Allman Brothers w/ Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, and Oteil Burbridge

{The Sky Is Crying}

As much as I love OG Allman Bros, I have a very soft spot in my heart for Derek Trucks. Derek adds such flavor to their sound, implementing his unique slide guitar playing into the southern rock jams. He doesn't just play a solo here, Derek absolutely SHINES.

Such a great rendition of the SRV piece, and what a wonderful monument to remember him by.

{Bathtub Gin}

There's no need for introductions with this bad boy cause everyone and their mother in the Phish community know about this behemoth. Possibly one of the bands best improvisational moments, the Went Gin stands high on my ranking of best Ph jams. There are no words to describe the feelings that this piece is capable to digging out of you. This one just hits home for me. Theres nothing that could match that energy. This jam is a perfect example of Phish's improvisational capabilities, deep creativity, and musical connection. 10/10

{Harry Hood}

Ranking in my top 5 favorite Hoods, this gem is a beautifully constructed example of these guy's ability to produce magic through sound. This jam is the closest representation to what happiness would sound like, if that happiness were entangled in a mass of energy and well-being.

Also, I do love the improvisation being used in the intro, stretching the pre-vocal section into around 4 minutes. Its not very common that they experiment this much with the Hood intro.

Overall, this performance is well done, and with much emotional energy.

Pull up this jam, turn it up, tune in, sit back and feel good.

Medeski, Martin, and Wood w/ John Scofield

(A Go Go)

MMW is essential jazz-funk to me, and when Scofield gets in the mix, things tend to get real funky. The thing that im drawn to the most with these guys is their way of maintaining a smooth, funk foundation while elaborating all of the music with complex jazz scales, chords, techniques, ect.

This performance is 100℅ Grade A Grass-Fed FIRE. Scofields guitar tone is to die for, especially with how bold its coming through his amps on this performance. John Medeski, as always, plays those keys like they're going out of style.

All around solid playing.

{Tweezer}

This jam is an aggressive, heated powerhouse of machine gun shred-y goodness. In MY opinion, there are few Ph jams that elevate to this level of anger and drive. Just when you think that they're peaking, Fishman comes out swinging, pounding the life outta those drums and bringing the band to multiple other peaks, all rising to one huge, monstrous, peak of intensity.

This jam is basically Coke for ur ears. Its a heater.

Soule Monde

The funk is strong with this one... Dangerously strong. I mean, this funk is so goddamn filthy, it made Howie Mandel shit his pants.

Members of the Trey Anastasio Band, Russ and Ray know how to pick that shit up and throw it down, hard. These guys can seriously play.

Soule Monde brings modern day jazz-funk to a new plane. Between the tight percussive beats and the maniacal organ playing, these guys are something to be heard. If you haven't listened to them before, do yourself a favor and watch this.

Jerry Garcia Band

{After Midnight > Eleanor Rigby > After Midnight}

The only thing that could possibly make Jerry playing After Midnight any cooler is sticking Eleanor Rigby in the middle of it. This performance of AM is absolutely smokin' and Jerry is obviously zoned into the right wavelength, because his playing is A1 in this rendition. Eleanor Rigby is played with much grace and emotion, and the transition into it is also beautifully maneuvered. I don't think there's a single Midnight>Rigby>Midnight that I don't enjoy, but this one has always stood out to me as a really well rounded performance.

{Cities}

Standing as one of my top 5 fav Cities', this performance in Amsterdam '97 is a straight up funk fest full of all that type 2 goodness. What seems so make this jam so funky is the fact that they broke it down and played at probably a steady 40 BPM, which is really slow for this song. Regardless, the whole intro jam and song are on point, and the post-song jam is wild. Towards the end of the song comes the "wormtown jam", consisting of a plethora of the sucking sounds of a tear in the fabric of time, almost like a black hole.

This one will always throw down, no matter when or where.

{Stash > Manteca > Stash > Dog Faced Boy > Stash}

This performance is a Ph essential. The playing is so tight and under control throughout this whole jam. The Stash jamming stays (for the most part) in type 1 territory, but stays sharp as a blade. Needless to say, that Manteca is absolute fire. Great rendition of DFB too, but that Manteca just can't be beat. Overall this is one of my personal top 3 Stash's.

Grateful Dead

{Dark Star > Wharf Rat > Dark Star}

This particular Dark Star is of something beyond us. Also known as the "beautiful jam", the second half of Dark Star is a serious force to be reckoned with. So much torn emotion all coming together and flaring into sound. I love the torn and devastated, yet romantic melody that Jerry carries with him through that jam.

This is def a top dark star IMO.
