Child prodigy of a Cyberstani traitor and a [Super] Japanese tech magnate, Nate turned her back on a life of luxury and privilege when her AI project "FERIT" uncovered what her mother had done to secure her own position, and now lives and works aboard the Automaton/Cyborg warship Adjudicator.

And I thought CHASE'S ref took an unreasonable amount of time… Decided to just settle for a "mostly perfect" ref instead of driving myself up the wall lmao
Karina Morozova, aka Hyena. Born and bred Cyberstani, former tunnel rat, Scourge of Novaya Sibir & Kodiak-level Mama Bear.

Something I try to keep in mind when making art that looks vintage is keeping a limited color pallette. Digital art gives you a very wide, Crisp scope of colors, whereas traditional art-- especially older traditional art-- had a very limited and sometimes dulled use of color.
This is a modern riso ink swatch, but still you find a similar and limited selection of colors to mix with. (Mixing digitally as to emulate the layering of ink riso would be coloring on Multiply, and layering on top of eachother 👉)
Tumblr media
If you find some old prints, take a closer look and see if you can tell what colors they used and which ones they layered... a lot of the time you'll find yellow as a base!
Tumblr media
Misprints can really reveal what colors were used and where, I love misprints...
Something else I keep in the back of my mind is: how the human eye perceives color on paper vs. a screen. Ink and paint soaks into paper, it bleeds, stains, fades over time, smears, ect... the history of a piece can show in physical wear. What kind of history do you want to emulate? Misprinted? Stained? Kept as clean as possible, but unable to escape the bluing damages of the sun? It's one of my favorite things about making vintage art. Making it imperfect!
Tumblr media
You can see the bleed, the wobble of the lines on the rug, the fading, the dirt... beautiful!!
Thinking in terms of traditional-method art while drawing digital can help open avenues to achieving that genuine, vintage look!

Just to make a point, every time I finished a panel of this I would export it as a PNG on the perceptual setting and use it as a color reference for the next panel
IT'S BAD
PLEASE CHECK YOUR COLOR SETTINGS
EDIT: If you're still having problems, it might help to switch from "Save/Save as" to "Export (as a) Single Layer". Just. Make SURE the box labeled "Expression Color" is set to RGB. I've been messing with this all day, and it looks like this combination of settings will allow exported PNGs to maintain their colors perfectly. To you. So far both Discord and Toyhouse still only display desaturated images and I cannot for the life of me figure out why

"I'm a good dog..."
Chase is a Good Dog. She's a good dog almost to the point of self-destructiveness - a beaten dog who doesn't understand why her master doesn't love her anymore, after she's been nothing but Good And Loyal her entire life, but she'll fawn and appease and beg for affection because they're all she's ever known and she loves them despite the cruelty. She's as ill-suited to being a Helldiver as a lurcher is to being a wolf-hunter but that's the job her master gave her and that's the job she's going to faithfully do until it kills her.
And why a lurcher? Lurchers are known for their intelligence, ability to blend in, and obedience. They are very smart, highly trainable, and all-around Good Dogs.
They're also known as poacher's dogs - and what is Super Earth if not a poacher on a galactic scale.

I have to draw a lot of gold and metal for my work, but wasn't happy with any of the metal tutorials i could find around. I prefer really specific instruction, so after some research i put together what i think works as a generalist's guide/tutorial. Not perfectly accurate, but i hope it's helpful!

Can you do a tutorial on drawing knight armor? Both for male and female bodies, please.
for learning to draw armor i’d use a similar approach to the one i used for drawing swords!
again, there are two main things i’d suggest focusing on:-studying the different parts of an armor and how they workand-visualizing the armor as 3d shapes
i found some sites that go over things like armor parts and their functions here and here, a lot of nice photo reference here, and a bunch of labelled diagrams on google images
i couldn’t find any clear image reference for how medieval armor is layered but you can see that in this video of a guy getting armor put on
basically though i think its a bit like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
there is a lot of liberty you can take with the details, shapes, and proportions etc, (also remember, medieval europe isn’t the only era armor comes from!) so you can use that to communicate things like the time period and culture the armor is from, the personality of its wearer, etc.
Tumblr media
with simplifying armor into 3d shapes i’d basically just use a regular human body as a base. having a decent grasp of anatomy really helps with this i think
Tumblr media
there is technically little or no difference between actual male/female armor, from the way i understand things at least (armor is just armor after all), but you can take a look at this post of mine for strategies you can use to make armor look more masculine or feminine
Tumblr media
and then of course there’s that boob plate thingthere are reasons why those don’t really work in real life but you could always pull out the artistic liberty card so

Got sketchy with the Helldivers ladies tonight.
(Or, well... 80% of them. Poor Chase is still out in the weeds :'))
- Hyena designs and builds her own prosthetics(she's working on incorporating saws into her combat set because she saw the Berserkers and thought, Yes.) - Jeanette is the only Helldiver of the bunch - Z was blacklisted from being a Helldiver - Nate is the most dangerous one out of the whole lot

"This rage is older now than Yeva ever was, and you will taste every. Last. Drop."
Some good old-fashioned Cyberstani-on-Helldiver violence. Revenge is a dish best served ice-cold~
