lydia is dangerous —    she knows all his deepest fears,    and she’s not afraid to use them against him    (  not that he hasn’t done the same to her  ).    it’s complicated,    because on paper,   they should work.    they’re kindred spirits,    they have the same pains,    their fears and goals mostly align,     but they’re also both petty.    they have thin skin,    and they aren’t afraid to lash out at the first sign of abrasion.    she’s one of his greatest weaknesses in more ways than one:    she’s not afraid to hurt him,    but at the same time,    she’s not afraid to love him.   because beneath all the warfare,    she’s his first love and he’s her’s.

jackson does genuinely enjoy lacrosse —    while many assume it’s just a means of asserting himself as someone with a great deal of physical control and prowess    (  which,   to be fair,    it is in part  ),   for the most part,   he plays because he enjoys it,    and it’s barely as linked to the physical component as people would think.   jackson likes lacrosse because he likes the focus that comes with it:    the physical control he exhibits is a plus,    but the real gift to him is the mental control it allows him to practice.    jackson is someone who always feels like he could be doing something more with his time,    another something to help him feel accomplished,    and wanted,    but with lacrosse,    he’s able to tune that all out.    he can run drills for hours without his mind wondering,    and for that,   he’s always been grateful.
