A plane passed overhead, dropping aid
My children saw it with their little eyes full of hope and began to shout,
"Drop it here! Please, drop it for us!"
They asked me, "Mama, why didn’t it answer us? Why didn’t it drop anything for us?"
And I had no words I, too, had hoped we might receive something anything.
But the plane dropped its supplies far away, in places we can’t reach without risking our lives.
All my children wanted was a bit of food.

I hate self-insert protags, because I can't see myself being them, so I decided that Frisk will be a stand-in for me

enraptured by this Reddit sub called Somnigastronomy where people post about weird food they’ve seen in their dreams (and sometimes try to replicate for real)

weird how quick fascists went from “the world is overpopulated. close your legs. stop having kids.” to “pop out 3 babies right now. you have no choice. you have to. it’s your duty and your only purpose.” when they realized they might not have enough vulnerable individuals to exploit in the labor force if the birth rate continues declining

genuine question — how is donating money going to help Palestinians if no food is going in? What is the money for?
Medicine, water, supplies, food, fuel (much of it black market being upsold at egregious prices) — these all cost money and pretty much all Palestinians in Gaza have no source of income now. It’s drops in the bucket compared to ending the siege and occupation but it’s one way to do at least something small to help. Others are in need of money to evacuate when the border opens again (which hopefully is asap…), tuition and supplies for school to continue studies despite it all. Another fund is focused on trying to rebuild farmlands in Gaza to get food again that way.
I can’t tell anyone what to do with their money but I don’t think this mindset of “well nothings going in so we can’t help” is helpful for people on the ground who are the ones saying that donations can and do help them survive.

Malk's Thoughts Today:
Malk woke up to the sound of quiet in the house. The kind of quiet that’s too thick, like the air is holding its breath. The hunger in her stomach is familiar by now constant, gnawing. She doesn’t know what it’s like to not feel hungry. But sometimes, she wonders if that’s just life now. Maybe the hunger is the thing that keeps her going, a reminder that she’s still alive, still trying.
Her father spends most of the day outside, walking the same streets over and over. She’s not sure what he’s looking for anymore. Food? A chance? A way out? Her mother doesn’t talk much anymore either. There’s nothing to say that hasn’t already been said. The kids, the youngest ones they don’t understand why they’re so tired, or why the world feels like it’s closing in on them. But they know enough to stay close, to sit together and try to share the little they have.
Malk thinks about the days before all this, before the world changed. There were mornings when she didn’t have to think about where the next meal was coming from, where the hunger wouldn’t wake her up in the middle of the night, begging for something she can’t have. But now? Now, it’s different. It’s always different.
She watches her family, and they’re all trying so hard to keep their spirits up, to act like it’s going to be okay. But Malk knows better than anyone. Hope isn’t enough when there’s nothing to hold onto. The hunger isn’t just in her belly. It’s in the spaces between them, in the words they don’t say, in the quiet that fills every room.
She doesn’t know if it’ll get better. She doesn’t know if they’ll ever find enough to eat again. But there’s still something in her that refuses to give up. Maybe it’s the thought that tomorrow could be different. Or maybe it’s just the simple truth that they have no other choice but to keep going.

I don’t have the words anymore. I don’t know how to talk about what’s happening in Gaza anymore. It’s beyond horrific. It’s relentless evil and suffering. We are witnessing a holocaust. But if we’re witnessing it, Gazans are experiencing it.

horror movies are so much scarier when the actors look like an average sampling of the human population. and the house is a little messy
