock n' roll next to this heavy gown, but a casual updo, bold red lips, and trendy Thomas Sabo ear studs make it seem right at home. 3. Laidbackfashion's "Fearsome Fighter" look stood out from the crowd for me. While most coveters threw together the typical futuristic tough girl entry by combining Chromat, leather, and leggings, Laidbackfashion took a more feminine gladiator approach by using a Halston Heritage hi lo skirt and strap-happy sandals by Vince Camuto. I also adored the way she took advantage of the glittery geometric pattern on Parker's "Hemlock Tank" to blend the top into a golden necklace by Laruicci and Chromat's Crane shoulders--the three separate items almost look like one beauteous piece of armor.

Recent Wins: This particular collection of my entries scoring 4.5 and above has been sitting around for so long that I can't even remember the story behind their challenges. I do, however, recall being surprised by how high my "Uncaged" look was rated. Of course, it had quite a bit of unworn and in-season points helping it out. Folks seemed to be into my "Queen Nefertiti." I have to say, I quite liked this one as well!

The Worst of Maslavi Winter 2015: It's time for Part Two of my Maslavi Winter 2015 critique. In my last post, I shared my favorite Maslavi dresses of the season. This time, I'm sharing the ones I wilder be caught dead in. As I said before, Maslavi's Winter 2015 collection was hit or miss for me. And to an extreme extent--the hits were almost out of the park, while the misses were pretty much disasters. A 1990's Sporty Spice vibe was in full effect when it came to about half of Maslavi's pieces on Covet, and I just cannot see the appeal. My least favorite MASLAVI pieces of Winter 2015 are as follows: 1. This rumpled, racer back "color striped dress" definitely resembles sportswear more than formalwear. It's almost as if someone took a sports bra and just stretched it out until it fell right above the knee. Then there's the blasé blue, black, and white color combination: this definitely doesn't do anything to help spice things up. 2. Then there's the "long stud waist dress," which to me, is just plain scary. There's certainly nothing exciting about the conservative black frock with its high neckline and long sleeves. I guess a thick stuffed waistline was meant to fix that, but the effect calls to mind something along the lines of a mid-90's Hot Topic clearance sale. 3. What I hate about the keyhole wrap dress, beside the fact that it utilizes the now-tired blue/black color combo, is that hanging piece of fabric. You know whatci'm talking about. It's as if this wrap dress just stopped wrapping. I wonder, what is the point of that scrap? I want to take a pair of scissors and shear it off, pronto. 4. And finally we have another sports bra combo, this time in a boring, ill-fitting, all-white ensemble. When clothes look wrinkled on Covet, you know they must be bad in real life. Sure enough, when I checked out this dress on Jovani's website, it looked like someone had pulled it from the bottom of a box full of bleach and just wrung it out with their hands. The slit and sheer panels don't help make this thing sexy. They only help to make it strange, as sultry detailing doesn't really mesh with insane asylum gym uniforms.

The Best of Maslavi Winter 2015:
This is Part One of a two-part post on what I felt were the best and worst of Jovani’s Winter 2015 Maslavi pieces featured on Covet.
Maslavi, a subset of Jovani Fashion, the viable ruler of the prom and pageant fashion scene, was hit or miss for me this past season. An assemblage of stripes, cropped tops, cutouts, and crisp silhouettes, some designs were detailed and innovative while still maintaining an essence of time-honored sophistication. Others felt like mid-90’s sportswear recycled into cheaply made gowns.
My favorite Maslavi pieces of Winter 2015 are as follows:
1. This black tea length dress is something both Audrey Hepburn and Lady Gags could love. its classic swinging shape and rich black fabric boasts a nice surprise via the well-placed peekaboo paneling. 2. I’m fond of this blue watercolor dress; the artistic effect and the peaceful shades combined with a structured 1950’s shape produce a frock that’s ethereal, but also sophisticated, with the help of a square neckline and below-the-knee-hem that keep things from seeming too sweet. 3. I’m sure I’ve mentioned more than once that I’m a sucker for color and patterns, so it’s no surprise that I fell for this floral kaleidoscope print dress. A high neckline and dark color blocking make this piece work for the office as well as a big night 4. In a previous post I noted my love for this white gown with its unique geometric cutouts. It’s architectural and sexy, but thanks to the color choice of either white or black and the sleek mermaid silhouette, it’s balanced by a sense of simplicity.
In my next post, I’ll share the bummers.

All Kinds of Wrong: Why tuck a cropped top into anything? Why pair a casual graphic tee with a slinky snake print skirt? Why would you think throwing a metallic bag into this crazy mix would do anything other than confuse things? And then why, oh why top the ensemble with a fuzzy shrug??? Couldn't help but share this one. What. Were. They. Thinking.

Latest Losers: Here they are again, my latest looks scoring below a 4.0. Now, I realize my "Winter's Dance" look is silly/horrific, but I didn't think the others were so bad! Not great by any means, but not terrible. I can pinpoint icky aspects of all of them...except for the "Silver Anniversary" look. Where did I go wrong here? Don't be afraid to let me know! I can dish it out AND take it! ;)
