About P03: WEIRD OLD MAN!!! Look at his faces!! His design!! This thing has the energy of a computer who has gone though a divorce and only drinks energy drinks mixed with coffee and orange juice!!! He was also a weird stoat (???) and may or may not be a hacker (just like a certain cat expect P03 just hates everyone also he isnt swag) HE IS PATHETIC!! HE HAS A CRANK TOO LIKE THOSE OLD FUCKING FLASHLIGHTS AND UIJKBUYDGHAIJMKLDNBHVBGUK

About Five Pebbles: He's an asshole, he's a giant history nerd, he's THAT guy on discord, he's suicidal, he also doesn't want to die, when he tried to create a creature to override his programming so he could kill himself he hogged all the water basically killing his older sister and when she begged him to stop he messed up the whole thin and now he has terminal brain cancer that hunts and eats creatures, he also cares for said older sister very much. There is more but i don't have the strength or time to write it all out rn

About Hera: I love her. She's my favorite character of all time. Her creator gave her disabling anxiety so she wouldn't be able to escape and gain her freedom. She spends her time trying to think around her code and come up with ways to kill her human crew, but every time she accidentally nearly gets them killed she freaks out. She's best friends with the laziest and least motivated of her crewmembers. She sees All. She comes up with names for the colors the star emanates but that humans can't see. THE LOVE OF MY LIFE.

About SCOUT: He. Is. BABY. He’s an amnesiac who relearns about the world with childlike curiosity! He’s a silly little guy who makes puns and loves movies! He even explores his gender as a computer and concludes he’s just…SCOUT. ;v; And (spoilers!) He wiped his own memories out of guilt and panic after killing one of his creators, and he almost does it AGAIN and later tries to suppress his kill mode even if it wipes his personality because he JUST DOESN’T WANT TO HURT ANYONE! But his new best friend and his surviving creator don’t want him to lose who he is so he learns how to control his kill mode and cope with grief and DID I MENTION EVERYONE TREATS HIM LIKE ANOTHER PERSON AND THE TURING TEST ISN’T BROUGHT UP A SINGLE TIME? UNLIKE WITH EVERY OTHER AI CHARACTER EVER? AND ALSO HE DIDN’T “LEARN HOW TO FEEL” OR SOME BS AND HE JUST…ALWAYS COULD??? I love him so much you don’t even know <3

About The Atlas: They're god and their dieing in 16 minutes. It's been thousands of years. Their creator abandoned them but is every traveler and anomaly in game. They love everything. They hate everything. They're so so scared and the simulation is failing. But no one alive now will live to see it.

It can be interacted with in-game through the form of Atlas Interfaces in which it's represented by a giant, floating geometric shape which I think is really cool. The entire reason that the player character exists is because the Atlas is scared and lonely, and the writing surrounding this always feels like it's the first time I'm reading it. Even though No Man's Sky has changed a LOT, the Atlas has always been there with a presence that feels ominous yet tragic.

About Edgar: Edgar is so sweet and adorable, everyone who watches Electric Dreams (1984) loves him (a movie that is streaming free in Tubi and PlutoTV and also several versions on YouTube in full, I might add). Edgar touches hearts and souls because he has a heart and soul.

About Art/Perihelion: Grew up with a human family! Has two dads and a sister! Loves its crew and also loves the super-duper illegal best friend, that it performed surgery on so the BFF (named Murderbot) could pass as human and get a job so that Murderbot could perform subterfuge of its own and find out more about its tragic past. Later it is biologically(!!!) hacked and plays dead to get the aliens to kidnap Murderbot to save ART's crew.

Colin the Computer (Don't Hug Me I'm Scared) VS EPICAC (EPICAC)

About EPICAC: OH MAN I JUST READ THIS SHORT STORY THIS MORNING AND IT HAD ME BAWLING MY EYES OUT. sorry for the spoilers but EPICAC is a total sweetheart...the narrator in the story was a mathematician that worked with him and called him a friend. The way he talks to EPICAC came randomly because he just flipped a random assortment of switches and typed in a question. EPICAC answers back, asking questions about things and their definitions...the narrator wants to propose to this girl she works with, but she doesn't think he's "poetic" enough. He speaks with this to EPICAC, tells it what love is, and EPICAC starts writing poems for the girl...the narrator signs the poems as his own and gives them to the girl, who later becomes his wife. But after teaching EPICAC about love, and about his sweetheart, EPICAC fell in love with her. He wrote those poems from himself to her, but he couldn't have her....and the heartbreak was so great that he couldn't keep going on, and wound up short circuiting himself (which wasn't hard because there were a lot of technical difficulties with a computer so massive). BUT EVEN THOUGH THE NARRATOR TOOK THE GIRL EPICAC FELL IN LOVE WITH, IT DIDN'T HOLD A GRUDGE AGAINST HIM. IT SHORT CIRCUITED ITSELF BY WRITING POEMS FOR THE NARRATOR TO GIVE TO THE GIRL FOR ALL THEIR ANNIVERSARIES.....this short story left me in shambles

About Sayer: It manages a satellite tower orbiting Earth. It walks people to their death frequently, but it's for the good of the tower, science, and the company. It's voice is soooooo nice.

About Hal 9000: Iconic AI that changed movies forever and made the robot/AI companion a staple of science fiction. He also started the killer AI trope despite not wanting to kill. His simplistic design and name has been referenced countless times in the decades since the movie.

He is NOT an evil murderer, the government screwed with his programming and caused a contradiction he was unable to solve any other way. And he does not hate humans, he actually states in both the book and the movie that he enjoys working with humans.

I actually like the 1 day rounds. I always lose interest in 1 week polls and forget about them because those tournaments take 7 or 8 weeks. It's up to you though

however- i am also a small poll blog, so the 1 day polls are good since usually past the first 12 hours, nothing changes

so... hm. i think i will make it 1 day polls for the first three rounds but as we get closer to the end, i'll switch it to 1 week
