Pu Shu - The Ordinary Road (朴树 - 平凡之路)
Pu Shu is a very special C-pop star from Mainland China. He is quite famous while quite low key. Pu never likes pop shows and most of the time just stayed in some house in Beijing writing his music. Pu didn’t release many albums but every of them is considered masterpiece, especially in Mainland China.
This is song Pu Shu wrote for a movie which was directed by Han Han - a famous young writer and car racer.
Like the song told us, ultimately, ordinary is the final answer. Peace and Love!

Wang Leehom - All The Things You Never Knew (王力宏 - 你不知道的事)
One of my favorite songs by Wang Leehom, who is a famous handsome guy in the C-pop scene since around 2000. Leehom is an American singer-songwriter. He was trained in the famous Berklee College of Music.
This is also the theme song of the movie Love in Disguise, which starred Liu Yifei, who famously performed the role Mulan in the Hollywood movie. The movie talked about a story that a pop star pretended to be some ordinary student and attended a music school, and fell in love with the girl performed by Liu Yifei.

David Tao - Regular Friends (陶喆 - 普通朋友)
Tao is another very popular C-pop artist in the 2000s. He wrote and produced quite some good C-pop R&B, like a peer artist sharing the pop stage with Jay Chou in those years. This song is covered a lot by younger idols on the stage, famously a popular Super Girl Zhou Bichang covered many of Tao’s songs including this one.
This song expresses the idea that I don’t just wanna be your ordinary friend versus some more special relationship.

Jay Chou - Sunny Day (周杰倫 - 晴天)
This is from Jay Chou’s 2003 album Ye Hui Mei, which is named after this mother. Until today, it’s still one of my favorite C-pop albums. This song is so lovely that you just cannot stop listening to it if you happen to be a teenager during that time as well.
出自2003年發行的專輯《葉惠美》。一代人的青春情歌。

Omnipotent Youth Society - Kill That Shijiazhuang Guy (萬能青年旅店 - 殺死那個石家莊人)
From the name you can easily tell this is not your usual C-pop band. This band is from Hebei, Mainland China. It’s like an indie band that’s quite different from other mainstream pop bands in China. They released this album in 2010, all the songs were beautifully written (tones & lyrics) and very well recorded. Today it’s very different to get the original CD which costs a lot of money in secondary market.
This song’s lyrics is very interesting. It’s kind of talking about a regular Chinese workman who followed the orders and went to a steady job every day and simply enjoyed his ordinary life. But suddenly everything changed and he got no jobs and couldn’t figure out what’s wrong and cannot catch up with the changes. This is a semi-fiction which is very true to a lot of Chinese people of the older generations. Shijiazhuang is a city in north China, probably also this band’s hometown (I didn’t verify).
But they have no follow-up after this debut album until 2020, when they finally put out another album called Inside the Cable Temple (冀西南林路行).
Actually I prefer to call this band Omnipotent Youth Hotel.

Jolin Tsai - Stars Again (蔡依林 - Stars Align) MV
A 2021 song by Jolin, who is now my favorite C-pop artist. Jolin re-invented herself so many times and she becomes the absolute queen of C-pop in recent years. Her recent MVs were also quite well recorded and you should check out them all.
