With a bone-jarring thud, Akira hit the floor. He struggled to rise, but the cold metal of Kaida’s bat held him down, pressing firmly against his chest. A low groan escaped his lips as he stared up at her. Leaning in closer, Kaida squatted to meet his gaze, a triumphant grin spreading across her face.

“You’re not fun to fight at all,” she cooed, “I was hoping for a real challenge, y’know? Thank god this ain’t an RPG, you’d be the perfect amount of EXP.”

With a cough, Akira asked, “What…the hell…is EXP?”

“Ha!” Kaida pushed her bat against his chest, and blood spat out of his mouth. 

“You’re a riot, Kiryu, a real fuckin’ riot. This is why I don’t like pretty boys; got a lot going on with the face but not so much with the brain, yeah?”

Akira coughed.

“Okay, fun’s over.”

With a quick grunt, Kaida sprang to her feet, swinging her bat over her shoulder. She extended a hand to Akira. He looked up at her with dull eyes and dried blood on his lips. He reached for her hand, pulling himself up and finding his footing once more. He held his side and coughed a bit more.

“You’re not bad, kid. You still got a ways to go, though.” chuckled Kasuga.

“Kid? You’re—” Akira coughed up more small splatters of blood. “—The same age as me.”

“But between you and me; only one of us really fights like a man and it ain’t you, kid.”

She turned heel and walked away, humming to herself.

“Kasuga,” he called out, and she stopped to turn around.

He squinted at her. “Where have I…heard that name before?”

Something lit up behind Kaida’s eyes, she gave him a crooked smirk and a scoff.

“You’re kidding, right?” She asked. “Like, you ain’t funny but, you gotta be joking.”

“Do I look like I’m kidding around? I swear, Kasuga is…so familiar to me.”

“See, the thing about you pretty boys…y’all never pick up a book or anything.” She turned around once more and walked away.

“Hero of Yokohama!” she told him, “Look ‘im up sometime, pretty boy! Get your head full of something other than fists!”

Also Jiji singing the OG Ranma 1/2 opening in the most recent episode killed me. I’m so glad they made the reference!

You know I had my doubts on if getting Aleks Le to play Jiji in DandaDan was overkill but season 2 so far has really shown that no one else could have played Jiji. The range Aleks Le is able to put into one character is insane.

If you haven’t yet, go watch the Enlgish dub of DandaDan. Even if you’re usually a subs only watcher, the dub is so fucking worth it. Every VA knocks it out of the park
